How long does it take NYS Department of Labor unemployment to direct deposit after weekly claim?

I certified my weekly claim on Sunday night and it's now Thursday with no deposit yet. This is my third week collecting and the first two payments came on Tuesday. My claim status shows 'payment released' but my bank account is still empty. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for NYS Department of Labor to direct deposit unemployment payments? Getting really stressed about bills that are due tomorrow.

Usually takes 1-2 business days after you see 'payment released' status. Since you certified Sunday night and it's Thursday, that's definitely longer than normal. Check if there's any hold on your account or if you need to verify something. Sometimes banks take an extra day too.

I checked my account and don't see any holds or pending issues. Should I be worried something went wrong?

I had this exact issue last month! Turned out NYS Department of Labor flagged my claim for some random verification even though my status still showed normal. Took me forever to get through to someone to find out what was happening. If you can't reach them by phone, try using Claimyr - it's a service that helps you get through to actual NYS Department of Labor agents. Check out claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

Thanks! I'll check that out. Did they tell you why your payment was delayed when you finally got through?

Yeah they said it was some automated flag for 'irregular earnings pattern' even though I reported everything correctly. Got cleared up same day once I talked to someone.

This system is SO FRUSTRATING! They make us dependent on these payments and then just randomly delay them with no explanation. I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and they act like we should be grateful for the runaround.

I feel you on the frustration but getting angry doesn't help solve the immediate problem. OP needs their money now.

Did you maybe switch banks recently or update your direct deposit info? That can cause delays while they verify the new account.

UPDATE: Finally got through to someone this morning and they said there was a 'routine review' on my claim that caused the delay. Payment should be released today. Thanks everyone for the advice, especially about Claimyr - that actually worked to get me connected to an agent!

Glad you got it sorted out! That's such a relief when you're waiting on money for bills. The 'routine review' thing seems to happen randomly - I had the same issue a few months back and they never really explained what triggers it. Good to know Claimyr actually works, I've been hesitant to try third-party services but might be worth it to avoid the phone hell. Hope your payment comes through today as promised!

This is really helpful to know! I'm new to this whole unemployment process and hearing about these random 'routine reviews' is both reassuring and nerve-wracking. At least now I know what to look out for if my payments get delayed. The Claimyr recommendation seems to be coming up a lot - definitely bookmarking that for future reference. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thanks for the update Anna! Really glad you got through and figured out what was causing the delay. These 'routine reviews' seem to happen more often than they should - it's frustrating that they don't give us any heads up when they put a hold on payments. Definitely keeping Claimyr in my back pocket for when I inevitably need to reach someone at NYS DOL. Hope everyone else dealing with similar delays sees this thread - seems like the key is just being persistent about getting through to an actual person who can check what's really going on with your account.
