NY unemployment direct deposit missing for 5 weeks - account shows 'pending transfer'

I certified for my NY unemployment benefits 5 weeks in a row now and my account keeps showing 'pending transfer' but nothing hits my bank account! My claim was approved back in March 2025 and I got 3 payments just fine, then suddenly nothing since April 7th. The payment history section shows each weekly certification was received and says 'payment released' but with a status of 'pending transfer' for ALL of them. That's over $2,180 just sitting somewhere in limbo! I've called NYSDOL like 45 times and either get disconnected or sit on hold until the office closes. Has anyone else had their direct deposit just stop working? Did you ever get your money? I'm seriously about to miss my rent payment and I'm freaking out.

You need to check if your bank account information was flagged for verification. This happened to me in February. I discovered there was a "Bank Information Verification Required" notice buried in my Message Center that I completely missed. Log into your NY.gov account, go to your dashboard, and check all messages - even ones that might look like generic announcements. You might need to submit your bank statement and ID through the secure document upload system.

Just checked and there IS a message from 3 weeks ago about "payment method verification needed"!! How did I miss this?? It doesn't even say what I need to submit though... just says "additional verification is required" and to call the same number I've been trying. Did they tell you exactly what documents to upload?

If you can't get through, file a complaint with your state representative. I was in the same situation last month and my state assembly member's office contacted NYSDOL on my behalf. Had my problem fixed within 48 hours.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me back in January. They secretly changed their verification process but didn't notify anyone properly! I spent THREE WEEKS calling NYSDOL every single day and could never get through. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!!! THEYRE HOPING YOU'LL JUST GO AWAY and not claim what you're owed. Don't let them do this!

I definitely won't give up, but I can't even figure out what they need from me! Did you eventually get your money? What ended up fixing it for you?

I had this happen in March. Turns out my bank rejected the deposit for some reason but didn't tell me. Call your bank and ask if they've rejected any incoming ACH transfers.

I just called my bank and they said they haven't rejected anything... they don't even see any attempted deposits since April 7th. So the problem must be on NYSDOL's side. I'm going crazy trying to get through to them!

After trying for 2 weeks to get through to someone at NYSDOL about a similar issue, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback. You can watch their demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE to see how it works. I was skeptical but they got me a callback from an agent within 30 minutes. The agent fixed my pending transfer issue right away - apparently my account had been flagged for verification because I had logged in from a different device than usual. The agent unflagged my account and I got all my backpay two days later.

Yes, it worked for me when nothing else did. I had been calling for 2 weeks straight. The agent told me they're dealing with a huge backlog of verification issues due to some new fraud prevention system they implemented in March 2025.

Try changing ur payment method to paper check temp, then change back to direct deposit. that resets sumthin in the system. worked 4 me but took like 10 days to get the backpay

I tried doing that but it won't let me change payment methods online. Says I need to speak with an agent to make any changes to payment information. It's ridiculous!

I work for a nonprofit that helps people with unemployment issues. This is a known problem that started after NYSDOL implemented their new verification system in March 2025. Here's what's happening: 1. Their automated system is flagging accounts that match certain patterns (multiple devices, IP changes, banking changes in the past 90 days, etc.) 2. When flagged, payments show as "pending transfer" but don't actually process 3. The system generates a verification notice, but it often gets buried in your message center 4. You need to call and speak with an agent who can verify your identity and release the pending payments Unfortunately, this is affecting thousands of claimants right now, which is why the phone lines are jammed. If you absolutely cannot get through, you can also try: - Contacting your state assembly member's office - Sending a secure message through your NY.gov account (slower, but can work) - Visiting a Career Center in person (bring full ID documentation) Once verified, payments are usually released within 2-3 business days.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! This makes so much more sense now. I'm going to try visiting a Career Center tomorrow since it's impossible to get through on the phone. I'll bring my ID, bank statements, and anything else that might help prove my identity. Really appreciate your help!

Im confused about something - if u got 3 payments fine and then this started happening, did u change anything about your certification answers? They scrutinize those answers and if u say anything different from previous weeks it can trigger a review.

Nope, I've been answering everything exactly the same each week. I didn't make any changes to my account, didn't change devices or locations, nothing. That's what makes this so frustrating!

Update on my situation - I used Claimyr and got through to an agent this afternoon. They confirmed my account was flagged for "random identity verification" - not because I did anything wrong. The agent verified my identity over the phone, removed the hold, and said my payments should process in 2-3 business days. She also said they're aware of the message center issue where important notices are getting buried and they're working on fixing that. Hope this helps others in the same situation!

That's great news! I think I'm going to try Claimyr too if I can't get help at the Career Center tomorrow. At this point I just need to talk to a real person who can fix this. Thanks for the update!

That's amazing! So glad it worked for you! I'm definitely going to try it tomorrow if the Career Center doesn't work out.

Btw everyone should know - these pending transfers do eventually come through even without intervention, but takes forever (like 6-8 weeks). Had similar issue last year and eventually got all my money, but not before nearly getting evicted. The system is totally broken.

6-8 WEEKS?!?! That's absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! People need that money NOW, not two months later when they're already homeless! The whole system is designed to make getting benefits as difficult as possible.

UPDATE: I went to the Career Center and they couldn't help directly but gave me a special number to call. Still couldn't get through, so I used Claimyr and got a callback within an hour. The agent confirmed my account was flagged for verification and fixed it right away. She also put a note that I should receive all my backpay within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions - especially about Claimyr and checking the Message Center. I would have never thought to look there for important notices!

Glad to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread in the future - always check your Message Center thoroughly, even if you don't get email notifications. And if you're stuck in the phone queue loop, remember you have multiple options: Claimyr, state representatives, Career Centers, or even the secure message system (though that's slower).
