How long does it take to get unemployment payment after request - NYS Department of Labor timing?
I submitted my first weekly claim certification on Tuesday and I'm wondering how long it typically takes to actually receive the payment from NYS Department of Labor. My claim was already approved and shows no issues, but this is my first time filing for UI benefits. I selected direct deposit when I set up my account. Should I expect the money within a few days or does it take longer? Really need to know so I can plan my bills accordingly.

For direct deposit, NYS Department of Labor usually processes payments within 2-3 business days after you certify your weekly claim. Since you filed Tuesday, you should see the deposit by Friday or Monday at the latest, assuming there are no holds on your account. The first payment sometimes takes an extra day or two while they verify your banking information.

•Thanks! That's actually faster than I expected. I was worried it would take a week or more.

Be aware that if this is your very first UI payment ever, NYS Department of Labor might take up to 5 business days to verify your direct deposit information. After that first payment goes through successfully, future payments will be faster. You can check your payment history on the my.ny.gov portal to track the status.

•This is so helpful! I was panicking because I thought something was wrong when my payment didn't show up Wednesday.

I had so much trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when my payments were delayed last month. Spent hours on hold just to get disconnected. Finally used claimyr.com to get connected to an actual agent and they sorted out a processing issue I didn't even know existed. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way easier than dealing with the phone system myself.

•Good to know there's a backup option if something goes wrong with my payment timing.

The timing depends on when you certify too. If you certify late Sunday night, it might not process until the next business day. I always try to certify early Sunday morning to get the fastest processing time for the week.
