EDD Money Network card expired - lost replacement before activation - how to request another?
I'm in a bit of a mess with my EDD payments. My original Money Network debit card expired last month, and they did send me a replacement card in the mail. Problem is, I somehow misplaced the new card before I even had a chance to activate it! 🤦♀️ I've looked everywhere - between couch cushions, all my drawers, even checked my car. It's just gone. Since I never activated the replacement, I'm wondering how I request ANOTHER replacement card? Is there a special process for this situation or do I just call the regular Money Network number? Has anyone dealt with this before? I have about $3,800 in benefits sitting on there that I really need access to right now. Thanks in advance for any help!

You'll need to call Money Network directly at 1-866-320-8699 to report the lost replacement card. Make sure to have your personal information ready (SSN, address, etc.) for verification. When you call, be specific that this is a replacement for a replacement card. They'll deactivate the lost card and send you a new one, usually within 7-10 business days. There's typically a $10 fee for replacement cards, but sometimes they waive it depending on the circumstances.

•Thank you so much! I'll call them right away. Do you know if they'll expedite shipping if I tell them it's an emergency situation? $3,800 is basically all my money right now and rent is due next week...

•Oh no, that's terrible! I'll definitely watch my mailbox closely. Did you have to pay the replacement fee when you lost yours?

Just to add some more context - Money Network handles the EDD debit cards, but they're separate from EDD itself. If you call EDD directly, they'll just redirect you to Money Network anyway. One thing I learned from personal experience: when you get the new card, immediately transfer your funds to your personal bank account through direct deposit. Much safer that way, and you avoid these card issues in the future. Also, for your current situation, ask Money Network about expedited shipping. They CAN do it (despite what some reps might say), but there's an additional fee around $15.

•That's really helpful advice about transferring to my bank account. I'll definitely do that once I get the new card. I'm worried about the timeline though - do you know approximately how long expedited shipping takes?

•With expedited shipping, you can usually get it in 3-4 business days instead of 7-10. Definitely worth the extra cost if you're in a tight spot financially. And yes, setting up the bank transfer is super easy once you have the card - just go to the Money Network website and link your bank account.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SUCH A JOKE!!! I had to replace my card TWICE because they kept sending it to my old address even after I updated it online AND on the phone. Then they had the nerve to charge me both times!!! EDD should just do direct deposit like a normal government agency instead of using these predatory card companies that charge fees for everything!!!

•Actually, EDD does offer direct deposit now. You can set it up in your UI Online account under "Payment Methods." It's a relatively new option, but it's available to all claimants. Much more convenient than dealing with the debit cards.

If you're having trouble getting through to Money Network on your own (their customer service is notoriously difficult to reach), I'd recommend using Claimyr to connect with them faster. It basically puts you ahead in the phone queue. I was in a similar situation with a lost card and spent days trying to get through. With Claimyr, I was connected in about 10 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Completely changed my experience with the whole process.

•Thank you for this tip! I just tried calling Money Network directly and got the dreaded "high call volume" message after waiting for 40 minutes. I'll check out that video and give Claimyr a try if I can't get through today.

Something to consider - if you REALLY need the money immediately, you might be able to do a cardless ATM withdrawal if you previously set up a PIN. Call and ask Money Network about this option. You basically get a temporary code to use at certain ATMs. There's usually a daily limit (like $1000) but it could help in an emergency.

•I never knew this was possible! The problem is I never activated this replacement card, so I'm not sure if a PIN was set up. But I'll definitely ask about this option when I call. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had this exact problem in February. When you call Money Network, make absolutely sure they have your current address. The agent I spoke with didn't update my address properly, and my second replacement card got sent to my old address even though I specifically told them my new one. Ended up having to wait almost a month to actually get my money. Double and triple check the delivery address before ending the call!

•That's a nightmare scenario! Thanks for the warning - I'll definitely verify my address multiple times. Did they make you pay for both replacements?

•Yes, I had to pay $10 for each replacement. I tried arguing that the second one wasn't my fault since they sent it to the wrong address, but they wouldn't budge. Just prepare to be charged the fee and consider it part of the process, unfortunately.

Just wanted to follow up - did you manage to get through to Money Network? Were they able to help with the replacement?

•Yes! Finally got through after trying that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. They're sending me a new card with expedited shipping (paid the extra fee). Should have it by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Thanks everyone for all your help and advice!
