NY unemployment released payment but nothing in my bank account after 5 days
I certified for my weekly NY unemployment benefits last Sunday and got the confirmation email that my payment was released on Monday. The portal shows 'payment released' status but it's been 5 days and still nothing in my bank account! I've NEVER had this happen before - usually the money shows up within 1-2 days max. I checked my direct deposit info in the system and everything is correct. I've tried calling the NYSDOL like 30 times but can't get through to a real person. Has anyone else experienced delays with their unemployment payments lately? I'm seriously stressing because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money.

Same thing happened to me last month. The NYSDOL systems are super backed up right now because they're updating something in their payment processing system. Mine eventually showed up after 7 days even though it said 'payment released' the whole time. Try not to panic yet!

•7 DAYS??? That's insane. Did they at least notify you about the delay or did you just have to sit there wondering what happened to your money? I can't believe they'd just leave people hanging like this.

The payment release date isn't always when the money actually transfers. There's been a known issue since the February 2025 system update where the payment status updates correctly but the actual ACH transfer gets delayed. If you check your payment history, does it show the actual deposit date or just the release date? Also, some banks hold these deposits for 24-48 hours after receiving them.

•It just shows 'payment released' with Monday's date. No deposit date listed. My bank has never held these deposits before - they usually show up the next day after NYSDOL releases them. This is so frustrating!

•It's true - there was an announcement about payment processing upgrades on the NYSDOL website last month, but they didn't mention it would cause delays. They really should have communicated this better to claimants.

•But that's the thing - mine have ALWAYS been consistent before, next day deposit after release. This sudden change with no explanation is what's concerning me.

After trying for DAYS to reach someone about a similar issue (payment showed released but never hit my account), I finally got through to a NYSDOL rep using Claimyr.com - it's a service that holds your spot in the phone queue and calls you when an agent is about to answer. Totally worth it for me because I found out there was a verification flag on my account that was holding up my payment, and they fixed it right away. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you want to see how it works. The agent told me they're experiencing delays due to a new fraud prevention system they implemented, which is why some payments are taking longer than usual.

•Thank you for this! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm desperate to talk to someone. Did they explain why some accounts get flagged and others don't? I haven't changed anything about my claim.

•The agent said it can be totally random - sometimes it's because your bank info matches someone else's partially, or because you certified from a different device or IP address than usual. They're being extra cautious with the new system. Definitely worth calling to check if you've been flagged.

For everyone in this thread - here's what's happening with NY unemployment payments right now: 1. NYSDOL implemented a new fraud detection system in February 2025 2. This system occasionally flags accounts for additional verification 3. When flagged, payments show as 'released' in the system but are actually held in a pending state 4. The system is backlogged with manual reviews 5. Most payments are being released within 5-7 business days without claimants needing to do anything If it's been more than 7 business days, you should definitely contact NYSDOL directly. Request a supervisor if the first representative can't help, as supervisors have override capabilities for these payment holds.

•This is 100% accurate. The agent I finally reached told me the exact same thing. They're overwhelmed with the new system implementation.

I had something similar happen but it turned out to be my bank's issue! They were holding the deposit for "verification" or something. Have you called your bank to check if they're holding it? Sometimes they do that and don't even notify you.

•I didn't think to call my bank! I just assumed it was NYSDOL since the money always came through smoothly before. I'll give them a call too, thanks for the suggestion.

Quick update for everyone - NYSDOL just posted an official notice about the payment delays on their Twitter account. They're acknowledging the issue and saying all pending payments should be processed by the end of next week. They're blaming it on the new fraud prevention system implementation.

•FINALLY some official acknowledgment! But end of next week?? That's potentially 12+ days after releasing payments. People have bills to pay! This is absolutely unacceptable.

