EDD sent debit card to wrong address - can't reach anyone by phone

I'm at my wits' end with this address situation! I lost my job 5 weeks ago and applied for unemployment right away. My claim got approved, I've been certifying on time, but I STILL haven't received my Money Network debit card because I realized my old address from when I lived in Sacramento is still listed in my EDD profile. I moved to Oakland over 7 months ago but completely forgot to update my address when I filed my claim. I've tried calling the main EDD number at least 20 times over the past week. I specifically tried the Family EDD phone line too, thinking it might be less busy, but I either get disconnected immediately or hear that automated message about high call volume. Meanwhile, I have $3,750 sitting on a card that's probably been delivered to my old apartment building! Has anyone dealt with this address/card issue before? Is there a special number or trick to actually speak with someone who can help? I need to update my address AND get a new card sent. My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing.

my card went to my old place 2 years ago when i fiirst applied 4 benefits. u need to call Bank of America EDD card services directly at 1-866-692-9374, not the regular edd line. they can cancel ur old card and send a new 1 to ur correct address. just make sure u update ur address in UI Online first.

Thanks for the Bank of America number! Wait though...I thought EDD switched from Bank of America to Money Network for debit cards in 2022? Does that number still work for the new cards?

The previous commenter is incorrect - EDD no longer uses Bank of America. You need to contact Money Network directly at 1-888-393-5866 for card issues. However, you MUST update your address in your UI Online profile first before they'll send a replacement card. Log into UI Online → Profile → Contact Information → Edit → Update your address. Wait 24 hours for the system to process the change, then call Money Network to report the card as never received and request a new one to your updated address. They'll deactivate the old card and send a new one. This is assuming you can access your UI Online account. If you can't, then yes, you need to speak with an EDD representative directly.

Thank you so much! I can access my UI Online account so I'll update my address there right now. Didn't realize I needed to do that BEFORE contacting Money Network. Really appreciate the clear instructions!

If you do need to speak with an actual EDD representative (which you might if there are any issues with Money Network sending a replacement), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation - needed to update some info and couldn't get through on the phones for weeks. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km After you update your address in UI Online though, definitely try the Money Network route first as the other person suggested.

I've heard mixed things about Claimyr. Did you actually get your issue resolved when they connected you? I'm wondering if it's worth trying or if EDD reps can't even help with certain problems anyway.

Yes, my issue got resolved completely. The EDD rep I spoke to was able to update my information and helped me understand next steps. The key is that Claimyr just solves the phone connection problem - once you're connected, you're talking to the same EDD representatives who can help with address changes, payment issues, etc. The service just bypasses the endless busy signals and disconnects.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING WITH EDD HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED?!? I had the EXACT same problem but with my married name/maiden name mismatch and it took me SIX WEEKS to get my money. The whole system is designed to make you give up. The address update in UI Online is just step 1 of like 5 steps. MAKE SURE you screenshot everything because they'll probably mess something else up along the way.

Six weeks?! That's absolutely ridiculous! Did you ever figure out a faster way to reach them? I'm dealing with a different issue (interview reschedule) but also can't get through on phones...

Nope, no faster way. Just had to keep calling over and over, different times of day, different numbers. FINALLY got through at 8:01am on a Tuesday. The whole system is broken. Some people on here talking about services that can help you get through but I'm suspicious of those.

This happened to me too! I forgot I had moved recently when I applied. I panicked for a while but then found out you can also chat with EDD through UI Online during business hours. Click on "Contact EDD" then "Ask EDD" and submit a question. It's not instant but they usually respond within 1-2 days and can help with address changes. Worked for me when I couldn't get through by phone.

I had no idea there was a chat option! So with Ask EDD, did you have to wait 1-2 days for each response in the conversation? Or once they initially responded, was it a real-time chat?

It's not a real-time chat unfortunately. You submit your question and wait for a response. If you need to reply back, it starts the wait time again. Took me about a week of back-and-forth to get everything sorted. Not super fast but at least I didn't have to deal with the phone system!

UPDATE: I followed the advice here and it worked! I updated my address in UI Online yesterday, then called Money Network this morning. They confirmed they had my new address in their system, cancelled the old card, and are sending a new one to my current address in Oakland. Should arrive in 7-10 business days. For anyone else with this issue - definitely update your address in UI Online FIRST, then wait at least 24 hours before contacting Money Network. The customer service rep told me that's the #1 mistake people make. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great to hear you got it resolved! Just a heads up - you might want to sign up for direct deposit once you get your new card to avoid any future card delivery issues. You can do this through your Money Network account after activating your card. That way, future payments go straight to your bank account.

That's excellent advice - I'll definitely set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card. Thank you again for your help!

So glad you got this sorted out! Your update is really helpful for others dealing with the same issue. Just wanted to add that if anyone is still having trouble getting their card after updating their address and calling Money Network, you can also visit a local EDD office if there's one near you. I know it's not ideal, but sometimes an in-person visit can help expedite things when you're dealing with urgent situations like rent being due. The wait times can be long but at least you're guaranteed to speak with someone who can access your account directly.

That's a great point about visiting in person! I didn't even think about that option. Do you happen to know if all EDD offices handle debit card issues or if there are specific locations that are better for this type of problem? I'm in the Bay Area so if there's a particular office that's known to be helpful with card/payment issues, I'd love to know for future reference (and in case anyone else reading this needs that info).
