NY unemployment direct deposit missing for 3 weeks - still pending after certification
I've been receiving NY unemployment benefits since January without any issues, but my last 3 weekly certifications are still showing as 'pending' with no money in my account. I certified on time each Sunday as usual. My payment history shows the certifications were received but stuck in 'pending' status. I've been trying to call the unemployment office every day for a week straight but can't get through - just automated messages saying high call volume and then it disconnects me. Has anyone else had their NY unemployment payments suddenly stop like this recently? I'm getting really worried because rent is due next week and I was counting on these payments. Is there a system issue happening? Do I need to submit something else?

I had almost the exact same thing happen in February. My payments were pending for about 2 weeks and then suddenly they all came through at once. There was some kind of system update they were doing that slowed down payment processing. Are you still able to log into your account and certify? That's usually a good sign that it's just a processing delay and not something wrong with your claim.

•Yes, I can still log in and certify. That makes me feel a little better, thanks. Did you have to do anything to make your payments go through, or did they just suddenly appear?

•No, nothing has changed with my employment status. Still fully unemployed and looking for work. That's why I'm so confused!

This is likely a quarterly review issue. NY unemployment does automatic reviews at the end of each calendar quarter to verify your continued eligibility. If you began your claim in January, you're hitting your first quarterly review period which often causes delays. The system checks if you've had any unreported earnings or changes in eligibility. A few things to check: 1. Look for any messages in your online inbox about providing additional information 2. Make sure you reported any work/earnings accurately during certification 3. Verify your direct deposit information hasn't changed or expired The good news is that these reviews typically resolve on their own within 3-4 weeks. You'll get all your back payments when it clears.

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I didn't know about these quarterly reviews. I just checked my online inbox and don't see any messages requesting additional information. My direct deposit info is still the same. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and hope it resolves soon.

THIS IS HAPPENING TO EVERYONE!! The NYS system is BROKEN and they don't care at all about us regular people trying to survive!! I've been waiting 5 WEEKS now with the same problem. Every time I call I get disconnected. I finally got through once and the person just said "it's processing" and transferred me to another department that never picked up!!! They're probably hoping people just give up so they don't have to pay.

•While I understand your frustration, it's not accurate to say this is happening to everyone or that the system is intentionally delaying payments. There are legitimate verification processes that can cause temporary delays, especially at quarter boundaries. Most claims do resume payment within 2-4 weeks without any action needed.

This is actually quite common during the end-of-quarter review period, which happens every March, June, September, and December. The NYSDOL system automatically flags a percentage of claims for review to ensure continued eligibility. What's likely happening is your claim is undergoing a standard review, but because of current backlogs in the department, it's taking longer than the typical 1-2 weeks. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue certifying weekly even if payments are pending 2. Check your message inbox daily for any questionnaires or documents needed 3. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM (that's when wait times are shortest) 4. If you have any part-time earnings, double-check that you've reported them correctly When the review completes, all pending payments will process at once, typically in 2-3 business days.

•Thank you for this detailed information. I've been certifying every week and checking my inbox daily. I'll try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow. I haven't had any earnings at all to report, so that shouldn't be an issue. I hope you're right about getting all the payments at once when this resolves!

I went through this exact nightmare last quarter. Ended up getting all my back payments after 4 weeks, but only AFTER I finally got through to an actual claims specialist who could see what was happening. The regular customer service people couldn't help at all. After wasting hours with the regular phone system getting nowhere, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Cost me a little bit but saved me literally days of frustration and I got my backpay of over $1,600 the next day after speaking to the specialist. The agent told me my claim had been flagged for a routine quarterly review but was stuck in the system waiting for someone to manually approve it.

•i've heard about that service - did u actually talk to a real person or was it just another automated thing??

•That's really helpful, thank you! I might try this if I can't get through in the next few days. It sounds like speaking to an actual specialist is what's needed to move things along.

Check ur payment method in ur account settings. My friend had same issue and turned out his direct deposit info got messed up somehow and they were trying to send $ to wrong account. U should always double check the account # is still correct in the system.

•Just checked and my direct deposit info is still correct. The last 4 digits of my account match what's in my bank account. Good suggestion though!

Update question - has anything changed in your payment status in the past couple days? If not, I'd recommend also checking if there might be an identity verification hold. Sometimes these get triggered during quarterly reviews if any information appears inconsistent. If that's the case, you would need to upload identity documents through your online account.

•No changes at all, still just says "pending" for all three weeks. I don't see anything about identity verification in my account, but is there a specific place I should look for that? I'm worried I might be missing something important.

Identity verification notices would appear in your message inbox. If there's nothing there, it's most likely the standard quarterly review delay rather than an identity issue. Another thing to check - log in and go to the "View Payment History" section. For the pending payments, check if there's any specific status code or message. Sometimes there will be a code that provides a clue about why it's held up.

•I just checked the payment history again and there's no specific code - it just says "pending" for all three weeks. My inbox is completely empty too, no notifications at all. It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening or how long this will take to resolve.

Were you able to get through to anyone yet? The longer this goes without contact with an actual claims specialist, the more likely it'll just stay stuck in the system. That's why I ended up using that Claimyr service - after two weeks of not being able to reach anyone, I realized I needed to talk to a specialist to get it unstuck.

•I tried calling at 8am yesterday and today but still couldn't get through - just the same automated message about high call volume. I think I'm going to try that service you mentioned. At this point I'm desperate to talk to an actual person who can tell me what's going on and help fix it.

Let us know what happens! When my payments finally processed, they all came through on the same day. I literally checked my account in the morning and nothing, then checked again after lunch and suddenly had all three weeks' worth of payments in my account. I hope yours resolves soon!

•I finally got through to someone using that Claimyr service! The agent confirmed my claim was flagged for quarterly review but said everything looks good in my file. She manually pushed it through and said I should receive all my back payments within 2-3 business days. Such a relief! Will update when the money actually arrives.
