Money Network customer service EDD card issues - can't reach anyone for help

My EDD debit card from Money Network stopped working yesterday and I can't get through to customer service. The automated system keeps hanging up on me and when I try to call EDD directly about the card issue, I get the usual 'too busy' message after waiting through all the menus. Has anyone successfully reached Money Network customer service for EDD card problems? I need to access my benefits and this is becoming a nightmare.

Josef Tearle

•

Money Network is notorious for terrible customer service. I spent 3 hours on hold last month just to unlock my card. The EDD line won't help with card issues either - they just tell you to call Money Network.

•

That's exactly what happened to me! EDD said it's a Money Network issue but Money Network's system won't let me talk to anyone.

Shelby Bauman

•

Same experience here. The runaround between EDD and Money Network is insane when you just need your card to work.

•

Try calling Money Network early morning around 8am EST. That's 5am our time but sometimes you can get through before their call volume explodes. The number is on the back of your card.

Charity Cohan

•

5am?! I guess I'm setting an alarm. Did that actually work for you?

0 coins

Quinn Herbert

•

Worked twice out of five attempts. Still better odds than calling during normal hours when it's impossible.

If you're desperate and need to reach EDD about your benefits while dealing with the card issue, I used Claimyr last week. Got through to EDD in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of redialing. At least you can sort out your benefit status while fighting with Money Network.

Charity Cohan

•

Never heard of Claimyr. Is that some kind of calling service?

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

Yeah, it's claimyr.com - they dial EDD for you and call you back when they get an agent. Costs money but saved my sanity.

Hazel Garcia

•

I was skeptical about paying for a calling service but honestly it's worth it when you're dealing with both EDD and Money Network problems.

Money Network customer service is outsourced and undertrained. When I finally got through, the rep didn't even know what EDD was. Had to explain the whole California unemployment card system to them.

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

That's ridiculous! They handle millions of EDD cards and don't train their reps on the program?

0 coins

Laila Fury

•

Apparently not. The rep kept trying to transfer me to 'unemployment services' that don't exist at Money Network.

I've had success with the Money Network chat feature on their website, but only for simple issues like checking balance. For card replacement or unlock issues, you really do need to call.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

I tried the chat but it just gave me the same phone number I can't get through to.

0 coins

Yeah the chat is pretty limited. It's basically just automated responses unless you get lucky with timing.

Shelby Bauman

•

The worst part is when your card is frozen and you can't access your benefits. I ended up having to borrow money for groceries while fighting with Money Network for a week.

0 coins

Simon White

•

This is exactly why the EDD card system is broken. We shouldn't have to deal with a third-party bank that doesn't understand unemployment benefits.

0 coins

Shelby Bauman

•

Agreed. Other states handle this way better. California's system is a mess.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

I'm in the same boat right now. Can't buy food because Money Network won't answer their phones.

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

Pro tip: if you can get to EDD directly, ask them to switch you to direct deposit instead of the debit card. It takes a few weeks but eliminates Money Network from the equation entirely.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

That's assuming I can get through to EDD! I've been trying for days just about the card issue.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

That's where Claimyr comes in handy. I got through to EDD and switched to direct deposit in the same call. Way better than dealing with Money Network.

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

Exactly. Once you're on direct deposit, you never have to deal with Money Network again.

Quinn Herbert

•

Money Network's hold music is torture. I've been disconnected after 2+ hour holds multiple times. At least EDD tells you they're too busy - Money Network just wastes your time.

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

The hold music is the least of the problems. I've had them hang up on me right when someone answered.

0 coins

Quinn Herbert

•

That happened to me too! Right when the music stopped and someone picked up, the line went dead.

Simon White

•

I filed a complaint with the CFPB about Money Network's customer service. Probably won't help immediately but maybe if enough people complain they'll improve.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

Good idea. This level of customer service is unacceptable for people who need their benefits to survive.

0 coins

Simon White

•

Exactly. They're handling government benefits, not just regular banking. The standards should be higher.

0 coins

Laila Fury

•

Has anyone tried going to a physical Money Network location? I know they have some partnerships with stores but not sure if they can help with EDD cards.

0 coins

Most of the partner locations can't do much beyond basic transactions. For account issues you still need to call customer service.

0 coins

Laila Fury

•

Figures. So we're back to the impossible phone number.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

Update: I used Claimyr again today to reach EDD and got my direct deposit set up. Cost me $20 but worth every penny to never deal with Money Network again. The EDD rep said lots of people are switching away from the cards.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

Twenty dollars to get through to EDD? That actually sounds reasonable compared to the time I'm wasting.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

Check out their demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 - shows exactly how it works. Way better than manual dialing.

0 coins

Hugo Kass

•

I'm definitely trying this. I've wasted entire days trying to reach both EDD and Money Network.

0 coins

Shelby Bauman

•

The Money Network app is also useless for customer service. Just directs you to call the same number that never answers.

