Can't file a new claim on NY unemployment website - ID.me verification keeps refreshing?
Been trying to help a few friends file new claims with NY unemployment this week and running into nothing but walls. When they click to start a new claim, the system either doesn't show the option at all or it takes them to ID.me verification. But here's where it gets really frustrating - after completing the ID.me steps, the page just refreshes or loops back to the beginning instead of moving forward with the claim. One friend tried 8 different times yesterday and just got stuck in an endless cycle. Another one got through ID.me but then the system just dumped them back to the homepage with no claim started. Has anyone actually successfully filed a new claim recently? What browser are you using? Is there some secret trick to make the system actually work?

I had same issues last month. Try using Chrome or Firefox in incognito mode. For me, the system kept glitching in Safari but worked in Chrome. Also clear your cache before starting and dont pause during the process or it times out weird.

After spending literal DAYS trying to file, I found this service called claimyr.com that helped me actually get through to someone on the phone. No catch honestly. They just have some system that stays on hold for you. When an agent picks up, they connect the call to your phone. Saved me hours of hold music and my claim got fixed right away.

Yes! The agent walked me through the whole process. Apparently there's some workarounds they can do on their end for the ID.me loops. They helped reset something on my account.

I had to try SEVENTEEN times before it worked. What fixed it was using Microsoft Edge (i know, weird) and doing it between 6-7am when the system isnt so bogged down. Also dont click back or refresh once u start or it breaks everything. complete garbage system 🤮

Here's what worked for me: - Use a desktop/laptop (NOT phone or tablet) - Use Chrome in incognito mode with all extensions disabled - Try during odd hours (like 5am or 11pm) when traffic is lower - If ID.me keeps looping, try logging into ID.me separately first in another tab - Don't use autofill for ANY fields - If it crashes midway, wait a full 24 hours before trying again (there's a timeout lockout) - After completing ID.me, don't click anything, just wait (it can take 2-3 minutes to process) - If all else fails, you NEED to talk to a human. I used claimyr.com to get a callback and the agent manually pushed my application through The system is a total disaster but persistence is key. Took me almost 3 weeks to finally get my claim submitted properly.

the id.me thing is a NIGHTMARE. mine was stuck for weeks. finally called the tech support line (not the main unemployment line) at 888-209-8124 and pressed options for technical assistance. they fixed something on their end. still took 2 more tries but eventually worked.

Protip: use claimyr.com and skip the hold time completely. They'll call and wait on hold, then connect you when a human picks up.

Omg this exact thing happened to me!!! I literally spent two entire days trying to get through the ID.me nightmare. What finally worked was doing the whole process on my phone instead of computer, but only after I deleted all cookies and browsing history. Also don't save and exit - do the whole thing in one go or it gets corrupted somehow.

id.me is honestly the worst verification system ever built by humans. i work in IT and can tell you its implementation on the ny unemployment site is fundamentally broken. it creates authentication tokens that don't properly transfer back to the NYSDOL system.

Exactly. The OAuth implementation is botched. When it refreshes, it's because the token verification failed but the error handling is terrible.

u might be locked out without knowing it. happened to my sister. call and ask if ur account has a security lock. they dont tell u this on the website but sometimes they automatically lock accounts and u need a human to unlock it. total bs.

FWIW I never got the website to work properly. I ended up having to call the main number and file over the phone. But getting through is IMPOSSIBLE. I used claimyr.com after 2 weeks of failing to reach anyone. worth every penny to finally get my claim filed.

if ur still having issues after trying everything here, email your state representative!!! seriously. i did this after 3 weeks of nonsense and got a call from someone at nysdol the next day who fixed everything manually. they have special contacts.

The ID.me thing kept glitching for me too. Try this - go directly to ID.me first, create/verify your account there completely. THEN go back to unemployment and try again. Worked for me after 5 failed attempts the normal way.

So I've been dealing with unemployment systems across multiple states for my job (HR consultant). NY is by far the worst implementation of ID.me I've seen. Here's what's actually happening: the identity verification process in ID.me works, but the handshake back to NYSDOL fails because their systems don't properly capture the verification token. It's a technical issue they're aware of but haven't prioritized fixing.

Mostly luck with the website. Your best bet is honestly to talk to a rep who can manually verify and override the system. That's what I tell all my clients to do.

dont waste ur time with the website tbh. its been broken for months. just call them directly and file by phone. i know the hold times are ridiculous but use claimyr.com to handle the waiting for you. i did this after wasting 2 weeks on the website nightmare.
