NY unemployment payment never hit my KeyBank card - 3 weeks overdue

Hey everyone, I'm really starting to panic here. I've been claiming my NY unemployment benefits every Monday like clockwork, but my payment from January 6th, 2025 never showed up on my KeyBank card. It's been THREE WEEKS now! My payment history on the NYSDOL site shows 'processed' with a release date, but nothing has actually hit my account. I've called the automated line like 50 times and it just keeps saying my payment was released. I desperately need this money for rent ($495) and groceries. I've tried calling the regular unemployment number but can't get through to an actual human. Has anyone else had this problem recently? What did you do to fix it? I'm seriously about to lose my mind over this.

I have the KeyBank debit card. Did you eventually get your money? How did you finally reach someone to fix it?

This happens sometimes when there's a payment verification flag on your account. The system shows it as processed but it gets held for review. Unfortunately, you definitely need to speak with an actual agent to resolve this. Three things to try: 1. Call right when they open at 8:00 AM 2. Try the alternate number ending in 1032 instead of the main line 3. Use the message system in your online account and specifically mention the payment date and that you see it as processed but not received Keep all your documentation of when you certified and the confirmation numbers. Once you reach someone, they can usually release the payment within 24-48 hours.

Thank you! I've tried calling right when they open but still can't get through - it just says "all representatives are busy" and disconnects me. I'll try that alternate number tomorrow morning. Do you know if there's any way to escalate this? I'm getting really desperate.

OMG I didn't even think of that! Let me check... no, my card is good until 2027. I just checked the balance online and there's just nothing there from the last payment.

I went through this EXACT nightmare last month!! Called for HOURS every day for over a week and kept getting disconnected. Was about to lose my MIND. I finally got through using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Cost money but was 100% worth it because I was missing almost $600 in payments that were "processed" but never hit my account. Turned out there was a random identity verification flag on my account that no one told me about. The agent fixed it in like 5 minutes once I actually got to talk to someone. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Thank you so much for the tip! I'm going to look into this right now. At this point I'll try anything. Did it take long once you used the service?

The NYSDOL system is completely broken right now!! I've been having problems too but with certification not payments. Have you checked if there are any action items in your online account? Sometimes they hide these things and don't tell you about them but expect you to find them???

I just double-checked and don't see any action items or messages. Everything looks normal except the missing money. Did you ever get your certification issue fixed?

@original poster - It took maybe 20 minutes for them to call me back once I used Claimyr? WAY better than the hours I spent trying to call myself. The agent told me they're dealing with a huge backlog right now because of some system update they did in December that messed up a bunch of accounts.

I tried that service too after seeing it recommended here. Total lifesaver when I had issues with backpay last week. Calling on your own is basically impossible these days

One more thing to check - log into your NYSDOL account and go to "Payment History." Look at the payment method listed for that specific payment. Sometimes they randomly switch from direct deposit to debit card or vice versa. If it says "Direct Deposit" but you're checking your KeyBank card, that could be the issue.

Just checked and it definitely says "Debit Card" as the payment method. The status is "Processed" with a release date of Jan 8, 2025. But nothing has shown up on my card. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow morning since nothing else is working.

this is why i HATE the keybank card!!! switched to direct deposit after they "lost" my payment twice. good luck getting through to nysdol, the whole system is a joke

I agree! The KeyBank system is so unreliable. I had multiple issues with them last year. I switched to direct deposit and haven't had a problem since. It's definitely worth making the change once you get this current issue resolved.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone! I used that Claimyr service and they called me back when I was connected to an agent. Turns out there was a payment hold on my account because of some random quarterly review thing. The agent cleared it right away and said I should get my payment within 3 business days. Why they couldn't just notify me about this is beyond me, but at least it's getting fixed! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Great to hear you got it resolved! This is unfortunately common with their quarterly reviews - they sometimes flag accounts randomly without notification. Make sure to keep track of your payment dates and confirmation numbers for future reference. Glad it's getting fixed!