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

At least the app shows your balance when it's working. But yeah, no help for actual problems.

0 coins

Shelby Bauman

•

Even the balance feature glitches half the time. The whole system is poorly designed.

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

I finally got through to Money Network after 47 attempts over three days. The rep fixed my issue in 2 minutes. Two minutes! After three days of trying to reach them.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

47 attempts?! That's insane. What was wrong with your card?

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

It got locked for 'suspicious activity' which was just me buying groceries at three different stores in one day.

0 coins

Quinn Herbert

•

Their fraud detection is overly aggressive. I got locked out for using an ATM in a different zip code.

0 coins

Hugo Kass

•

Just wanted to say thanks for the Claimyr recommendation. Used it this morning and got through to EDD in 12 minutes. Already requested direct deposit so I can ditch this Money Network nightmare.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

Awesome! Glad it worked for you. Direct deposit is so much better than dealing with that card.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

Okay, I'm convinced. Heading to claimyr.com now. This Money Network situation is ridiculous.

0 coins

Money Network's customer service hours are also terrible. They close early on weekends and aren't available when most people can actually call.

0 coins

Simon White

•

Right? Like they don't understand that unemployed people might have job interviews or other appointments during business hours.

0 coins

Exactly. The whole system shows how little they understand their customer base.

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

I've started keeping a log of my Money Network call attempts. 73 calls in two weeks, got through twice. That's a 2.7% success rate. Unacceptable for any business.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

That's a crazy low success rate. How is this company still handling EDD cards?

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

No idea. Probably because they have the government contract locked up and no incentive to improve.

0 coins

Laila Fury

•

The irony is that EDD's phone system is terrible, but at least they tell you they're too busy instead of stringing you along like Money Network does.

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

So true. EDD's 'too busy' message is almost refreshing compared to Money Network's endless hold that goes nowhere.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

That's why services like Claimyr work well for EDD but there's no equivalent for Money Network. At least EDD has predictable patterns.

0 coins

Quinn Herbert

•

Final update: took me 8 days but I finally reached Money Network and got my card issues resolved. Immediately called EDD (using Claimyr because I'm not stupid) and switched to direct deposit. Never using that card again.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

Smart move. I'm doing the same thing as soon as I can get through to EDD.

0 coins

Hugo Kass

•

This whole thread convinced me to skip the Money Network fight and just get direct deposit set up. Thanks everyone!

0 coins

Simon White

•

For anyone still fighting this battle: document everything. Keep records of your call attempts, hold times, and any issues you encounter. File complaints with CFPB, your state representatives, and EDD. This system won't improve unless people make noise about it.

0 coins

Shelby Bauman

•

Good advice. I'm definitely filing a complaint. This is about basic access to benefits people have earned.

0 coins

Josef Tearle

•

Already filed mine. Everyone dealing with this should complain officially, not just vent online.

0 coins

Charity Cohan

•

Thanks everyone for all the advice and support. Going to try Claimyr to reach EDD and get direct deposit set up. Lesson learned: avoid the EDD debit card if at all possible. The Money Network customer service situation is completely unacceptable.

0 coins

Salim Nasir

•

You'll be much happier with direct deposit. Good luck!

0 coins

Hazel Garcia

•

Smart choice. The card might seem convenient but the customer service nightmare isn't worth it.

0 coins

Quinn Herbert

•

Hope it works out for you. Once you're on direct deposit, you'll wonder why you ever dealt with Money Network in the first place.

0 coins

This whole thread has been a lifesaver! I was about to give up after 5 days of trying to reach Money Network. Definitely going to use Claimyr to get through to EDD and switch to direct deposit. It's crazy that we have to pay a third party service just to reach our own state unemployment office, but at this point it's worth every penny to avoid Money Network's customer service black hole.

Same situation here! I've been trying to reach Money Network for 6 days straight with zero success. The automated system either hangs up immediately or puts me on endless hold that goes nowhere. It's absolutely ridiculous that accessing our unemployment benefits depends on a company with such terrible customer service. Definitely going to try Claimyr - paying $20 to actually reach EDD sounds like a bargain compared to the days I've wasted. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck with the direct deposit switch!

I'm in the exact same boat - been trying to reach Money Network for over a week with no luck. The fact that we need our benefits to pay for basic necessities like food and rent, but can't access them because of a broken customer service system, is absolutely infuriating. I'm definitely going to try Claimyr too. It shouldn't cost extra money to reach the agencies that are supposed to help us, but if it works it's better than being stuck in this endless loop. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - at least we know we're not alone in this mess!

Welcome to the Money Network nightmare club! I went through the exact same thing last month - card stopped working, couldn't reach anyone, felt completely helpless. The Claimyr route is definitely the way to go. I paid the $20, got through to EDD in under 30 minutes, and had direct deposit set up by the end of the call. Best money I ever spent. The rep even mentioned they're getting tons of requests to switch away from the Money Network cards because of these exact issues. You're making the right choice - hang in there!
