NY unemployment certification suddenly showing 'enter for benefits' instead of 'processing' - problem?
I just certified for my NY unemployment benefits on Sunday as usual. When I checked my account status today, it shows 'enter for benefits' instead of 'processing' which is what it normally says after I certify. Has something gone wrong with my certification? Did the system somehow not register that I certified already? Anyone else experiencing this issue or know what it means? Getting anxious since I really need this week's payment to come through on time.

this happened to me last month, freaked me out too! turned out it was just a glitch in their system. I called the next day and the rep said my certification went through fine even tho the website was showing wrong status. got paid normal time.

•Thanks for the reassurance! Were you able to get through to a rep easily? I've always had trouble with the phone lines.

Sometimes the system updates at different times. I recommend checking again after midnight tonight, as their system often refreshes overnight. If it still shows 'enter for benefits' tomorrow, you should definitely call to verify your certification was recorded properly. Also double-check your email to see if you received the usual confirmation message after certifying.

•I didn't get a confirmation email either which is making me even more nervous. I'll check again after midnight and try calling tomorrow if it's still showing wrong.

•The NYSDOL website is SO glitchy lately!! I've had to deal with weird status changes like three times in the past few months. They need to actually FIX their system instead of just patching it up all the time. Ridiculous that we have to stress about whether our benefits went through.

You might wanna try logging out completely, clearing your browser cookies/cache, and then logging back in. Sometimes the NYSDOL website gets stuck showing old information. I've had weird glitches like this before too.

•Good idea! I'll try that right now and see if it changes anything.

This is actually a known issue with the NY unemployment portal. I've been on UI since January and noticed this happens occasionally. What matters most is that your payment history eventually shows the certification and payment - even if the main dashboard shows the wrong status. Have you checked your payment history section? It might show your certification there even when the main page is glitching out.

•I just checked my payment history and don't see this week's certification at all. Now I'm really worried something went wrong when I certified.

•Don't panic yet. The payment history sometimes takes 24-48 hours to update after certification. If it's still not showing by Wednesday, that's when you should definitely call. Make sure you've documented when you certified (date/time) in case you need to discuss with a rep.

I've dealt with this issue before with clients. This typically happens when either: 1) The system didn't fully process your certification despite giving you a confirmation, 2) There's a temporary display glitch, or 3) There's an issue requiring additional information on your claim. I suggest trying these steps in order: - Log out and log back in (clear cache as someone suggested) - Wait until tomorrow to see if it updates overnight - If still showing 'enter for benefits' tomorrow, you should call NYSDOL immediately to verify Don't wait too long to call if it doesn't resolve, as there's a limited window to correct certification issues before it affects your payment schedule.

•I had this happen in February and tried calling for THREE DAYS straight but couldn't get through. Kept getting hung up on after waiting on hold forever. Any suggestions for actually reaching a human?

•The phone system is definitely frustrating. I've found calling right when they open (8:00 AM) or during lunch hours (12:30-1:30 PM) sometimes works better. If you're still struggling, some of my clients have had success with Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a service that helps you get through to an unemployment agent faster. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Much better than spending days trying to get through.

Update: I cleared my cache and cookies, tried logging in again, and it's STILL showing 'enter for benefits.' I also tried certifying again since that's what it was prompting me to do, but got an error message saying I already certified for this week. So the system knows I certified but is displaying the wrong status? This is so confusing!

•That error message is actually good news! It confirms the system did record your certification. This is definitely just a display glitch. Your payment should process normally even though the status is displaying incorrectly.

•That's a relief! I'll still keep an eye on it tomorrow to make sure it changes, but feeling a bit better now. Thanks everyone for the help!

ALWAYS SCREENSHOT everything you do on that site!!! I take screenshots of every certification with the date/time showing in case they try to say I didn't certify. Too many 'glitches' that somehow always seem to benefit them not us!

•^^^ this is actually really good advice. i started doing this after they once claimed i didnt certify when i definitely did. saved me last time when something went wrong

•Absolutely right. Documentation is key with any government system. Screenshots with timestamps have saved several people I know from payment delays.

Had the same issue back in January. Got super worried, but checked my bank account 2 days later and the money was deposited on schedule despite the website never updating correctly. The website and the actual payment system seem to be separate sometimes. I wouldn't worry unless your payment doesn't arrive on your usual day.

•Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'll wait and see if the payment hits my account on the regular day. Fingers crossed!

Final advice - if your payment doesn't arrive on schedule, don't wait around hoping it will resolve itself. Call immediately. For issues like this, getting ahead of potential problems can prevent weeks of delayed payments. When you call, mention specifically that you received the 'already certified' error message when trying to certify again, as that's evidence your original certification was recorded.

•Thanks for all the advice! I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got through to a rep this morning. They confirmed my certification went through fine and said it's just a display glitch affecting some accounts. Payment should arrive on schedule! Such a relief.
