NYS Department of Labor unemployment check deposit timing - how long does it take?
I just had my first weekly claim processed and approved by NYS Department of Labor but I'm not sure when to expect the money to actually hit my account. The payment shows as 'released' on my.ny.gov but my bank account is still empty. This is my first time on unemployment so I don't know what's normal. How long does it usually take for the deposit to show up after NYS Department of Labor releases the payment?

Usually takes 1-2 business days after NYS Department of Labor shows payment as released. If you're using direct deposit it's faster than the debit card option. Check that your banking info is correct in your account.

•I set up direct deposit when I first applied. It's been 3 business days now and still nothing. Should I be worried?

The timing depends on your bank's processing schedule. NYS Department of Labor typically releases payments on Tuesday evenings, so most people see deposits Wednesday or Thursday. If it's taking longer than 5 business days, you should contact NYS Department of Labor to verify your payment method is set up correctly.

•Thank you! This is really helpful. I'll wait until Thursday and then call if nothing shows up.

I had the same issue when I started. If you need to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor quickly about payment problems, I used this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already broke waiting for my first payment lol

•It was worth it for me to get answers quickly rather than stress about it for days. The peace of mind was valuable when I needed to know what was going on with my payments.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A MESS! I've been waiting 3 WEEKS for payments that show as processed. NYS Department of Labor doesn't care if we can't pay rent while they take their sweet time with deposits!!!

•That sucks but 3 weeks sounds like there might be an issue with your account setup rather than normal processing delays.

I'm in a similar situation - my payment was released yesterday and I'm anxiously checking my account every few hours! From what I'm reading here it sounds like Wednesday/Thursday is when most people see their deposits come through. It's nerve-wracking when you're counting on that money but it seems like the 1-3 business day window is pretty standard. Hang in there!
