NY unemployment payment missing after certifying twice - nothing received for August payments

My roommate has been certifying every week for unemployment without issues, but suddenly ran into problems. She filed on Sunday 7/11/22 like normal, but noticed Thursday came around with no deposit. She got worried and certified again on Thursday thinking maybe the first one didn't go through, but now it's been another week with no money showing up at all. Has anyone else experienced this payment delay recently? She's checked her payment history and there's nothing pending or processed for the last two weeks. She's starting to panic because rent is coming up and she was counting on those payments. Any advice on what she should do? Is there something going on with the NY unemployment system right now?

i had the same issue last month! tried calling for 3 days straight and couldnt get a human being on the line. finally i used this service called claimyr.com that got me a callback from an actual agent. turns out there was a "verification hold" on my account that nobody bothered to tell me about. got it fixed in 10 mins once i actually spoke to someone. talking to that agent was the best thing i did - got my money the next day after 3 weeks of nothing. https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

wait does that actually work? ive been trying to call for like a week and cant get through

0 coins

Yes! saved me so much time and stress. they just call for you and when someone answers they connect you. no more waiting on hold for hours 👍

0 coins

sounds like a scam tbh... another 'miracle solution' that doesnt work 🙄

0 coins

nah i thought the same thing but was desperate. it actually works - they just automate the calling part so you dont have to sit with the phone to your ear all day. got connected to a real agent who fixed my issue

0 coins

how long did it take to get the callback? i might try this if my payments don't show up by monday

0 coins

took about 2 hours for me but my friend got a call in like 45 mins. depends on how busy they are i guess

Tell your roommate to check her email. Sometimes they send notices about certification issues but they go to spam. My payments stopped in june and turned out i had to verify my identity again randomly. the system is SO broken.

0 coins

She checked and nothing in email or spam. She's gonna try calling tomorrow but everyone knows how that goes 😩

0 coins

good luck with that... took me like 35 attempts to get through last time. coffee, patience, and a fully charged phone lol

This happened to me a few weeks ago. There's apparently a system glitch where if you answer one of the questions slightly differently than previous weeks (even by accident), it can trigger a hold. Don't certify again - that might actually make things worse because the system sees it as trying to claim twice.

I work at a job center and we're seeing a LOT of this rn. The system did an update in early July and it's been creating random holds. Your roommate needs to talk to an actual person to remove the hold. Unfortunately the only way is to call... you CANNOT fix this online.

0 coins

this is why the ny unemployment system is garbage. they do these "updates" that break everything and don't tell anyone 🤬

0 coins

Yep. And then we deal with frustrated people all day who can't pay their bills because of IT problems. It's rough on both sides.

0 coins

is there any specific dept or extension that's better to ask for when calling?

0 coins

Ask for the payments department specifically. If they try to transfer you to claims, say no - you need payments.

0 coins

OMG THIS IS HAPPENING TO EVERYONE!!! I'm in a Facebook group with like 200+ people having the same issue since July. Some people are missing 3-4 weeks of payments now. The problem is calling - its impossible to get through the normal way. I finally broke down and used claimyr.com after seeing it recommended here. Got a callback in 90 mins and they fixed all my back payments. Should hit my account Tuesday.

0 coins

how much does that service cost tho?

0 coins

doesn't matter what it costs when ur about to get evicted tbh. worth every penny to get my $1800 in back payments released

0 coins

Facts. I spent HOURS trying to call before using that service. Would have paid double what they charge for the sanity alone.

0 coins

Your roommate should NOT have certified twice. That actually creates a flag in the system that can delay payments even more. First rule of unemployment is never certify more than once per week no matter what.

0 coins

Ugh wish I knew this before telling her to try again 😭 Now what should she do?

0 coins

She needs to call. Only option at this point. The double certification has to be manually cleared.

I'm dealing with this exact same thing right now! Been certifying for months with no issues then suddenly nothing for 3 weeks. Called like 50 times with no luck getting through. Finally found claimyr.com on this sub, used it yesterday and actually got someone on the phone within an hour. Turns out there was a "quarterly review" flag on my account that needed to be manually cleared. The rep fixed it in 5 minutes. My backpay is already showing as released for this coming Tuesday. Seriously, talking to a real person is the only way to fix these issues.

0 coins

Those quarterly reviews are THE WORST. They never tell you about them and then just randomly stop your money. Happened to me twice now.

0 coins

Honestly, the entire NY unemployment system is a complete joke. They expect people to survive with random payment stops and no communication. I've been through this 3 times now. Each time it's a different excuse when I finally reach someone.

0 coins

fr fr... they act like we're trying to scam them when THEY'RE the ones randomly stopping payments for no reason

0 coins

this is why I document EVERYTHING. take screenshots of every certification, save confirmation numbers, etc. they tried to tell me I didn't certify once and I had proof I did.

Here's what your roommate needs to do (I went through this exact situation in June): 1. Do NOT certify again - this makes things worse 2. Call DOL immediately - but be smart about it. Regular calling rarely works. I used claimyr.com after 2 days of failed attempts and got through right away 3. When you speak to rep, ask specifically about "payment holds" or "certification flags" 4. If they say anything about quarterly review, ask them to process it while you're on the phone 5. Get a confirmation number for the call 6. Check your payment history online about 24-48 hours after the call In most cases, this is a simple system flag that needs manual clearing. It's frustrating because there's no notification, but it's fixable. When I finally got through, agent told me this was happening to thousands of people due to a system update. The most important thing is getting through to a real person who can see your account.

This is solid advice right here 💯

Thank you so much for the detailed info! She's going to try calling tomorrow morning

0 coins

anyone else think its crazy we gotta pay a 3rd party service just to talk to the government agency that's supposed to help us? the whole system is broken af

0 coins

totally agree but also... if it works it works. spent weeks trying to call with no success then used claimyr and got through same day. system is def broken tho

0 coins

Yuuuup. Government fails at basic service then private companies step in to fix it for a fee. America 101 right there.

0 coins

I mean... I'd rather pay a few bucks to get my thousands in benefits than sit on hold for days 🤷‍♀️

0 coins

This is probably a quarterly review hold. Happens every 3 months or so where they verify your employment status hasn't changed. Problem is they NEVER TELL YOU about it and just stop your payments. You need to call - only way to fix it.

0 coins

If she has Twitter, try tweeting @NYSLabor with her issue (no personal info tho). Sometimes they respond faster that way. Worked for me back in May when I had a similar problem.

0 coins

this actually works sometimes! public shaming gets faster results than their actual customer service lol

0 coins

tell her to call her state representative!!! seriously, this worked for me after 3 weeks of nothing. they have special contacts at unemployment and can escalate issues.

0 coins

has ur roomate checked her payment history on the website? sometimes it will show a hold reason. login > payment history > look for any message in red

0 coins

She checked and there's nothing showing up at all for the last 2 weeks, not even a pending payment or hold message. It's like the certifications just disappeared.

Everytime the system "updates" this happens to thousands of people. It's like clockwork. I've been on unemployment since last year and had to deal with this 4 separate times. Each time the only solution was calling. Save yourself the headache and use a service to get thru. I've used claimyr.com twice and it was worth every penny since I got my benefits back in days instead of weeks.

0 coins

are there any other alternatives to claimyr? just curious if there are cheaper options

PaulineW

Not that I know of. I tried some auto-dialer apps but they didn't work for getting through the unemployment IVR system. This was the only thing that worked for me.
