NY unemployment released payment but nothing in my bank account after 5 days
I certified for my weekly NY unemployment benefits last Sunday and got the confirmation email that my payment was released on Monday. The portal shows 'payment released' status but it's been 5 days and still nothing in my bank account! I've NEVER had this happen before - usually the money shows up within 1-2 days max. I checked my direct deposit info in the system and everything is correct. I've tried calling the NYSDOL like 30 times but can't get through to a real person. Has anyone else experienced delays with their unemployment payments lately? I'm seriously stressing because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money.

Same thing happened to me last month. The NYSDOL systems are super backed up right now because they're updating something in their payment processing system. Mine eventually showed up after 7 days even though it said 'payment released' the whole time. Try not to panic yet!

•7 DAYS??? That's insane. Did they at least notify you about the delay or did you just have to sit there wondering what happened to your money? I can't believe they'd just leave people hanging like this.

The payment release date isn't always when the money actually transfers. There's been a known issue since the February 2025 system update where the payment status updates correctly but the actual ACH transfer gets delayed. If you check your payment history, does it show the actual deposit date or just the release date? Also, some banks hold these deposits for 24-48 hours after receiving them.

•It just shows 'payment released' with Monday's date. No deposit date listed. My bank has never held these deposits before - they usually show up the next day after NYSDOL releases them. This is so frustrating!

•It's true - there was an announcement about payment processing upgrades on the NYSDOL website last month, but they didn't mention it would cause delays. They really should have communicated this better to claimants.

•But that's the thing - mine have ALWAYS been consistent before, next day deposit after release. This sudden change with no explanation is what's concerning me.

After trying for DAYS to reach someone about a similar issue (payment showed released but never hit my account), I finally got through to a NYSDOL rep using Claimyr.com - it's a service that holds your spot in the phone queue and calls you when an agent is about to answer. Totally worth it for me because I found out there was a verification flag on my account that was holding up my payment, and they fixed it right away. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you want to see how it works. The agent told me they're experiencing delays due to a new fraud prevention system they implemented, which is why some payments are taking longer than usual.

•Thank you for this! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm desperate to talk to someone. Did they explain why some accounts get flagged and others don't? I haven't changed anything about my claim.

•The agent said it can be totally random - sometimes it's because your bank info matches someone else's partially, or because you certified from a different device or IP address than usual. They're being extra cautious with the new system. Definitely worth calling to check if you've been flagged.

For everyone in this thread - here's what's happening with NY unemployment payments right now: 1. NYSDOL implemented a new fraud detection system in February 2025 2. This system occasionally flags accounts for additional verification 3. When flagged, payments show as 'released' in the system but are actually held in a pending state 4. The system is backlogged with manual reviews 5. Most payments are being released within 5-7 business days without claimants needing to do anything If it's been more than 7 business days, you should definitely contact NYSDOL directly. Request a supervisor if the first representative can't help, as supervisors have override capabilities for these payment holds.

•This is 100% accurate. The agent I finally reached told me the exact same thing. They're overwhelmed with the new system implementation.

I had something similar happen but it turned out to be my bank's issue! They were holding the deposit for "verification" or something. Have you called your bank to check if they're holding it? Sometimes they do that and don't even notify you.

•I didn't think to call my bank! I just assumed it was NYSDOL since the money always came through smoothly before. I'll give them a call too, thanks for the suggestion.

Quick update for everyone - NYSDOL just posted an official notice about the payment delays on their Twitter account. They're acknowledging the issue and saying all pending payments should be processed by the end of next week. They're blaming it on the new fraud prevention system implementation.

•FINALLY some official acknowledgment! But end of next week?? That's potentially 12+ days after releasing payments. People have bills to pay! This is absolutely unacceptable.
