NY unemployment says I have 14 days left but benefits ended on the 24th - no payment after certifying

Really stressing out here. My NY unemployment benefits supposedly ended on April 24th, but when I log into my account it still shows I have 14 days of benefits remaining. I certified at midnight this past Sunday like I always do, but nothing was released to my payment method. No pending deposit, nothing at all. I tried calling but can't get through to anyone. The website isn't giving me any error messages or notices. Has anyone experienced this weird situation where the system says you have time left but stops paying anyway? I need this money for rent next week and I'm starting to panic.

The same exact thing hapened to me last month! My benefits were supposed to run until May 12th but they randomly stopped on the 18th of April. When I called they said it was a system error because my benefit year had actually expired even though the online portal showed different info. You HAVE to talk to someone - keep trying different times of day to call.

Did they eventually fix it for you? I've been trying to call for two days straight with no luck getting past the automated system.

Yeah they fixed it but it took almost 3 weeks. I was freaking out the whole time. The problem was the system had my BYE (benefit year end) date wrong in one part of their database but correct in another part.

This is why I dont trust computers to handle important stuff like this. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing in that system 🤦‍♂️

I was in this exact situation and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual human at NY unemployment in about 25 minutes. Talking to an agent got my money released the next day - it was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Is this for real? I'm so tired of these 'magic solutions' that never work. Does it actually get you through to someone?

0 coins

Yes it actually worked for me! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after calling for 4 days straight. It got me a callback with a real agent who fixed my issue that same day.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just another unemployment system 'hack' that ends up being useless?

0 coins

It worked for me - that's all I can say. I was about to lose my apartment if I didn't get my benefits fixed. Best money I've spent in months since it got my payments released.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol... but if it worked for you maybe I'll check it out

Sounds like it could be a system glitch. Sometimes the UI system needs to be manually updated at the end of your benefit period. When did you first apply for benefits? The actual benefit year might have ended (usually 12 months from when you first applied) even though you have days left.

Check if you got an email about monetary determination or benefit recalculation. Sometimes they do a review right before benefits are set to end and it temporarily pauses payments while they decide if you qualify for an extension. DONT STOP CERTIFYING each week even if you're not getting paid!

I haven't gotten any emails at all. Just radio silence. But I'll definitely keep certifying anyway just in case.

Yeah thats smart. Sometimes they back-pay you for those weeks once the issue is resolved. Its happened to me twice where I got a lump sum payment for 3 weeks at once after they fixed whatever the problem was.

Here's what you need to do based on my experience dealing with this exact problem with ny unemployment: 1) First, take screenshots of everything showing the conflicting information (days remaining vs benefit end date). You'll need these later. 2) Try calling first thing in the morning (7:55am) when they open at 8am. This is when your chances are best. 3) If that doesn't work, use Claimyr.com - it's a service that will wait on hold for you and call when they get a rep. I was skeptical but it literally saved me weeks of frustration. 4) While waiting, submit a message through the secure message center in your account specifically mentioning the discrepancy between your days remaining and benefits ending. 5) If still no luck after 3 days, contact your state representative's office. They have special liaisons to unemployment. In my case, there was a flag on my account because the system thought I had reported incorrect information, but it was actually their error. Only a human agent could remove the flag. Don't give up! This is a common glitch in their system that requires manual intervention.

Thank you for such a detailed answer! I'm gonna try calling at 7:55 tomorrow. If that doesn't work I might try that Claimyr thing. Really appreciate the tips.

THIS!!! The state rep thing actually works too. My cousin had to do that after 2 months of getting nowhere.

Their website is such trash. Says one thing but means another. I swear they do this on purpose to avoid paying people.

💯 this. The whole system is designed to be confusing and frustrating so people give up. It's ridiculous how many hoops we gotta jump through.

I was a software developer for 12 years and I can tell you with certainty that the UI system is poorly designed on purpose. It's not an accident that it's so hard to get benefits.

Double check if you have hit your maximum benefit amount (MBA). Sometimes you can have days left but hit the dollar limit. Login and look for both the number of days AND the remaining balance.

It shows I have about $840 left in benefits which should cover the 2 weeks it says I have left. That's why I'm so confused.

lol welcome to the ny unemployment circus 🤡 where the rules are made up and the days don't matter! Seriously tho, their system is ALWAYS broken in some new creative way.

Have you tried checking your spam folder? sometimes they send emails about benefit issues but they get filtered. Also check your messaging center on the UI website - sometimes they leave messages there that don't get emailed to you.

Good idea, just checked both spam and the message center and nothing there unfortunately. It's like they ghosted me 😩

Might be that your BYE date hit and you need to file a new claim. What often happens is the system shows days left from your FIRST claim year even though that claim year is over. you have to reapply when your benefit year ends even if you still see days remaining.

I got through to them after using claimyr.com and the agent told me that sometimes there's a program code issue that causes payments to stop even when you have days left. In my case they had to manually override something in the system. Def worth getting a human on the phone to check your specific situation.

same here! Turns out my account had a fraud flag because someone in another state tried to use my SSN for benefits. Only found out when I finally talked to an actual person.

0 coins

Ok so this might sound weird but try certifying at a different time. I had this issue and apparently certifying exactly at midnight was causing a system error. Try doing it at like 2pm instead. Some computer glitch that the rep told me about.

0 coins

Hmm that's strange but I'll try it. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

0 coins

Yeah ik it sounds weird but the rep told me their system sometimes flags accounts that ALWAYS certify exactly at midnight as potential bots/fraud. Moving my certification time fixed it for me.

Try contacting them on Twitter @NYSLabor with your issue (dont share personal info). Sometimes their social media team can escalate cases.

Dude are we living the same life?? This JUST happened to me. Turned out my BYE date hit even though I had 19 days showing. Called 46 times before getting thru. They had to manually adjust something. Keep trying!!

0 coins

46 times?? 😭 I'm already at like 30 attempts. This is insane.

0 coins

I wish I was exaggerating but I literally kept a tally on a post-it note lol. The system is beyond broken. Hang in there!

0 coins

Stupid question but did you check your payment method info? Sometimes the system randomly deletes direct deposit info or switches back to the debit card option.

0 coins

Not a stupid question at all - I did check that. All my payment info is still correct. It's just not releasing any payment at all.
