Help! NY unemployment debit card expired, wrong address AND forgot my PIN 😩
So I've been receiving unemployment benefits since April of last year, and everything was fine until my debit card expired in August. I tried to use it at the store and it got declined. When I checked my account online, I noticed my card status showed as expired. Problem is, I moved to a new apartment in June, but never updated my address with ny unemployment. Now I'm stuck in this mess where I have an expired card, they probably sent the new one to my old address, and to make things worse I can't even remember my PIN number to access my account over the phone! I've been trying to get through to someone for over two weeks now. The automated system keeps disconnecting me after asking for the PIN I don't remember. How do I fix all this? Do I need to go in person somewhere? I have benefits sitting there I can't access and bills are piling up. Has anyone dealt with this triple nightmare before?

Ugh I had a similar situation back in may. NY unemployment is the WORST with this stuff. You have 2 separate issues - the card and the pin. For the card you need to call Key Bank directly at 866-295-2955. Tell them about the address change and request a new card. For the pin issue, you'll have to get through to a real person at unemployment to reset it. Good luck with that tho lol 🙄

•Thanks for the Key Bank number! I'll try calling them today. Any tips on getting thru to an actual human at ny unemployment?

•honest advice - call RIGHT when they open. like, be dialing at 7:59:55am. The queue fills up in literal seconds. Or try at like 4:30pm sometimes theres less people calling then.

•Key Bank is a nightmare too tho. I spent 3 hours on hold with them last month trying to fix something similar.

I was dealing with the same issues last week and was ready to give up after days of trying to reach someone. Then I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it got me through to a live agent in about 40min! They called and waited on hold, then connected me when an agent picked up. Talking to that agent got my issues resolved in one call and my money was accessible again. Saved me so much stress, best decision I made after spinning my wheels for days. Check out how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait is this for real? sounds too good to be true tbh. the ny unemployment phone system is literally designed to make you give up

•I was skeptical too but was desperate. It actually works - they use some tech to stay on hold for you and then ring your phone when they get a human on the line. Saved me from spending another week trying to get through.

•I used it about 3 weeks ago when my payments suddenly stopped. Got me through to someone who fixed my claim in 10 minutes. totally worth it

You're actually dealing with 3 separate issues: 1. Expired card: Contact Key Bank directly at 866-295-2955 to request a new card. They manage the debit cards, not NYSDOL. 2. Address change: You need to update this in your NY.gov account under profile settings. However, you'll probably need to verify identity since it's a major change. 3. Forgotten PIN: This is the trickiest part because you'll need to speak with an actual NYSDOL rep. The automated system isn't helpful here. Here's what I recommend: - Try calling NYSDOL at exactly 8:00 AM when they open - Use claimyr.com to get a callback when an agent is available (this is what finally worked for me) - While waiting, take care of the Key Bank part separately - Be ready with all your identity documents when you speak to someone Don't worry too much - your money isn't gone, just temporarily inaccessible. They can help resolve all three issues in one call once you get through.

•Thank you so much for laying this all out! I'm definitely going to try Claimyr since multiple people here have mentioned it. I've been trying the 8am call strategy all week with no luck.

•Just adding that when you DO get someone on the line, ask them to handle ALL your issues at once. Don't hang up until everything is resolved or you'll be back in the same boat. Make a checklist before you call.

This exact thing happened to me!! What a nightmare 😭 I had to physically go to a DOL career center and even then they couldn't help with everything. They told me I had to call a different department for the PIN reset. The system is designed to make u give up i swear

Pro tip: If u have access to your online account still, you can switch to direct deposit instead of dealing with the debit card mess. Thats what I did. Go to payment options in your account and add your bank info.

•That's actually really smart! But I can't get into my account without the PIN 😭

I HATE the key bank debit cards. They're always causing problems. And i swear they expire faster than normal debit cards. My bank card is good for like 5 years but the unemployment one seems to expire every other year

Have u tried going on Twitter and tagging the NYSDOL account? Sometimes they respond faster there cuz its public and they don't want to look bad. Worth a shot if nothing else is working.

This whole situation is exactly why I switched to direct deposit the SECOND I got approved for benefits. The key bank card is such a pain in the ass

I used to work at a call center (not for unemployment but similar govt agency). Here's what most people don't know - you can press 0 repeatedly at almost any point in the menu system to force a transfer to a human. It doesn't always work but worth trying.

•THIS. Also try 0# or *0 - sometimes those combinations force an operator

•I tried that with NY unemployment last month and it just disconnected me 🤦♂️

•Yeah it doesn't always work especially with understaffed agencies. But when u DO get through, be super nice to the rep. They deal with angry people all day and will go the extra mile if ur pleasant

Contact your state representative!!! This is literally what they're there for. I had a similar issue and my assemblyman's office fixed it in 2 days after I spent weeks trying on my own.

•↑↑↑ THIS. I don't know why more people don't do this. Their offices have direct lines to government agencies.

•I never thought of this! How do I find my rep?

•Just google 'find my NY state assembly member' and enter your address. Their websites usually have a 'constituent services' section for exactly these kinds of issues.

For anyone else reading this - DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Keep a log of every call you make, who you talk to, what they tell you. The system is such a mess that half the time one rep will tell you something completely different from the next one. I learned this the hard way.

After dealing with this exact situation for WEEKS, I finally gave up on calling and used claimyr.com - got connected with an agent in about 30 minutes. They fixed my PIN issue, updated my address, and coordinated with Key Bank for a new card. Best decision I made after banging my head against the wall trying to get through the regular phone line. Highly recommend if you're desperate.

•I get the skepticism, I was the same way. But when you've been trying to get through for weeks with no luck, you get desperate. It literally just keeps redialing for you and notifies you when someone answers. Saved me so much frustration.
