Got NY unemployment message "exhausted all benefits" for August 9-15 claim but only been on UI since May - Will I still get paid?
I just finished certifying for my weekly benefits for August 10-16, 2021 and got a weird message saying I've exhausted all unemployment benefits on my claim. This is super weird because I've only been on unemployment since May (about 3 months) and should have way more time left. After I submitted my weekly certification, I got this confirmation page that says: "Claim Complete Your claim for the week of 8/9/2021-8/15/2021 has been entered for processing." But then right underneath that, there's this alarming message: "Important Information You have exhausted all unemployment benefits on your claim. We encourage you to use the job search resources available on our Career Services resource page. To find out if you are eligible for assistance provided by other New York State programs and services, go to www.mybenefits.ny.gov." It also mentioned something about Direct Deposit options at the bottom, saying "You may choose to have your weekly benefits directly deposited into your checking account. You must have a check handy in order to enter your bank routing and checking account numbers." This is confusing because it says my claim has been entered for processing, but then tells me I've exhausted everything and suggested I look at job search resources. Anyone else seeing this? Should I still expect my payment this week? I really need this money for rent and I'm freaking out a little. Has anyone dealt with this before? I've never missed a weekly certification and haven't had any issues until now. I'm in New York State, if that helps.

Same thing just happened to me last week. Don't panic yet - I still got paid even though I got that message. The system is all messed up right now. Give it 3 business days and check your payment history.

•Wait, really? That gives me some hope! Did you have to do anything special or it just worked itself out?

•Nope, didn't do anything. It was a system glitch I think. Money showed up in my account same as always.

After weeks of getting that same error message and not getting anywhere with the automated phone system, I finally used this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Best money I've spent in months - fixed my issue in one call and got my backpay released. Check them out at claimyr.com or watch this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Is this for real? Sounds too good to be true. How does it work?

•Yeah it's real. They basically call the unemployment office for you and stay on hold, then when an agent picks up they connect you. Saved me like 4 hours of hold time.

•sounds like another scam tbh... they probably just take your money and ghost you 🙄

•Not a scam at all. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 2 weeks. The callback came within 40 mins and I talked to a real agent who fixed everything.

This is probably because your benefit year is ending. Even if you haven't used all your weeks, your claim has a one-year time limit from when you first applied. You'll need to reapply for a new benefit year.

•But I only started claiming in May - that's only 3 months ago, not a year?

•Oh that's weird then. Could be your benefit type auto-switched to a different program? The system does that sometimes without telling you.

Did you get an email about this too or just the message when you certified? Sometimes they send important notices to your online message inbox in the NY unemployment portal. Check there!

Its 100% a glitch in there system. I had the same thing happen 2 weeks ago and my money still came thru. The NY unemployment website is held together with duct tape and prayers lol. Don't stress too much but if you don't get paid in 3 days you gotta call them.

I've been dealing with New York Unemployment for over a year now and here's what you need to know about this error: First, don't panic. This is a known system issue that's been happening since they updated their systems in July. Many people get this message but still receive their payments. If you DON'T receive your payment within 3 business days, you need to contact them. But good luck getting through the regular phone lines - they're completely overwhelmed. Here are your options: 1. Keep calling the main number hundreds of times (not recommended) 2. Email them through the portal (they take 2-3 weeks to respond) 3. Contact your state representative (can sometimes help) 4. Use claimyr.com to get connected to an agent (what worked for me) When I had this issue, I spent days trying to get through before using Claimyr. Got connected to an agent in under an hour who fixed the problem and released my payment. They're not free but considering I was about to miss rent, it was absolutely worth it. Hang in there - the system is frustrating but there are ways to fix this!

•I used claimyr last month when my payments suddenly stopped. Got through to someone in 45 mins and they fixed everything on the spot. 10/10 recommend if you're in a time crunch.

•No problem! That's exactly the situation it's made for. Regular phone lines are basically useless now with wait times.

this happened to me in mid July and I called 53 times before getting through. they told me it was a system-wide issue affecting tons of people and fixed it while I was on the phone. payment came the next day normal

bro the state is trying to get people off unemployment now that things are opening back up. they're hoping you'll just give up and not fight it. DONT LET THEM WIN.

•Conspiracy theories aren't helpful. It's just an outdated system that can't handle the volume.

Check your payment history on the website - not just your bank account. Sometimes the payment will show as "pending" or "released" in the system before it hits your bank.

My neighbor works for NY unemployment (don't tell anyone lol) and said they've been seeing this error a lot lately. It's because they're transitioning some people between different benefit programs in the backend. Most people still get paid but some need manual intervention.

•Do they know when they'll fix it? This is so stressful for everyone.

•She said probably not anytime soon tbh... the IT systems are ancient and they're understaffed

I wonder if this is related to the switchover they did when the federal programs ended? Even though those ended for new claims, people already receiving them were supposed to continue until their benefits ran out.

have u checked if ur actually on a diff benefit type than u think? regular UI is 26 weeks but some other programs are shorter. go to payment history and look at ur "type" column
