PA UC ID.me verification nightmare - can't access with new phone number

I'm at my wit's end with this ID.me verification for my husband's PA unemployment claim! He got a new phone number since he last verified, and now the system wants to send a verification code to his OLD number that no longer exists. We've tried every single multi-factor authentication option they offer, but nothing works. The "video chat verification" keeps timing out, the "upload documents" option goes nowhere, and the "security questions" never match his information correctly. There's literally NO customer service contact info anywhere on the ID.me site that actually connects to a human! I've submitted THREE support tickets through their system, and all I get are automated emails saying "your issue has been resolved" - WITHOUT ANY ACTUAL HELP! His claim is on hold until we can verify his identity, and we're getting desperate. Has anyone else dealt with this ID.me phone number change issue with PA UC? Any solutions that actually worked? The rent is due next week and we're panicking.

same here!! the ID.me system is COMPLETE GARBAGE!!! I had to try 8 DIFFERENT TIMES before it finally worked for me. you have to select the option where u upload ur drivers license AND do a video selfie. dont bother with the support tickets they never read them. also the system crashes if ur using chrome, try firefox or safari instead. ugh good luck its so frustrating

Thanks for the tip about trying a different browser! We've been using Chrome the whole time. I'll have him try with Firefox tomorrow. Did you have to deal with a phone number change too or was it something else?

I had this exact issue in January. For phone number changes with ID.me, you need to use their "Recovery" process instead of the regular verification: 1. Go to ID.me's website directly (not through PA UC portal) 2. Click "Sign In" then "Trouble Signing In?" 3. Select "Recovery" and then "Phone Number Change" 4. You'll need to upload his driver's license, social security card, AND a utility bill with his name/address 5. Then complete a video verification call The key is doing this through ID.me directly instead of the PA UC verification link. Once his ID.me account is updated, then go back to the PA UC portal and connect it.

Oh my god THANK YOU for these specific steps! We've been going through the PA UC portal link this whole time and getting nowhere. I'll try this exact process tomorrow morning. Did you have to wait long for the video verification call?

ID me is terrible they dont care we r human beings with real problems they just send robots to talk to us when we need help! my cousin had same probelm but he gave up and just made whole new ID me account with his new phone number and it worked but then he had problems connecting it to his UC account. maybe worth trying???

Making a new ID.me account would cause more problems than it solves. PA unemployment's system checks for duplicate accounts, and it can flag your claim for fraud investigation if they detect multiple ID.me accounts for the same SSN. That could lead to a 6-8 week investigation and benefits hold.

The problem you're experiencing is unfortunately common with ID.me's verification system when phone numbers change. I work with claimants regularly, and there's a specific process to resolve this: 1. You need to complete their trusted referee video call option - this bypasses the phone verification 2. Schedule this during non-peak hours (early morning or late evening) 3. Have ALL documentation ready before starting: driver's license, social security card, birth certificate or passport 4. Be prepared to wait - video calls can have 1-2 hour wait times Alternatively, if you're still having trouble, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with a PA UC representative by phone. They can sometimes manually verify identity or provide alternate verification methods. Their video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) shows how to bypass the constant busy signals and actually reach someone who can help. For ID.me specific issues, having a PA UC agent notate your account can make a huge difference.

Thank you SO much for these detailed steps. We've been trying the referee video call but keep getting disconnected during the wait. I didn't know about doing it during non-peak times though! I'll try early tomorrow morning. And I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service if we still can't get through - anything to actually talk to a real human at this point!

This actually works! My sister had to do this last year when her account got locked. The state rep's office called unemployment directly and fixed it in like 2 days.

UPDATE: We finally got it fixed! Combination of solutions worked. First, we tried the ID.me recovery process directly through their website rather than the UC portal (thank you @profile2!). That got us further but still had issues. Then we used Claimyr this morning to actually speak with a UC rep (after 3 weeks of busy signals). The rep was able to put notes on his account and gave us a direct link to ID.me's trusted referee that actually worked! We waited about 45 minutes for the video call, but the rep manually verified his identity and linked it to his PA UC account. Claim now shows active and payment in progress! THANK YOU everyone for your help - this community saved us!

So glad to hear you got it resolved! The PA UC system makes these things way more complicated than they need to be. Glad you'll be receiving payments soon.

I'm dealing with EXACT same issue but with my wife's account!!! Did anyone else have problems with ID.me refusing to accept upload documents? We keep getting "image quality insufficient" but we've tried 3 different phones and a scanner!!! PA UC is the absolute worst system I've ever encountered in my life.

Try taking pictures in natural daylight (not artificial light), against a dark background, with no glare or shadows. Also make sure the entire document is visible with no fingers or other objects blocking any part. ID.me's system is extremely picky about image quality.

Just went through this nightmare myself last month! The key thing that finally worked for me was clearing ALL browser data (cookies, cache, everything) before starting the ID.me process. Also make sure you're not using any VPN or ad blockers - ID.me's system is super sensitive to that stuff and will just keep failing silently. One more tip - if you're still stuck after trying the recovery process others mentioned, you can also try calling PA UC's technical support line at 1-888-313-7284. They have a separate team that handles ID.me integration issues specifically. The wait times are horrible but they can sometimes reset something on their end that makes the verification go through. Good luck!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been helping family members with PA UC issues - the ID.me phone number change problem is ridiculously common and their system design is just awful for this scenario. A few additional tips that have worked for people I've helped: 1. If the trusted referee video chat keeps timing out, try using a different device entirely (phone vs computer) - sometimes their system has compatibility issues 2. Make sure your husband's name on ALL documents matches EXACTLY how it appears in the PA UC system (including middle initials, hyphens, etc.) 3. If you're still getting nowhere, document everything with screenshots and timestamps - this helps when you eventually get a human on the phone The fact that rent is due and you're dealing with this stress is just heartbreaking. The whole system is broken and puts people in impossible situations. Really hoping the solutions others shared work for you! Keep us posted on how it goes.

This is such valuable advice, especially about the document name matching! I went through something similar with my brother's claim earlier this year and that exact issue held us up for weeks - his driver's license had his middle name spelled out but PA UC had just the initial. Once we got that fixed, everything went smoothly. Also totally agree about documenting everything with screenshots. When we finally got through to someone at PA UC, having all that documentation ready made the call so much more productive. The rep could see exactly what errors we'd been getting and knew immediately how to fix it. It really is heartbreaking how broken this system is when people are already struggling financially. No one should have to jump through this many hoops just to access benefits they're entitled to.
