Still waiting for NY unemployment payment this week - is anyone else's delayed?

It's been a week since I certified for my NY unemployment benefits and the payment still hasn't hit my account. Usually I get paid on Tuesday but here we are on Friday and nothing! My account just says 'payment pending' with no explanation. Is anyone else experiencing delays with their payments this week? I've got bills coming due and I'm getting worried. Has the NYSDOL said anything about payment processing issues?

There's actually a delay affecting quite a few people right now. The NYSDOL had a system update last weekend and it's causing payment processing delays. They posted about it on their Twitter yesterday saying payments should resume by Monday. I'd give it until then before getting too concerned.

Thank you! I didn't think to check their Twitter. That's a relief to hear it's a known issue.

mine is late too havent got paid in 2 weeks now

2 weeks?! That's way worse than my situation. Have you tried calling them?

I'm in the same boat - certified Sunday, usually paid Tuesday, still nothing. Called the automated system and it says my payment was "processed" but nothing in my account. Really frustrating because I have rent due today and now I'll probably get hit with late fees. Why don't they ever notify us about these delays?!

they never tell us anything until its too late

If it's been more than 3 business days since your claim was processed, you really should try to speak with an agent directly. The automated system won't be able to tell you if there's a specific issue with your individual claim versus the system-wide delay others mentioned. I was having the same problem last month and it turned out there was a quarterly review flag on my account that needed to be manually cleared.

Thanks for the tip! Do you know what hours they're actually answering phones? I tried calling yesterday but couldn't get through.

I used Claimyr.com last month when my payments suddenly stopped and I couldn't get through on the phones. They got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The agent found a flag on my account that was holding up my payments, fixed it right away, and my money came through the next day. Totally worth it instead of stressing for weeks.

does that actually work?? ive been trying to get thru for days

Yeah it really did work for me - was honestly surprised since nothing else was working. The agent told me they were getting thousands of calls a day about the delay issue.

JUST A HEADS UP EVERYONE - they always do this!!! Every single time they do a "system update" payments get delayed but they never announce it until AFTER people start complaining! I've been on UI since February and this is the THIRD TIME this has happened. The first time it was 3 days late, second time 5 days late. They always blame it on "technical issues" but never apologize for the late fees WE have to pay when our bills aren't paid on time!!! Anyone else notice this pattern???

That's really frustrating to hear. I guess I should start keeping an emergency buffer for these situations.

My sister-in-law works for NYSDOL (not in unemployment though) and she mentioned they were migrating some payment systems to a new platform over the weekend. Apparently they didn't realize it would cause such a big delay. She said they're prioritizing people who haven't been paid in more than a week first.

That's actually helpful info, thanks for sharing! I wish they'd communicate this stuff officially instead of us having to piece together info from random sources.

Just to update everyone - my payment finally came through this morning (Saturday). Seems like they're working through the backlog. Hope everyone else sees theirs soon!

I'm new to this community and just started receiving NY unemployment benefits this month. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been really helpful - I had no idea these payment delays were a recurring issue with system updates. For those who got their payments this weekend, how long was the total delay from your usual payment day? I'm trying to figure out if I should plan for this kind of thing in the future. Thanks for sharing all this information!

Welcome to the community! From what I've seen in this thread, it looks like most people experienced about a 3-5 day delay from their usual payment day. Some got theirs on Saturday instead of the usual Tuesday, so roughly 4 days late. It's definitely worth keeping a small buffer if possible since this seems to happen fairly regularly with their system updates. The frustrating part is they don't always announce these delays ahead of time, so you kind of have to piece together what's happening from community discussions like this one.

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm also dealing with the same delay - certified on Sunday and still waiting for my payment. It's reassuring to see from the updates that payments are starting to come through this weekend. I'm relatively new to unemployment benefits and wasn't aware these system update delays were so common. Going forward, I'll definitely try to keep a small emergency buffer for situations like this. Has anyone found the best way to stay informed about these technical issues when they happen? It seems like most of the useful information comes from community discussions rather than official announcements.

Welcome to the community! From what I've experienced, following their Twitter account seems to be the most reliable way to get updates, though even that's hit or miss. Some people also mentioned checking this community regularly since members often share info faster than official channels. @Hunter Hampton @CyberSiren it might be worth bookmarking this community and checking it whenever you notice a payment delay - the collective knowledge here has been super helpful for figuring out what s'actually going on!

I'm also new to NY unemployment and experiencing my first payment delay - certified last Sunday and still waiting. This thread has been incredibly informative! I had no idea these system update delays were so common. Reading through everyone's experiences, it sounds like keeping a 5-7 day buffer for future "system updates" would be wise. Really appreciate everyone sharing their updates and resources like the Claimyr service and Twitter monitoring tips. Hopefully my payment comes through soon like others have reported this weekend. Thanks for creating such a supportive community where we can actually get real information about what's happening!

Welcome to the community @Victoria Stark! I'm also pretty new here and just went through my first payment delay experience. It's actually kind of comforting to know this is a known issue rather than something wrong with my specific claim. From what I've gathered reading through this thread, it seems like the 5-7 day buffer you mentioned is probably a good rule of thumb. I'm definitely going to start following their Twitter account like others suggested, and bookmarking this community since everyone here seems to share information way faster than official channels. Hope your payment comes through soon - sounds like they're working through the backlog this weekend!

Just wanted to jump in as another newcomer who's been following this thread closely! I'm also dealing with my first payment delay after certifying Sunday - usually get paid Tuesday but still waiting. This whole discussion has been such a lifesaver for understanding what's actually happening. I had no idea these system update delays were a regular occurrence with NYSDOL. Really grateful for everyone sharing their experiences and tips, especially about following their Twitter and keeping an emergency buffer for future updates. It's frustrating that we have to rely on community knowledge rather than clear official communication, but at least we have this supportive group to figure things out together!
