Stuck on ID.me verification for NY unemployment - can't find ID scan section

I've been trying to complete my identity verification through ID.me for my NY unemployment claim since yesterday and I'm completely stuck. I get to the part where they verify my email and phone number, but then I can't figure out how to get to the section where I'm supposed to scan my driver's license or ID card. The system just keeps spinning or taking me back to the main page. Has anyone else had this problem with the ID.me verification for NY unemployment? I've tried on both my phone and laptop and getting nowhere. My benefits are on hold until I complete this verification and I'm starting to panic!

I just went through this last week. The ID scan option doesn't show up until after you've entered your Social Security number. After that, you should see a screen that gives you options to verify your identity - one should say something like 'Upload ID documents' or 'Verify with photo ID'. Are you getting to that part?

I did enter my SSN at the beginning, but never got that screen with options. It just takes me to a page that says 'verifying your information' and then nothing happens. I've waited up to 30 minutes and still nothing. Should I just start over completely?

Make sure you're using the Chrome browser - ID.me has compatibility issues with Safari and sometimes Firefox. Also, try clearing your cache and cookies before starting. When you get to the ID verification part, you should see three options: 1) upload photos of your ID, 2) scan with your webcam, or 3) scan with your mobile device. If you're not seeing those options, there might be a technical issue with your account.

Thank you! I was using Safari on my iPhone. I'll try Chrome on my laptop and clear the cache first. Do I need to create a whole new ID.me account or can I just try logging in again?

You don't need a new account - just log in with the same email/password you already created. I'd recommend doing the entire process on your laptop with Chrome rather than switching between devices, as that can sometimes cause issues with their verification process. If you still have problems after trying Chrome and clearing your cache, you might need to contact ID.me support directly.

had same problem. the button is hidden sometimes. scroll ALL the way down on that page. there might be a blue button that says "verify your identity" that you need to click first before the id scan part shows up

Oh! I never thought to scroll down. I'll check that. The page seemed complete so I didn't even think there could be more options below. Thanks!!

I went through this nightmare last month and wasted DAYS trying to get through. The ID.me process is incredibly buggy. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Use Chrome on a laptop/desktop (not mobile) 2. Clear ALL browser cookies and cache 3. Use incognito/private browsing mode 4. Turn off any VPN if you're using one 5. Make sure your webcam permissions are enabled for the site If all that fails, I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual NYSDOL agent who manually helped me bypass the ID.me verification issue. Seriously saved me weeks of stress. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Thank you so much for these specific steps! I'll try all of these right now. If I still can't get through, I might have to check out that Claimyr service. My rent is due next week and I really need this resolved ASAP.

I tried Claimyr last month when my account got frozen for the same ID.me issues. Got through to someone at NYSDOL in like 30 minutes instead of spending days calling. Worth it if you're desperate.

The ID.me verification process for NY unemployment claims can be tricky. Here's the exact sequence you need to follow: 1. Log in to your ID.me account 2. Select the option to verify for New York Department of Labor 3. Provide your Social Security Number 4. Complete the multi-factor authentication setup 5. On the identity verification page, scroll down completely (this is where many people get stuck) 6. Select "Verify with your ID" or similar option 7. Choose between uploading images or using your camera 8. Follow the instructions to take photos of the front and back of your ID 9. Complete the selfie verification step If at any point you get stuck in a loading loop, try refreshing the page and logging in again. The system should remember which steps you've already completed.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I think I was getting stuck after step 4. I'll follow these exact steps. The detailed process really helps because the ID.me screens don't give clear instructions on what comes next.

UPDATE: I followed the steps from everyone here and FINALLY got it to work! The key things that fixed it for me: 1. Used Chrome instead of Safari 2. Cleared my browser cache completely 3. Made sure to scroll ALL the way down on every page (there was indeed a hidden button!) 4. Turned off my VPN The ID.me verification is now complete and my NY unemployment claim is being processed. Thank you all so much for your help! This forum saved me from so much stress.

Excellent! Glad to hear you got it resolved. It's always the little technical details that cause the biggest headaches with these systems. If you don't mind sharing, which step had the hidden button that you needed to scroll for? That might help others who face the same issue.

It was after entering my SSN and completing the multi-factor authentication. There was a page that looked like it was just loading/processing, but when I scrolled down there was actually a blue button that said "Continue to verification" that wasn't visible on my screen initially. Without scrolling, it just looked like the system was hanging!

For anyone else reading this in the future - I found out that if you're getting stuck in an infinite loading loop on ID.me, sometimes it's because your address doesn't EXACTLY match what they have on file from your credit history. Make sure you use the exact same address format as your ID and credit cards.

This is such an important point! I had the same issue because I used "Street" instead of "St" in my address. The system is incredibly picky about these details.
