NY unemployment certification from 8/29 not processed or released - what does this mean?
I certified for my NY unemployment benefits on Tuesday (8/29) like always, but when I checked my payment history today, it's showing that the certification wasn't processed or released yet. Usually by Thursday the payment is at least showing as 'released' even if it hasn't hit my account. My account still shows I have benefits available, but nothing for this week is showing up at all. Has anyone else experienced this with their 8/29 certification? What does it mean when a certification isn't 'processed'? Should I try to certify again or will that mess things up worse? Getting worried since rent is due next week...

I had the same issue with my 8/29 certification. Called NYSDOL this morning and they said there's a processing delay affecting some accounts this week. The rep told me it should clear up by Monday and all pending certifications will be processed then. Don't certify again - that could flag your account for fraud review. Just wait until Monday, and if it's still not showing as processed by Tuesday, then call.

•Thank you! That's a relief to hear it's not just me. Did they say what caused the delay? I'll wait until Monday but I'm still nervous because I absolutely need this payment for rent.

•Glad I'm not alone but still frustrating! Have you tried calling them?

This happened to me last month - turns out I needed to answer an ID verification question that appeared in my messages section of my account. Check there to see if they need additional information from you. Sometimes they randomly select accounts for verification and won't process payments until you respond.

•Just checked my messages and I don't see anything about verification. My account looks completely normal except for the missing payment. Thanks for the suggestion though!

When this happened to me, I used Claimyr to get through to an agent right away. Their system connects you directly to a NYSDOL rep without waiting on hold for hours. The website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent told me that sometimes certifications get flagged for manual review if anything in your answers differs from previous weeks, even slightly. In my case, they fixed it while I was on the phone and my payment was released the next day.

•Thank you! If it's not resolved by Monday I'll definitely check out that service. Did the agent tell you why your certification got flagged?

•THERE IS DEFINITELY A SYSTEM PROBLEM!! This isn't the first time either. Last time they had a 'glitch' it took 3 WEEKS for some people to get their money! And of course they never notify us about these issues - we just have to guess why our money isn't there. SO FRUSTRATING!!!

Have you checked if there was a holiday that might have affected processing? Sometimes bank holidays can delay unemployment payments by 1-2 business days. Also worth checking if your benefit year expired - that happened to me and I had to reapply even though I still had a balance showing.

•I don't think there was a holiday this week? And my benefit year doesn't expire until November according to my account. It's weird because the certification isn't even showing as pending - it's like it doesn't exist in the system.

Just an update for everyone - I just checked my account and my payment from 8/29 now shows as "released" with a payment date of tomorrow. Looks like they're starting to process the backlog. Check your accounts!

Still nothing in my account! This is getting ridiculous. Every time there's a 'glitch' some of us get left behind. I've been on unemployment for 4 months and there's ALWAYS some problem with their system. I'm calling first thing tomorrow.

•If you need to get through quickly tomorrow, I'd recommend using Claimyr. Monday mornings are the worst time to try calling NYSDOL directly - everyone who had issues over the weekend is calling at the same time. The claimyr.com service got me connected in about 10 minutes when the regular line was quoting 3+ hour waits.

For those who are still having issues, make sure you check these things: 1. Verify your direct deposit information hasn't changed 2. Check for any messages in your account inbox 3. Make sure your ID.me verification is still active 4. Look for any work search requirements that might not have been properly reported Any of these could cause a certification to be held for review. If everything looks good, then it's likely the system delay others mentioned.

•I did all that already! Everything in my account looks perfect. This is 100% on their end.

my brother works at a bank and he said sometimes end of month payments take longer to process because of high volume. maybe thats why august 29 certifications are slow?

•That's actually a good point. End of month processing does sometimes create banking delays, especially when it coincides with the end of a fiscal quarter for some institutions. It's also possible NYSDOL was doing some kind of system maintenance or update that affected processing. Glad to hear most people are seeing their payments now.
