NY unemployment income verification deadline approaching - what documents did you submit?
I just got the notice saying I need to verify my 2021 income for NY unemployment by August 15th. I'm stressing about which documents to send. The notice lists multiple options but I'm not sure if I should submit just my W2 or add more proof like paystubs too. Anyone else going through this? Did you just send W2s or did you include other documents? Did anyone send their full tax return or the W2 detail listing from their tax forms? I'm paranoid about doing this wrong and losing benefits. Any advice would be appreciated!

I just sent my W2 and that was enough. Got my verification approved in like 10 days. dont overthink it

•Did you send anything else with it? Like a cover letter explaining anything or just the W2 by itself?

•Nope. Just the W2. Keep it simple. They're dealing with thousands of these.

•mine took almost a month to get approved with just W2... seems like everyones timeline is different 🤔

After weeks of trying to reach someone at ny unemployment about my verification issues, I finally used claimyr.com and got a callback with an actual agent in under an hour. talking to an agent got my verification processed right away - it was the only way I could talk to a live agent after days of busy signals. Check out this video of how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% real. I was just as skeptical but was desperate after trying for days. The service connects you with an actual agent and saved me hours of frustration.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? the unemployment phone system is literally designed to make us give up

•It really does work. They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they get a human. Was able to fix my verification issue in one call.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•The difference is it actually connects you with the real DOL agents - the same ones you'd reach if you got through yourself. They just handle the hold time for you.

I sent my W2, 1040, and two random paystubs. Better to send too much than too little imho. They can always ignore what they dont need.

For any serious income verification questions with ny unemployment, I strongly recommend getting all your documentation prepared and organized before submitting anything. This includes: - W2 forms (most important) - Last 4 paystubs from the year in question - 1040 tax form (if your situation is complex) - Any 1099 forms if you had multiple income sources - A simple cover sheet with your claim ID and contact info If you're having trouble getting through to ask questions or verify receipt of your documents, I had success using claimyr.com to connect with an actual agent. They stayed on hold for me and connected me when a real person was available - saved me hours of frustration and got my verification sorted in one call. Remember to make copies of EVERYTHING you send and consider using certified mail if you're not submitting electronically so you have proof of delivery. This process is stressful but being organized makes a huge difference.

•Thank you for this! Did you have to explain anything in your cover letter or just basic info?

•Just basic info is fine - your name, last 4 of SSN, claim ID, contact number, and a simple statement like "enclosed are the requested documents for income verification" - nothing fancy needed.

Anyone else notice how useless the NY unemployment website is for answering these basic questions?? They make these deadlines but don't clearly explain what exactly we need to send. I hate this system with a passion

•PREACH! 👏 The website feels like it was designed in 1998 and never updated

My situation was a mess - worked multiple jobs in 2021 but one company closed down. Sent all my W2s, last paystubs from each job, and a letter explaining the situation. Got approved but took almost a month. If your case is complicated, send as much proof as possible and a clear explanation.

yall are overthinking this. just send the w2. that's literally what it's for - to prove your income. done.

don't forget to make copies of everything you send!!!!! learned this the hard way when they claimed they never received my docs the first time 😑

•THIS!!! I always send everything certified mail now after they 'lost' my documents twice

I used to work at NYSDOL (quit cuz it was a nightmare). Here's what you need to know: W2 is sufficient for most cases. If you had variable income or worked multiple jobs, include paystubs that show your highest earning periods. Don't send your entire tax return - they don't need all that and it just creates more paperwork. Just the W2s and maybe the wage and income transcript if you have it.

•No problem! And if you need to actually speak to someone (which I recommend if you have any special circumstances), don't waste days trying to call. Use claimyr.com - many of my former colleagues say it's the only reliable way for claimants to actually reach agents these days.

The unemployment system is a joke. Demanding all these documents but then making it impossible to confirm if they received them or processed them correctly. I'm in the same boat as you - just sent my stuff last week and now paranoid about whether I sent enough.

•Try calling them ASAP to see if you can get them back. I had luck getting through with claimyr.com when I had a similar panic moment

W2s only worked for me but if you're really anxious about it you could just throw in a couple pay stubs from december or sumthin. The whole process sucks but eventually they sort it out.
