NYS Department of Labor weekly certification - how long does it take to process?
I just completed my weekly certification on the NYS Department of Labor website this morning and I'm wondering how long it usually takes for the payment to show up. This is my second week claiming and last week it seemed to take forever but I can't remember exactly how long. My claim status shows 'processed' but no payment date yet. Does anyone know the typical timeframe for when you certify for unemployment benefits to actually get deposited?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you certify. If you certified on Monday morning, you should see payment by Wednesday or Thursday. The NYS Department of Labor processes certifications in batches so timing can vary slightly depending on when you submit.

•Thanks! I certified around 10am today so hopefully by Wednesday then. Just nervous since bills are due this week.

been getting mine every Tuesday when I certify on Sundays, pretty consistent timing with direct deposit

The processing time depends on your payment method too. Direct deposit is faster than the debit card option. If you're using the KeyBank debit card from NYS Department of Labor, it can take an extra day sometimes. Also make sure you're certifying before the Sunday deadline - late certifications can delay your payment by a week.

•Wait, there's a Sunday deadline? I thought you just had to certify sometime during the week. How strict is that?

•You have to certify by 11:59 PM on Sunday for that week's benefits. If you miss it, you can still certify late but your payment gets pushed to the next processing cycle.

I've been dealing with delayed payments for weeks and finally found a way to actually talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor about it. Been using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an agent when the phone lines are always busy. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped me figure out why my certifications weren't processing correctly.

•Interesting, I might need that if my payment doesn't show up this week. The phone system is impossible to get through normally.

The whole system is so slow compared to other states!! My cousin lives in Texas and gets her unemployment the same day she certifies. Here in NY it's like they're processing everything by hand or something. NYS Department of Labor needs to modernize their systems.

Just want to add that holidays can mess up the timing too. If there's a federal holiday during the week you certify, everything gets pushed back by a day.

I've been certifying for about 6 months now and can confirm it's usually 2-3 business days with direct deposit. One tip I learned - if you certify really early Sunday morning (like 12:01 AM), sometimes you get paid by Tuesday instead of Wednesday. The NYS Department of Labor seems to process the Sunday night batch first. Also make sure your bank info is correct in your profile because any issues there will delay everything by at least a week while they sort it out.

•That's a great tip about certifying early Sunday morning! I never thought about the timing within the day mattering. I've been certifying whenever I remember on Sundays, usually afternoon or evening. Definitely going to try the 12:01 AM approach next week to see if I can get paid earlier. Thanks for sharing that insight from your 6 months of experience!
