EDD CA: Stuck in loop trying to open new unemployment claim online - anyone else?
Anyone else having trouble opening a new unemployment claim online? I keep getting bounced between two pages. One says I need to open a new claim, but when I click the button, it takes me to another page saying I don't need to open a new claim and should continue with my existing one. Then it sends me right back to the first page! It's like a never-ending loop. This is so frustrating. Has anyone managed to actually file a new claim recently?

Have you checked if there's any scheduled maintenance? Sometimes they do updates that mess things up for a while. Might be worth waiting a day or two if that's the case.

•That's a good point. It wouldn't surprise me if updates caused more problems than they fixed.

Ive been dealing with this for months. At this point, I'm convinced they do this on purpose to discourage people from filing. Stay strong, OP!

•Honestly, wouldn't be surprised. The whole system seems designed to be as frustrating as possible 😤

Welcome to EDD hell, my friend. 🔥 I've been stuck in that loop for weeks now. Its like they designed the website to drive us insane

•I feel the same way. It's like they want to make it impossible for anyone to actually file a claim. So frustrating!

lol welcome to the club. EDD's website is like a bad video game where you can't get past the first level 🎮💀

•Seriously! And just when you think you're getting somewhere, it's game over.

I had this exact same problem! Here's what worked for me: 1. Log out of your account completely 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies 3. Restart your computer (I know, classic IT move, but it helps!) 4. Use a different browser than you normally use 5. Log back in and try again If that doesn't work, try accessing the site during off-peak hours, like early morning or late at night. The system seems to get overloaded during the day. Also, make sure you're using the correct link to start a new claim. Sometimes the old links floating around the internet can cause issues. If all else fails, you might have to bite the bullet and call them. I know it sucks, but sometimes talking to a real person is the only way to sort out these glitches. Good luck! Let us know if any of this helps.

•Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll give this a try and report back. Fingers crossed 🤞

•This is solid advice. I'd add one more thing: take screenshots of the error messages. They can be helpful if you end up needing to call

Ugh, I feel you. The EDD website is like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded while riding a unicycle. 🦄🕶️ Have you tried sacrificing a goat to the unemployment gods? Might be more effective than their website tbh

•LOL 😂 Maybe we should start a goat-sacrificing service. Probably more reliable than EDD's tech support!

•Haha, at this point I'm willing to try anything! Where can I find a goat? 😅

Hey OP, any updates? Were you able to get through the loop? Asking for a friend (aka me, I'm the friend, I'm having the same problem) 😭

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes that can help with weird website issues. Also, try using a different browser or incognito mode. Might be worth a shot before you go crazy 😜

•Tried that and still nothing... but I do think it's a good troubleshooting step to try first.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I had the same issue last month. Tried calling them but good luck getting through. Its a total clown show 🤡

Hey, former EDD employee here. This is a known issue with the system. Unfortunately, the only real fix is to call in and have an agent manually override the glitch in your account. I know it sucks, but keep trying to get through on the phone. Best times to call are right when they open or about an hour before they close.

PSA: If anyone's having trouble with the website, remember to document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots, write down error messages, note the time and date of your attempts. If you end up needing to appeal or argue your case, this documentation can be super helpful.

•Great point. Documentation can make all the difference if you need to escalate the issue.

I swear, dealing with EDD is harder than getting tickets to a Taylor Swift concert. At least Ticketmaster's website works... sometimes. 🎟️😩

•Right? It's like they want you to jump through hoops just to get basic support.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? 😂 jk jk... but seriously, sometimes the simplest solutions work. Good luck, OP!

•If only it were that easy! But sometimes it really does work for other tech issues.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken

•Sounds sketchy. How do you know its legit?

•I get the skepticism, but I was desperate and it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Just sharing what helped me out

•Can you give more details about how it works? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

•I tried Claimyr as well. It worked, but I think it's unfortunate that such tools even need to exist. It's telling of the inefficiency in the system.

This happened to me too! I ended up having to use my phone instead of my computer. For some reason, the mobile version of the site worked when the desktop version was glitching out. Might be worth a shot!

•I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tip!

Claimyr seems to be quite useful, especially for those who have spent countless hours trying to get through to EDD. However, it's essential to approach such services with some caution. Always ensure that you're using a reputable service and check for reviews or testimonials from other users. While $20 might seem like a steep price to get what should be a free service, the convenience and time saved can be well worth it for those who have been suffering persistent issues. Additionally, having documentation and a clear record of your attempts to resolve issues can further empower you in claiming your rights.

I've been dealing with this exact same loop for about 3 weeks now! It's absolutely maddening. What worked for me was trying at around 6 AM when the system isn't as overloaded. I also had to disable all my browser extensions and use incognito mode. Even then, it took me about 5 attempts over different days to finally break through the loop. The system is definitely glitchy, but don't give up! Also, if you have an old laptop or different device, try that too - sometimes it's browser-specific issues causing the problem.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! 6 AM sounds like torture but if it works, it works 😅 I've been trying at random times throughout the day with no luck. Did you notice any particular pattern with which browser worked best, or was it just about avoiding the peak hours?

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! Been stuck in this loop for over a week. It's like the website is designed by someone who's never actually had to use it. I've tried different browsers, clearing cache, even tried my neighbor's computer - nothing works. The most frustrating part is that you can see the system recognizes you need to file a new claim, but then it just... doesn't let you? It's like being stuck in unemployment purgatory. Really hoping someone here has found a solution that actually works because I'm running out of patience and options! 😤

•I totally feel your frustration! I've been in that same loop for about 2 weeks now and it's driving me absolutely crazy. The "unemployment purgatory" description is so accurate - it's like the system knows what you need to do but actively prevents you from doing it. Have you tried the early morning approach that @Nia Jackson mentioned? I m'thinking of setting my alarm for 5:30 AM tomorrow to try at 6 AM sharp. At this point I m'willing to sacrifice sleep if it means breaking through this ridiculous loop! Let me know if you find anything that works - we re'all in this together! 🤞
