EDD Money Network fraud - $1850 stolen through unauthorized bank transfer! How to get money back?

Just discovered that someone stole $1850 from my EDD Money Network card through an unauthorized bank transfer! I called Money Network immediately and they said they have to close my account, issue a new card, and the remaining $16 will come as a paper check. I'm absolutely panicking because rent is due next week. Has anyone dealt with this type of fraud on their EDD card? How long does it take to get the stolen money back? And is there any way to make this process go faster? This is my only source of income right now and I can't believe this happened.

omg this happened to me last month!!! so sorry ur going thru this. money network is THE WORST. took them 2 weeks just to send me a new card and then another 3 weeks for them to put the stolen $ back. they make u fill out all these forms and then they "investigate" which takes forever

2 WEEKS for a new card?? And 3 more for the money?? I can't wait that long! Did calling them repeatedly help at all or did you just have to wait it out?

I work at a legal aid clinic and we see these fraud cases often. Here's what you need to do: 1. File a police report immediately - you'll need the report number 2. Complete Money Network's Dispute Resolution Form (available on their website) 3. Call EDD directly to report the fraud - they can sometimes expedite the process 4. Document everything - dates, times, who you spoke with Federal regulations (Regulation E) require them to provisionally credit your account within 10 business days while they investigate, but only if you file the dispute within 60 days of the statement date showing the fraudulent transaction.

Thank you so much for this detailed information! I didn't know about the 10-day provisional credit requirement. I'll file a police report today and get that form submitted ASAP. Should I mention Regulation E specifically when I talk to them?

This is why i ALWAYS transfer my money out of money network as SOON as it hits the card!!! They have terrible scurity. I transfer everything to my regular bank account immediately. Now im paranoid and check my balance like 3x a day lol.

That's exactly what I'm going to do from now on! I usually leave it on the card because I use it for bills, but never again. Do you use the Money Network app to transfer or the website?

Getting through to EDD is your best bet for expediting this whole process. They can flag your account and sometimes push Money Network to resolve these issues faster. I was in a similar situation last year where $2200 was stolen, and getting EDD involved cut the resolution time almost in half. If you're struggling to reach EDD on your own (and we all know how impossible that can be), I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps connect you with an actual EDD representative instead of facing those endless busy signals. I was skeptical at first but it worked for me - you can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Make sure when you do get through, be very clear that this is causing financial hardship and that you're aware of your rights under Regulation E.

Omg I'm literally dealing with this right now too!! $1230 was stolen from my card last week. Money Network is making me fill out their stupid form and mail it in?! Like we don't have email in 2025??? The rep told me it could take up to 90 DAYS to get my money back after investigation!! I called EDD and they said they can't do anything because it's a Money Network issue. This is beyond frustrating!!!!

They told you 90 days, but that's not legally correct. The law requires them to give you provisional credit within 10 business days if you filed within the 60-day window. Call again and specifically mention Regulation E requirements to the representative. If they still refuse, you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

This is why I hate the EDD payment system so much. They switch to Money Network and act like it's more secure but it's NOT. My cousin had his identity stolen through a skimming device at a gas station and lost $800. My advice is to start transferring your benefits to a proper bank account immediately when they arrive. Money Network cards don't have the same protections as regular bank accounts.

OMG YES!! my cousin had the same thing happen! those card readers at gas stations are sooo easy to tamper with. i never use my edd card at gas pumps anymore!!!

One more tip - once you get your new card, immediately set up account alerts for any transaction through the Money Network mobile app. You'll get a text message for every transaction, which can help you catch fraud immediately if it happens again.

Just downloaded the app and will definitely set this up as soon as I get my new card. Thank you for all your help!

Did you know exactly how the money was stolen? Like did someone get ur pin or was it online? I'm paranoid now about my own card!

I'm not 100% sure, but Money Network said it was an ACH transfer to a bank I've never heard of. I've never shared my card info with anyone, so I'm guessing my data was compromised somehow. I did use my card at a few stores last week, so maybe it was skimmed.

Good news - I checked with a colleague who specializes in EDD fraud cases, and she confirmed that the recent spike in Money Network fraud has prompted them to speed up their resolution process. Many claims are now being resolved in 10-14 days rather than the 30+ days it was taking before. Make sure you emphasize the financial hardship this is causing when you speak with both Money Network and EDD.

That's so good to hear! I filled out all the paperwork today and filed a police report. I'll definitely emphasize the hardship when I talk to them tomorrow. Thanks for checking with your colleague!
