EDD Money Network card hacked - no customer service number and can't access funds
My unemployment benefits were hacked from my Money Network card last week. I reported it immediately and they sent a replacement card, but I can't activate it no matter what I try. I've called EDD 26 times over 3 days and finally got through - they just said they'll start sending paper checks for future payments but they 'don't handle card issues' and couldn't help with accessing the $2,870 that was already on my hacked card! There doesn't seem to be any direct customer service number for Money Network card problems. I'm completely stuck with bills due next week. Has anyone figured out how to actually talk to someone about Money Network card issues? This is ridiculous!

same thing hapenned to me in january... its super frustrating!! theres actually a separate number for the card issues but its buried on their website. try 1-866-692-9374 and just keep hitting 0 when the robot talks. took me like 45 minutes on hold but i finally got someone who helped me transfer my funds

•THANK YOU! I'll try that number right now. Did they ask for any specific information to verify your identity? I want to make sure I have everything ready before calling.

OMG the Money Network card system is a NIGHTMARE!! I had exactly this problem last month and EDD just kept giving me the runaround. They act like they have nothing to do with the card even though it's THEIR system! So frustrating. I ended up having to file a formal complaint with CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) before anything happened. The card people finally called ME after that. Shouldn't have to go that route but it worked.

The Money Network debit card is managed by a third-party provider, not directly by EDD, which explains why EDD staff couldn't help with your card issues. The correct number for Money Network card services is 1-866-692-9374 (open 24/7). You'll need to provide your card number, DOB, last 4 of SSN, and possibly answer security questions. If you continue having issues activating the new card, you can also request that they transfer your balance to your bank account via direct deposit instead. This often resolves these situations more quickly than waiting for a new card to work properly. Documentation of the fraud attempt is important - make sure you get case numbers for every interaction.

•Thank you for the detailed info. I'm going to try calling that number right now. Do you know if there's a way to set up direct deposit for future payments? I don't ever want to deal with these cards again after this nightmare.

Try claimyr.com - it helped me get through to an actual EDD rep when I had benefit payment issues. They have a service that connects you with an EDD representative without the endless calling. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The EDD rep I finally spoke to helped me escalate my card issue to a supervisor who could actually coordinate with Money Network.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything that might help me get this resolved faster.

I had a similar issue with my Money Network card last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 2. When prompted, choose the option for "lost or stolen card" 3. If that doesn't work, ask specifically to speak with their fraud department 4. If they still can't help, file a dispute form - you can find it on the Money Network website under "Cardholder Services" Also, for future reference, I highly recommend setting up direct deposit instead of using the card. It's much more secure and you can do it through your UI Online account under "Payment Preferences."

•This is really helpful, thank you! I'm going to try these steps right now. I didn't realize I could set up direct deposit through UI Online - definitely doing that once I get this sorted out.

Maybe try going to Bank of America? They used to handle the EDD cards before Money Network took over in 2022. My cousin had an issue with his unemployment and went into a physical branch and they helped him.

•Bank of America hasn't handled EDD cards since July 2021 when they ended their contract with California. Money Network (managed by Fiserv) has been the exclusive provider since then, so unfortunately going to a BofA branch won't help with current card issues.

Im dealing with a similar situation right now!! been calling for DAYS and getting nowhere. this whole system is designed to make us give up i swear. one thing that i learned after hours of research is that Money Network has an escalation team but you have to specifically ask for it. dont let them transfer you to regular customer service. also document EVERYTHING - names dates times of all calls. im planning to file a complaint with CFPB too if they dont fix it by friday. good luck!!

•Thanks for the tip about asking for the escalation team specifically! I'll definitely do that. And you're right about documenting everything - I've started keeping a log of all my calls. Please let me know if filing with CFPB works for you!

Just to provide some additional information that might help others: If you're dealing with Money Network card issues, you have several options: 1. Call Money Network: 1-866-692-9374 (24/7) 2. Visit their website: www.moneynetwork.com/edd 3. Report fraud: 1-866-692-9374 (option 1) 4. File a CFPB complaint: www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint For those wanting to switch to direct deposit, you can change this in UI Online under "Payment Preferences." This change will apply to future payments but won't affect funds already on your card. If you suspect your card was compromised, also consider placing a fraud alert with the credit bureaus as an added precaution.
