Money Network card locked after winning EDD appeal - how to reactivate?

Won my EDD appeal last week but my Money Network card is still locked/deactivated! I got disqualified back in January for 'allegedly' not reporting some income (which I totally did report - had all the documentation). Filed an appeal right away, had my hearing in March, and FINALLY got the decision letter last week saying I won the appeal. The judge agreed the EDD made a mistake. Problem is, my Money Network card was deactivated when the disqualification happened, and now I can't access the $4,800 that should be available. Money Network says they can't help me because it's an 'EDD issue.' I've been calling EDD every day this week - either can't get through or get disconnected after waiting forever. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a specific department I need to ask for when I call? Or a special form I need to submit? I'm going crazy here - I need this money for rent next month and my landlord isn't exactly the patient type. Any help would be SUPER appreciated!!

Congrats on winning your appeal! This is unfortunately a common issue because there are TWO separate steps that need to happen: (1) EDD has to process the appeal decision in their system, which removes the disqualification, and (2) EDD has to separately send instructions to Money Network to reactivate your card. The second part often gets missed. You need to speak with someone in the Appeals Follow-Up Unit at EDD. They're the only ones who can help implement the judge's decision and send the reactivation request to Money Network. When calling, immediately ask for this department when prompted for what you're calling about.

Thank you SO much! I had no idea there was a specific Appeals Follow-Up Unit. No wonder the regular reps couldn't help me. Will try calling again tomorrow morning and specifically ask for them.

3 weeks?! 😱 I can't wait that long! Did you eventually get through to someone who fixed it? Any tips?

This is a classic gap in the EDD process flow. When an appeal is granted, there are two internal systems that need to be updated: the benefits system and the payment system. Sometimes the judge's decision gets entered in the benefits system, but the payment authorization system doesn't get the memo. You need to specifically request they check the "payment status code" in their system. It's likely still set to "DQ" (disqualified) or "HOLD" even though your eligibility status is now correct. Only someone with supervisor-level access can change this code. I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative quickly. Regular calling can take days or weeks to connect. I used their service when dealing with my appeal implementation issues and got through in about 10 minutes. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or visit claimyr.com. Worth it when you're dealing with time-sensitive issues like this.

Payment status" code -'that s exactly the kind of specific term I need!'I ll definitely ask about that when I get through. And thanks for the Claimyr suggestion,'I ll check it out. At this point'I m willing to try anything to get this resolved before rent isdue.

Had similar issue but mine was PUA claim back in 2023 and took almost 2 months to fix! EDD is so broken its not even funny. The left hand never knows what the right is doing. Ridiculous we have to jump through hoops just to get what we're entitled to.

I'm dealing with the EXACT same situation right now! Won my appeal three weeks ago, but my Money Network card is still showing $0 balance when I know there should be around $3,200 on it. I've called EDD 37 times (yes, I've been counting) and only got through twice. First rep said it would "automatically update in 3-5 business days" which was a complete lie. Second rep transferred me to someone who said they'd "submit a request to the payment processing unit" but nothing has happened. Did you try visiting an EDD office in person? I'm wondering if that might be faster than this phone nightmare.

I haven't tried going in person yet, but that's a good idea if the phone calls don't work out this week. Let me know if you end up going that route and if it helps! This whole situation is so frustrating.

Will do! I'm planning to go tomorrow morning to the office downtown. Will let you know if I make any progress. Good luck to both of us!

I used to work at BOA EDD card help desk (quit last year thank god). Here's what happens: when EDD disqualifies you, they send an electronic flag to Money Network that basically locks your account. When you win an appeal, EDD is SUPPOSED to send another electronic notification to remove the lock, but they often forget this step. The Money Network reps literally cannot do anything because they need EDD to send that electronic authorization. It's not Money Network being difficult - they physically don't have access to change your status without EDD's system notification. You have to keep calling EDD until you get someone who understands this process. Ask them to specifically "send a payment system update to Money Network" for your account. If they say they don't know what that is, ask for a supervisor or someone in the appeals processing department.

This is incredibly helpful insider information! I'm saving this explanation for future reference. So many people blame Money Network when it's actually an EDD communication issue.

Thank you for this explanation! Makes so much more sense now. I'll make sure to use this exact language when I call them. Really appreciate the insider knowledge!

This is why I always recommend claimants choose direct deposit instead of the Money Network card. Direct deposit has its own issues, but at least you're dealing with YOUR bank that has motivation to help you, not this weird third-party Money Network system where nobody takes responsibility. For your current situation though, I'd follow the advice above about asking specifically for the Appeals Follow-Up Unit. They're used to handling these situations. If you've been trying for more than 2 weeks without resolution, you can also contact your state assembly member's office. They have special EDD liaisons who can often resolve these issues quickly.

I wish I'd known about the direct deposit option from the beginning! Will definitely switch once this is resolved. Good tip about contacting my assembly member too - I'll give EDD one more week of calls and then try that route if needed.

Tried using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above when I had a similar issue last month. Got through to EDD in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. Rep immediately knew what to do and fixed my card access within 48 hours. Sometimes paying a little to save a lot of stress is worth it.

did u have to give them ur ssn or anything??? seems sketchy to me

No, they don't ask for your SSN. They just connect the call to EDD. Once you're talking to the actual EDD rep, then you verify your identity with EDD directly like normal.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning! Used some of the specific terms you all suggested (asked for Appeals Follow-Up Unit and mentioned the payment status code). The rep knew exactly what I was talking about and said she would submit the electronic authorization to Money Network today. She said it typically takes 24-48 hours for the card to be reactivated after they send it. Will update again once I can access my funds. Thank you all SO MUCH for the help!

Great news! That sounds exactly right. The 24-48 hour timeframe is accurate in my experience too. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly!

FINAL UPDATE: Card is working!!! Just checked and all my funds are available now. For anyone dealing with this same issue in the future, the key is definitely asking for the Appeals Follow-Up Unit and specifically mentioning they need to send the electronic authorization to Money Network. Took exactly 36 hours after my call for everything to be fixed. Thanks again everyone for your help!
