NY unemployment ID.me verification loop - system asking me to verify twice

I'm trying to file a new NY unemployment claim but I'm stuck in some kind of ID.me verification loop. I already completed the ID.me verification when prompted, and it said to file a new claim today. Now when I go back to file the claim, it's asking me to verify through ID.me AGAIN! Has anyone else dealt with this? Is this a glitch in the system or am I doing something wrong? Getting really frustrated because I can't move forward with my claim.

Same thing happened to me last week! The system kept asking for ID.me over and over. SO annoying!!

Did you ever get it to work? I've tried logging out and back in but it keeps asking for verification.

Yeah I just gave up and tried again the next day and for some reason it worked?? The NYSDOL website is such trash honestly

This happens because of browser cache issues or when the ID.me session doesn't properly sync with the NY unemployment portal. Try these steps: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 2. Use incognito/private browsing mode 3. Try a different browser entirely 4. Wait 24 hours for the verification to fully process in their system Also, make sure you're going directly to the NYSDOL website and not clicking through from emails or other sites.

Thank you! I'll try clearing my cache first. Do you know if I'll have to start the claim all over again if I use a different browser?

You shouldn't have to start over. Your information is saved on their server, not your browser. Just log in again and it should take you back to where you left off - hopefully without the verification loop this time.

ugh the ID me thing is the WORST. had to do mine like 5 times before it worked. try calling them maybe??

I've been trying to call but can't get through to anyone. Just endless hold times or automated messages telling me to check the website...

After dealing with this exact issue last month, I finally got through to an actual NYSDOL rep who fixed it on their end. The trick was using Claimyr to connect with an agent - bypassed hours of hold time. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The service connects you with unemployment reps much faster. After explaining my ID.me verification loop problem, the rep manually noted my account and pushed my claim forward. Sometimes these technical glitches can only be fixed by a human agent.

This ID.me verification loop is a known issue with the NY unemployment system in 2025. Their integration with ID.me has been problematic since the January update. What worked for me was: 1. Take screenshots of your completed ID.me verification (including any confirmation pages/emails) 2. Clear ALL browser data (not just cookies, but everything) 3. Wait exactly 4 hours (seems to be a refresh cycle in their system) 4. Log in again using the direct link: https://unemployment.labor.ny.gov If that doesn't work, you might need to contact ID.me support directly, as sometimes the issue is on their end, not NYSDOL's.

Actually, sometimes the issue is that you completed verification but it didn't properly link to your unemployment account. When this happens, you need to go to ID.me directly and check your account settings to make sure NYSDOL is listed as a connected service. If not, you'll need to authorize the connection from the ID.me side.

i had this problem too but it was bc i was using my phone the first time and my laptop the second time. try using the EXACT same device and browser you used for the first verification. worked for me!

That's interesting - I did start on my phone and then switched to my computer. I'll try going back to my phone, thanks!

Just checking back - were you able to resolve this issue by clearing your cache or using the same device?

Clearing the cache didn't work, but I finally got it working! Had to 1) use the same device as my original verification, 2) wait 24 hours, and 3) go directly to the NYSDOL site instead of following email links. Thanks everyone for your help!