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Filed last Sunday, got the "payment released" email Monday, and here we are on Friday with nothing in my account. This is my first time experiencing this kind of delay too - usually it's there by Tuesday at the latest. Reading through all your comments is actually making me feel a bit better knowing it's not just me and there's a legitimate system issue going on. I'm going to try calling my bank first like Andre suggested, then maybe look into that Claimyr service Carmen mentioned. It's just so frustrating that they implement these new systems without properly communicating the impact to claimants. We're already stressed enough dealing with unemployment!

•Paolo, you're definitely not alone in this! I'm in the same boat - certified Sunday, got the release confirmation Monday, and it's now Friday with nothing. It's so reassuring to see everyone sharing their experiences here. The bank suggestion is smart - I'm going to call mine too just to rule that out. And yeah, the lack of communication from NYSDOL about these system changes is really poor. They should have sent out notices warning people about potential delays BEFORE implementing the new fraud prevention system. At least now we know it's not something we did wrong!

Just wanted to jump in here as someone new to this community - I'm currently dealing with this exact same situation! Certified on Sunday, got the "payment released" email Monday morning, and it's now been 6 days with nothing hitting my account. This thread has been incredibly helpful because I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my claim or bank info. It's frustrating that NYSDOL didn't give us a heads up about these delays with their new fraud prevention system, but at least now I know it's a widespread issue and not just me. I'm going to try calling my bank tomorrow to make sure they're not holding anything on their end, and if that doesn't work out I might look into that Claimyr service. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know we're all in this together!

•Connor, welcome to the community! You're definitely in the right place - this thread has become like a support group for all of us dealing with this mess. It's crazy how many people are experiencing the exact same timeline (Sunday certification, Monday release email, still waiting). I'm on day 5 myself and was freaking out until I found this discussion. The fact that NYSDOL finally acknowledged it on Twitter gives me some hope, even though their "end of next week" timeline is pretty disappointing. Definitely call your bank first - that seems to be the quickest way to rule out any issues on their end. Keep us posted on what you find out!

I'm also experiencing this exact same issue! Filed my weekly certification on Sunday, got the "payment released" confirmation email Monday morning, and here I am on day 6 with absolutely nothing in my bank account. This is my first time dealing with this kind of delay - my payments have always been deposited within 1-2 days after the release notification. I was starting to worry that something was wrong with my claim or that I'd made an error somewhere. This thread has been a huge relief because now I know it's a widespread system issue and not just me! It's really frustrating that NYSDOL didn't warn claimants about potential delays when they rolled out their new fraud prevention system. We rely on these payments and need to plan our finances accordingly. I'm going to call my bank tomorrow to make sure they're not holding the deposit on their end, and then maybe try that Claimyr service if I need to reach NYSDOL directly. Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know we're all dealing with this together!

•Oliver, you've described my situation exactly! It's such a relief to find this thread and realize we're all going through the same thing. I was also panicking thinking I'd done something wrong with my certification or that there was an issue with my banking info. The timing is identical - Sunday certification, Monday release email, now day 6 with nothing. It's really unacceptable that NYSDOL didn't communicate these potential delays upfront, especially when so many people depend on these payments for basic expenses like rent and groceries. I'm planning to call my bank first thing tomorrow too, and it sounds like that Claimyr service might be worth trying if we need to actually speak with someone at NYSDOL. Thanks for sharing your experience - knowing we're all in this boat together definitely makes it less stressful!

I'm new to this community and dealing with the exact same situation! Certified on Sunday, got the "payment released" email on Monday, and it's now been 5 days with no deposit. I've been a nervous wreck thinking I did something wrong with my certification or that there was an issue with my direct deposit info. Finding this thread has been such a relief - it's clear this is a widespread problem affecting tons of people with identical timelines. I can't believe NYSDOL didn't send out any advance notice about potential delays when they implemented their new fraud prevention system. We depend on these payments for rent, groceries, and other essentials - the lack of communication is really unacceptable. I'm going to start by calling my bank tomorrow to rule out any holds on their end, then maybe try that Claimyr service if I need to reach someone at NYSDOL directly. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and keeping each other informed. It really helps to know we're not alone in this!
