Money Network card fraud issue - need replacement but getting runaround between EDD and Money Network
I discovered fraudulent charges on my Money Network debit card last week - over $800 gone! I immediately reported it to Money Network's fraud department and they canceled my card. They said EDD would mail me a paper check for my current benefits (which I did receive yesterday), but I still need a replacement card for future payments. This is where I'm completely stuck in a loop. When I call EDD, they tell me I need to contact Money Network for a replacement. When I call Money Network, they say they can't issue a new card without authorization from EDD. I've called both places 3 times now and keep getting transferred around with no resolution! Has anyone dealt with this situation? Who actually handles replacement cards after fraud? I have another certification coming up in 2 weeks and really need this fixed before then.

omg the EXACT same thing happened 2 me last month!!!! some1 took $650 from my card at atms i never went to. Money Network is THE WORST about this stuff. I spent like 6 hrs on hold between them and edd before I finaly got it fixed. u have to call money network but u have to use the specific fraud department number not the regular custmer service. the number should be on ur original card packet.

•Thanks for responding! Do you remember which department at Money Network finally helped you? I've been calling their main customer service line (866-898-2213) and getting nowhere. Did they eventually send you a new card?

This is unfortunately a common issue. The responsibility for replacing your card does fall on Money Network, not EDD. However, there's a specific process you need to follow: 1. Call Money Network's dedicated fraud department at 1-855-282-6161 (not their general customer service) 2. Confirm your identity with them (they'll need your card number, SSN, and possibly other verification) 3. Explicitly request a replacement card due to fraud 4. Ask for a reference/confirmation number for your replacement request 5. Request expedited shipping if you need it urgently (though there may be a fee) Make sure to note the name of the representative you speak with. The new card typically takes 7-10 business days to arrive. In the meantime, you can set up direct deposit for future payments through your UI Online account to avoid relying on the card.

•This is exactly what I needed! I didn't know they had a specific fraud department with a different number. I'll call them right now and follow these steps. Setting up direct deposit is a great idea too - I should have done that from the start. Thank you so much!

After dealing with a similar runaround between EDD and Money Network for weeks, I finally got through to an actual EDD rep who could help by using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connect you directly to EDD agents instead of waiting on hold forever. The rep was able to conference call Money Network with me on the line to authorize my replacement card. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me literally days of frustration.

•is this legit? i'm always nervous about services that say they can get u through to EDD faster... how does it even work??

•Totally get the skepticism! But yes, it's legit. They basically keep calling EDD on your behalf until they get through, then connect you. My friend recommended it after she used it for her disability claim. Saved me from calling 50+ times myself.

Here's what's actually happening: When fraud is reported, Money Network has to receive an authorization code from EDD before issuing a replacement card. This is a security measure that started in 2023 to prevent multiple fraudulent replacement requests. The most efficient solution is: 1. First, log into your UI Online account and select "Contact EDD" > "Payments" > "Debit Card Issues" 2. Specifically mention "fraud replacement authorization needed" in your message 3. Then call Money Network's fraud department at 1-855-282-6161 and tell them you've submitted the replacement request through UI Online 4. Ask them to check for the authorization code after 1-2 business days In the meantime, I strongly recommend setting up direct deposit in your UI Online account so future payments bypass the card system entirely. You'll need your bank's routing number and your account number.

•This makes so much sense now! No wonder I was getting the runaround - each side was waiting for something from the other. I just submitted the request through UI Online like you suggested. I'll call Money Network in two days to follow up. And yes, I'm definitely switching to direct deposit!

The whole Money Network system is a scam if you ask me!! They probably took your money themselves and now they're playing games about replacing the card. I had FOUR fraudulent charges last year and it took them 3 MONTHS to refund my money. THEN they sent the replacement card to my old address even though I updated it. This state and these companies just want to make it impossible to get OUR MONEY!!!

•While I understand your frustration, Money Network isn't directly affiliated with EDD - they're just the contracted financial institution. The fraud is actually happening from external sources. But you're right that their customer service could be much better, especially for something as critical as unemployment benefits.

Just wanted to update everyone - I followed the advice here and FINALLY got this resolved! I called the Money Network fraud department at the specific number provided, and they confirmed they were waiting on authorization from EDD. I then submitted the request through UI Online as suggested. It still took about 4 days, but Money Network called me to confirm they received the authorization and my replacement card is being shipped! They said it will arrive in 7-10 business days. In the meantime, I've set up direct deposit for future payments so I won't have to deal with the card anymore. Thank you all for your help - I was going crazy with the runaround!

•Great news! Glad it worked out. Direct deposit is definitely the way to go - much more reliable than the card system.
