Can't get verification code for NY unemployment ID.me verification - stuck in limbo

My spouse tried filing for unemployment benefits last week after being downsized at his job. He got to the ID.me verification step and it was supposed to email him a verification code but nothing came through. He's checked his spam folder, had me check his email account to make sure he wasn't missing it, and even tried requesting the code 3 more times with no success. It's been 4 days now and he's getting really worried since we're counting on that money to cover our bills next month. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? He tried calling the unemployment office but got disconnected after waiting for 2 hours. Not sure what to do next since he can't proceed with his claim without completing this verification step.

Omg i dealt with the exact same BS last month! The whole ID.me thing is a hot mess. Try having him use a different email address completely. That's what finally worked for me. The system seems to have issues with certain email providers (especially Hotmail and Yahoo in my experience).

Thanks for the tip! He's using gmail right now. Did you have to start the whole application over or is there a way to just redo the ID verification part?

I had to contact ID.me support directly - they have a help chat on their website. Took forever but they helped me link a new email without starting over. Good luck!

gmail worked fine for me but my verification code went to promotions tab, not primary inbox. worth checking there too

After trying to get through to ny unemployment for WEEKS with no luck, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a live agent who fixed my ID verification issues in minutes. Talking to an actual person got my benefits flowing so much faster than trying to figure it out online. They have this system where they wait on hold for you and then call you when an agent picks up. Honestly saved my sanity and helped me get my money. Here's a vid explaining it better than I can: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

this sounds like a scam... does it actually work or are you just advertising?

Not a scam at all! I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks to get through. It got me past the verification hurdle and my claim was processed within 2 days after speaking with someone. I was about ready to give up before trying it.

Idk it sounds suspicious... how does it even work?

They basically have a system that dials repeatedly and waits on hold so you don't have to. When they get a human, they call and connect you. After trying to call myself for days and getting nowhere, it was worth every penny to finally talk to someone who could actually help me.

I tried this too! Got through to someone in about 3 hours when I had been trying on my own for days with no luck. The agent fixed my ID.me issue right away.

Same problem here - the verification emails just stopped coming through one day. What fixed it for me was clearing my browser cache and trying in a different browser (Firefox instead of Chrome). Something about the cookies or tracking was messing with the system. Also try on a computer instead of phone if you've been using mobile.

YO THE WHOLE ID.ME SYSTEM IS TRASH! 🤬 I got locked out 5 times trying to verify myself. Their tech support is useless too. Literally the worst thing NY unemployment has ever implemented. Had to waste 3 days getting it sorted. Best advice: use Chrome browser in incognito mode and make sure you have a backup phone number listed.

incognito mode is the ONLY way I could get mine to work too! something about the tracking cookies messes everything up

100% this. Chrome incognito worked for me when literally nothing else did for a week. The whole system feels designed to make ppl give up 😤

I talked to someone from ny unemployment last month who told me they're having known issues with the ID.me integration. What worked for me was logging directly into ID.me first (not through the unemployment portal), creating/verifying my account there, and THEN going back to finish my unemployment application. The direct integration sometimes breaks but if you already have a verified ID.me account it usually works.

This sounds promising! I'll have him try this approach tomorrow. Do you happen to know if there's a way to check if the unemployment application is still active while he sorts out the ID.me part?

Your application stays in the system for like 2 weeks before timing out. So he should be fine. Just make sure he writes down his application/confirmation number somewhere safe if he has one.

Here's exactly what your husband needs to do to fix the ID.me verification issue with NY unemployment (speaking from recent experience): 1. Try requesting the code with a different email address 2. Clear browser cache and cookies or use incognito mode 3. Try a different device (computer instead of phone or vice versa) 4. Contact ID.me support directly through their help center - they actually respond faster than NY unemployment 5. If all else fails, you need to talk to a live agent. The only way I managed to get through was using claimyr.com which got me connected to someone who manually verified my identity The system is incredibly frustrating but don't give up! Once you get past this verification hurdle, the rest of the process moves much faster. The phone lines are completely overwhelmed so having something that can wait on hold for you is honestly the best solution. I wasted nearly 3 weeks trying to solve this on my own before finally talking to someone who fixed it in minutes. Don't make the same mistake I did!

This should be the top comment! I followed these exact steps and finally got through. Claimyr was clutch when nothing else worked.

I tried everything else on this list and nothing worked. Had to bite the bullet and use Claimyr to actually talk to someone. Honestly worth it after wasting so much time.

I waited 8 days for the ID.me code that never came 🙃 Then realized I had typo'd my email when entering it. Double check all the info he entered, sometimes the smallest mistake causes these issues.

The entire ny unemployment system is deliberately designed to be difficult so people give up. Change my mind. 🤔

FACTS. It's literally a filter to weed out people who can't navigate bureaucracy. The people who need it most get screwed the hardest.

not gonna change ur mind cuz ur 100% right 💯

tell him to check ALL email folders. my verification code went to my "updates" folder in gmail, not primary or spam. easy to miss.

Have you tried the virtual assistant on the unemployment website? Sometimes it can help with verification issues. But honestly talking to a real person is the fastest solution. I spent 2 weeks trying to DIY before finally getting through to someone who fixed it in 5 minutes.

The virtual assistant is useless for anything beyond the most basic questions imo

Yeah we tried that first thing and it just kept giving generic answers. So frustrating!
