NY unemployment ID.me verification loop - can't file new claim in 2025

I've been trying to file a new NY unemployment claim for over a week now and I'm completely stuck. The system doesn't show any option to file a new claim for me or anyone I know who's trying. When we get to the ID.me verification part, it either doesn't take us to the next step or just keeps refreshing the page endlessly. Has anyone successfully filed a new claim recently? What exactly did you do to get past this verification loop? I've tried different browsers, clearing cache, everything. So frustrated!

same thing happened to me!! the id.me page kept refreshing and i couldnt get past it. tried like 10 times. so annoying

How long did you keep trying before it finally worked? Or are you still stuck too?

I filed a new claim last month and had to work around several glitches. Here's what worked for me: 1. Use Chrome in incognito mode - the ID.me verification seems to work better there 2. Make sure you're starting from the main NY.gov account page, NOT from the unemployment direct link 3. Complete the ID.me process separately before trying to file (go directly to ID.me first) 4. After verification, wait 24 hours before attempting to file your claim 5. When you go back in, click on "Unemployment Services" then look for "File A New Claim" in the left navigation panel The system was updated in January 2025 and there are still some integration issues between the main portal and ID.me.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I'll try the incognito mode approach today. I didn't realize I could complete the ID.me verification separately first - that might be the key. Hopefully this works!

Is anyone else getting the "error code NY-4872" after ID.me verification? I keep getting stuck there and I don't know what it means. The whole system is designed to make us give up I swear. Been trying for 2 weeks now.

Yup got that error too. Called the helpline about 50 times and of course nobody answers. Classic NYSDOL!!! 🤬

The new claim filing process changed in January 2025 when NYSDOL updated their system. There's now a mandatory 48-hour waiting period after ID.me verification before you can file a new claim. This isn't mentioned anywhere on their website, but it's to allow their systems to sync properly. To file a new claim: 1. Complete ID.me verification first (if you get stuck in a refresh loop, try a different device - mobile often works better) 2. Wait 48 hours (crucial step) 3. Log in to your NY.gov account 4. Navigate to My Online Services > Unemployment Insurance 5. Select "File A New Claim" from the dashboard (it should appear after the waiting period) If you still don't see the option after 48 hours, you'll need to contact NYSDOL directly as there may be an issue with your account.

i dunno about that 48 hour thing, i got in right away after verifying but maybe i just got lucky lol

anyone else keep getting kicked out right before submitting the claim? i get all the way to the end then boom, back to login page. so frustrating

That's usually caused by the session timing out. The system only gives you 20 minutes to complete the entire application. I recommend gathering all your information before starting (employer info, dates, etc.) so you can complete it quickly.

After struggling with the ID.me verification loop for days, I found something that worked. The issue is that ID.me and NY.gov aren't properly communicating. I tried calling the NYSDOL helpline for three days straight with no luck - constant busy signals. Finally discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an agent within 30 minutes. They have this service where they hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that shows how it works. The agent explained that many accounts are getting stuck in this verification limbo and they had to manually reset my account status. After that, I was able to file my claim immediately. Saved me so much frustration!

Thank you! This sounds like exactly what I need. I'm going to try the 48-hour waiting period first as someone else suggested, but if that doesn't work, I'll definitely check out Claimyr. Did they ask for any specific information to reset your account?

is this claimyr thing legit? seems sketchy to use a third party service for unemployment stuff

i think the website is just broken on weekends, i couldnt file at all last sunday but tried monday morning and it worked fine

Really? That's good to know. I've only been trying on evenings and weekends because I work during the day. Maybe that's part of my problem! Did you use a computer or phone when it finally worked?

used my laptop, chrome browser. but i think its more about timing than device tbh

UPDATE: I finally got it to work! For anyone else struggling, here's what worked for me: 1. I completed the ID.me verification separately first 2. Waited 48 hours as suggested 3. Logged in using Chrome incognito mode 4. The "File A New Claim" option appeared this time! Thanks everyone for your help. The verification loop was incredibly frustrating, but persistence paid off. Now I just have to wait and see if my claim gets approved.

Great news! Glad it worked out for you. Make sure to certify weekly on time once your claim is approved - the system is much more strict about that in 2025.
