NY unemployment system keeps asking me to certify again even after I already did - what's happening?

I'm having the most frustrating issue with my NY unemployment certification. Every week I certify for benefits (both online and by phone), but the very next day the system still says I need to certify again! It's like my certification isn't being recorded at all. I even called the automated system to certify yesterday, completed the whole process, and got a confirmation number. But when I checked my account this morning, it's showing I still need to certify for the same week! I'm worried I won't get paid because the system isn't registering my certifications. Has anyone else dealt with this certification glitch? I'm getting desperate as my bills are piling up.

Omg the SAME EXACT THING happened to me last month! The system is so messed up. I kept certifying and certifying but nothing went through. I was going CRAZY for almost 3 weeks with no payments. Finally figured out it was because my claim needed to be reviewed or something but NOBODY TOLD ME THIS. The website just kept letting me certify over and over with no explanation!!!!

3 weeks?? I can't wait that long! Did you do anything special to fix it or did it just suddenly start working again?

probably a technical glitch with your claim. are you using the same device each time? sometimes switching from phone to computer helps. also check if your benefit year ended, that could cause problems too

I tried both my phone and laptop, same issue on both. My benefit year shouldn't be ending for another 4 months, so I don't think that's it. Thanks for the suggestions though.

This sounds like you might have a pending issue on your claim that needs to be resolved. When the system asks you to certify repeatedly despite already doing so, it typically means one of several things: 1. There's a discrepancy in your previous certification that triggered a review 2. Your claim has been flagged for identity verification 3. The system hasn't processed your certification due to a technical error 4. There might be a question about your work search activities The most effective solution is to speak directly with a claims specialist. Unfortunately, as you've probably discovered, getting through to someone at NYSDOL can be extremely difficult with the phone queue issues in 2025.

I think you're right about the pending issue. I just wish they would tell me what it is instead of letting me certify over and over! How am I supposed to fix a problem if I don't know what it is? I've tried calling but can't get through to anyone...

I had this same problem for a few weeks. Very annoying. Check your message inbox on your online account - sometimes they send messages about issues but don't notify you by email or text.

Just checked my inbox and there's nothing there. It's completely empty. So frustrating!

After dealing with a similar certification loop issue, I finally managed to resolve it by speaking with a claims specialist. The key was actually getting through to someone who could see my account status. The problem in my case (and possibly yours) was that there was a "pending adjudication" flag on my account. This happens when something in your certification answers triggers a review - maybe you answered a question differently than usual or there was a system flag for potential identity verification. Once I spoke with someone, they cleared the flag within minutes and my certifications started processing normally. But reaching someone at NYSDOL is incredibly difficult these days.

That sounds exactly like what's happening to me. Did you have to call hundreds of times to get through? I've been trying for days with no luck.

After struggling with this exact issue for almost two weeks, I finally got through to an actual person at unemployment using Claimyr. It's a service that basically calls NYSDOL for you and gets you in the callback queue. I was skeptical at first but they got me a callback within 2 hours when I had been trying for days on my own. The agent confirmed I had a "pending adjudication" flag on my account because I had accidentally entered different employment search information. They fixed it immediately and released my payments. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Not sure if this helps but I was desperate after not getting paid for weeks.

Thank you! I might give this a try. At this point I'm desperate to get this fixed because I need my benefits to pay rent next week. Anything that can help me actually talk to someone is worth trying.

not helpful but I wanted to say the unemployment system is a joke. they expect us to do everything perfectly but their own website can't even work right half the time lol

Ugh, I know! It's so frustrating. We depend on this system working correctly, but it seems like it's designed to fail sometimes.

Just following up on this thread - there's one other thing to check that hasn't been mentioned. Sometimes if you have a partial claim (meaning you reported some work hours during a week), the system might get confused and keep asking you to certify. Did you report any work or income during your weekly certification? If so, double-check that you entered everything correctly, as even a small error in income reporting can trigger this kind of certification loop. Also, when you certify by phone, make sure you stay on the line until you hear the final confirmation message. Some people hang up too early thinking the process is complete when it's not.

I haven't worked at all during this period, so it's not a partial claim. And I definitely stayed on the phone until I got a confirmation number. I think you and the others are right that there must be some kind of flag on my account that's causing this, and I just need to speak with someone to clear it up.

Any updates?? Did you get this fixed? I'm curious because mine eventually fixed itself after like 3 weeks but I never found out why!!

I actually tried that service someone mentioned (Claimyr) and got a callback from NYSDOL yesterday! The rep said there was an identity verification flag on my account that was preventing my certifications from being processed. They cleared it and said my payments should start processing normally now. I'm watching my account closely to make sure it works. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else facing this issue, here's a quick summary of possible solutions: 1. Check your online message inbox regularly for notices 2. Verify your benefit year is still active 3. Make sure you're completing the entire certification process 4. Try certifying through a different method (phone vs. online) 5. Check if you have any pending questionnaires in your account 6. Reach out to a claims specialist if the issue persists The certification loop problem is unfortunately common with NY unemployment in 2025, but it's almost always resolvable once you speak with a representative who can see the specific flag on your account.

This is such a common issue and it's maddening! I went through something similar about 6 months ago. The system kept accepting my certifications but then acting like I never submitted them. Turned out there was a work search verification flag on my account that I had no idea about. One thing that might help while you're trying to get through to someone - screenshot or write down your confirmation numbers every time you certify. When I finally got a rep on the phone, having those confirmation numbers helped prove I had been certifying regularly, and they were able to see the certifications in their system even though my online account didn't show them as processed. Also, if you're still having trouble getting through by phone, try calling right when they open (usually 8am) or during lunch hours when call volume might be lower. The wait times are brutal but persistence pays off. Hope you get this sorted out soon!

That's really smart advice about keeping track of the confirmation numbers! I wish I had thought to do that earlier. I did save a few of them but not all. It's so frustrating that we have to document everything just to prove the system isn't working properly. The timing tip is helpful too - I've been calling randomly throughout the day but maybe I should be more strategic about when I call. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I just went through this exact same nightmare last month! The certification loop is so frustrating - I was certifying every few days thinking maybe it would finally stick. Turns out I had a "pending determination" on my account that was invisible to me but blocking all my certifications from processing. What finally worked for me was calling the main NYSDOL number (888-209-8124) at exactly 8:00 AM on a Tuesday. I know everyone says the phones are impossible, but I got through after about 45 minutes of busy signals by hitting redial constantly. The rep immediately saw the issue - apparently my previous employer had contested my claim and it triggered an automatic hold. She cleared it in about 5 minutes and released 3 weeks of backed-up payments the same day. The key was getting to someone who could actually see the backend of my account, because the online portal shows nothing about these hidden flags. Don't give up! Keep that confirmation number documentation and try the early morning calling strategy. The system is broken but there are real people who can fix it once you reach them.
