NY unemployment login issues - Real ID verification not sending email code
My husband has been trying to start his NY unemployment claim but keeps getting redirected to the Real ID verification. The system says it sent him an email with a verification code, but we've checked his inbox, spam folder, everything - no code is coming through. We've tried requesting the code 3 times now over the past 2 days, nothing! He can't move forward with his claim at all. Has anyone else had this problem with the Real ID verification? What are we supposed to do if the system won't send the verification code? Getting really frustrated here...

This is a common issue with the new verification system they implemented in January 2025. A few things to try: 1. Make sure the email address on file is correct in his NY.gov ID account 2. Check ALL email folders including junk/spam (sometimes they end up in weird folders like 'promotions' or 'updates') 3. Try adding noreply@labor.ny.gov to his contacts/safe senders list 4. Wait 30 minutes and try again (their system batches email sends) If none of that works, you'll need to call the tech support line at 888-209-8124. Ask specifically for the ID verification team.

•Thanks for the suggestions. We double-checked his email (it's correct), and we've searched every possible folder. Nothing from labor.ny.gov anywhere. We've waited hours between attempts too. Looks like we'll have to call, but I've heard the phone lines are impossible to get through on...

my friend had this EXACT same problem!!! the emails never came thru no matter what he did. he ended up having to create a whole new email account with gmail (he was using yahoo before) and then had to call to get them to update his email in the system. such a pain!!

•That's SO frustrating! Did it take him forever to get through on the phone? I'm worried we'll be stuck waiting for weeks just to talk to someone.

I had this issue too! It turned out that the email was actually coming from a different address than noreply@labor.ny.gov - it was coming from ny.govidentity@secure.ny.gov which my email provider was automatically filtering. You might want to check if his email has any filtering rules or if adding that address helps.

•Oh! That might be it! I'll have him check for that specific email address in his filters. Thanks for the tip!

When I dealt with this back in February, I discovered that sometimes the verification system has timing issues. What worked for me was logging completely out of NY.gov, clearing my browser cache and cookies, then waiting a full hour before trying again. The system sometimes gets stuck in a loop where it thinks it's sending codes but isn't actually processing the requests properly. If that doesn't work, unfortunately calling is your only option. The verification team is separate from regular unemployment staff.

•We'll try the complete logout and browser clear. At this point we're willing to try anything! I'm just worried about how long this is delaying his actual claim.

•Calling is nearly impossible tho. I tried for 2 weeks straight and could never get through. Always got the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up on you. So frustrating!

Update: We tried logging out completely, clearing cache, and waiting like someone suggested, but it still didn't work. We've been trying to call for two days now but can't get through - just keep getting disconnected after the automated message about high call volume. This is insane! He can't file his claim at all without getting past this verification step. What are people supposed to do??

•I've been exactly where you are and it's maddening. After struggling with the phone lines for days, I finally discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to an agent. They have this system that basically holds your place in line and calls you back when it's your turn. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I got through to an actual person, they were able to fix the verification issue in about 5 minutes. Turns out there was a glitch in how my account was linked to my email. Might be worth checking out if you're still stuck.

Just adding some additional info about this issue based on my experience helping others: Sometimes the Real ID verification has a secondary issue where the email is correctly registered in one part of the system but not synced to the verification subsystem. When you do get through to someone on the phone, make sure they check both the main account email AND the verification system email - they're sometimes stored separately in their database.

•That's helpful to know! I'll make sure we mention that specifically when we get through to someone. Appreciate the detailed info.

am i the only 1 who thinks its totally INSANE that in 2025 they still cant figure out how to make a working website????? like seriously my 10yo nephew could probably build a better system than nysdol!!! its like they WANT to make it impossible to claim benefits we deserve!!

•It's not just you. The system was supposedly "modernized" last year but it seems like they just added more layers of broken verification on top of an already problematic system.

Final update: We finally got this resolved! We used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got through to a person within about 30 minutes. Turns out there was a mismatch between the email in his NY.gov account and the one in the unemployment system. The agent fixed it on the spot and resent the verification code, which came through immediately. He was able to complete his claim right after. What a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

•Great to hear you got it resolved! This is exactly why it's so important to get through to an actual person. For anyone else facing this issue, I'd recommend taking screenshots of the error messages and having all your account information ready when you do get through to an agent. It speeds up the resolution process significantly.

So glad you got this sorted out! I'm actually dealing with a similar issue right now - my verification emails aren't coming through either. I'm going to try that Claimyr service you mentioned. Quick question though - when you called, did they ask for any specific documentation to verify your identity over the phone? I want to make sure I have everything ready when I get through. This whole Real ID verification rollout has been such a mess!

•Hey! When I called, they asked for my husband's SSN, full name, date of birth, and the email address he was trying to use for verification. They also wanted to know his previous employer info just to confirm it was really him. Having all that ready definitely helped speed things up. Good luck with Claimyr - hopefully you'll get through quickly too! The Real ID rollout really has been a nightmare for so many people.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Been trying to get my verification code for 4 days straight and nothing is coming through. I've tried different browsers, cleared my cache, checked every email folder possible, even created a new email address - still nothing. The system keeps saying "code sent" but there's literally nothing in my inbox. This is so incredibly frustrating when you just need to file your claim and get some financial relief. Has anyone had success getting through to the tech support line recently? I'm wondering if the 888-209-8124 number is even working at this point.

•I feel your pain! I went through this exact same nightmare a few weeks ago. The 888-209-8124 number is working, but it's nearly impossible to get through during normal hours. What finally worked for me was calling right at 8am when they open - I had to redial about 20 times but eventually got in the queue. Also, based on what others have shared here, definitely try that Claimyr service that @Yara Khoury mentioned - it seems to be a game changer for actually reaching a human. The verification system is clearly broken for a lot of people, so don t'blame yourself. Hang in there!
