When will unemployment pay from NYS Department of Labor arrive in my account?
I certified for my weekly benefits on Tuesday morning and still haven't received payment. It's been 4 days now and my rent is due tomorrow. My claim shows as active on my.ny.gov but no payment amount is listed yet. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for NYS Department of Labor to release unemployment payments after you do your weekly certification? I'm getting really stressed about this timing.

Typically NYS Department of Labor processes payments within 2-3 business days after you complete your weekly claim certification. If you certified Tuesday, you should see payment by Thursday or Friday at the latest. Check your payment history section on the website to see if there's a processing date listed.

mine usually hits my direct deposit account on thursdays when i certify on mondays, sometimes fridays if theres a holiday or something

There could be a few reasons for the delay. Did you answer any questions differently this week? Sometimes if you report work hours or earnings, it can trigger additional review that delays payment. Also check if there are any outstanding issues showing in your account that need attention.

The NYS Department of Labor system has been having delays lately. I had the same issue two weeks ago - certified Monday, didn't get paid until the following Tuesday! It's frustrating when you're counting on that money. Try calling them but good luck getting through.

I work for a payroll company and we see this delay with NYS Department of Labor payments pretty regularly, especially on weeks with high volume. The system can get backlogged and payments that normally process in 2-3 days can take up to 5-7 business days. Since you certified Tuesday, I'd give it until early next week before panicking. The good news is that when it does come through, it will include the full amount you're owed. If you're really strapped for cash, some banks offer emergency overdraft protection that might help cover your rent until the payment arrives.
