NY unemployment making me verify with ID.me but can't reach support by phone
So frustrating trying to deal with this ID.me verification process for my unemployment benefits. I got locked out during my first attempt in April because my phone camera wasn't working properly during the selfie verification step. Since then, I've tried calling their support line at least 15 times over the past three weeks but can never get through to an actual person. The automated system just keeps pushing me back to try the online process again, which still doesn't work because my account is flagged. Meanwhile, my claim has been pending for over 8 weeks and I'm running out of savings. Has anyone successfully reached ID.me support by phone? Is there a direct number or specific time to call when wait times are shorter? My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out.

Been there done that. The only number I know is 866-775-4363. Calling early in the morning (like right when they open at 8am) seemed to work better for me. Still had to wait about 30 mins tho.

Thanks for the tip! What time zone is that 8am opening in? I'll try first thing tomorrow.

Eastern time. Good luck! The whole system is messed up tbh

After fighting with ID.me for weeks I finally gave up on calling them and used claimyr.com to get a callback from ny unemployment directly. Got connected to an actual human who was able to override the ID.me issue and process my claim. Best money I've ever spent to get my benefits flowing again! They have a helpful video about it too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but after 9 weeks without benefits I was desperate. The unemployment agent they connected me with fixed everything in one call.

wait how does it work? do they just keep calling for you or something?

Yeah basically they dial in and wait on hold (which was taking me 3-4 hours each attempt), then when a real person picks up, they connect you. Saved me from losing my mind on hold music 🎵

another day, another 'miracle solution'... what makes this any different from all the other unemployment 'hacks' that never work? 🙄

I get the skepticism. All I can say is I was in the exact same boat as OP - couldn't get through to anyone for weeks, benefits on hold, about to miss rent. This actually solved my problem.

I went through this exact nightmare last summer. The trick is to select the option for "technical difficulties" when you call rather than "verification issues" - gets you to a different queue with shorter wait times.

ID.me is THE WORST. I've had better luck contacting my state rep's office and having them intervene. They have special contacts at unemployment that can bypass the ID.me requirement sometimes. Worth a shot.

THIS!!! My state assembly person fixed my issue in 2 days after I spent months getting nowhere

Try their social media instead of phone. I messaged them on Twitter and got a response within a day. Not ideal but definitely faster than calling.

That's a good idea, didn't even think about social media. What's their handle?

@IDmeSupport I think. Just be careful not to share any personal info publicly, only in DMs.

LOL good luck. I've literally never gotten through to an ID.me person by phone. My account was locked for 3 MONTHS and finally I just created a whole new email address and started the verification from scratch. Ridiculous but it worked.

Here's a comprehensive guide to dealing with ID.me based on my experience and research: First, understand that phone support is extremely backed up, so multiple approaches are needed: 1) For the fastest resolution, I highly recommend using claimyr.com to connect with NY unemployment directly. They can often bypass or help with ID.me issues without you needing to deal with ID.me at all. This saved weeks of frustration for me. 2) For ID.me specifically, try these approaches in order: - Use their live chat feature on the website (often faster than phone) - Email support@ID.me with DETAILED information about your issue - If calling, use 866-775-4363 and call Tuesday-Thursday between 8-9am ET - Reach out via Twitter @IDmeSupport 3) Alternative solutions: - Contact your state representative's office for help - File a complaint with the NY Department of Labor The verification process gets stuck most commonly during the selfie step. Make sure you're in a well-lit area, remove glasses, and use a different device if possible. Hang in there - it's frustrating but solvable!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try claimyr.com first since going directly to unemployment sounds like the best option.

The live chat on ID.me never worked for me - just kept saying 'all agents busy' for days

Yeah the live chat is hit or miss. That's why I put the claimyr option first - it's much more reliable for actually getting someone who can help.

are we just gonna ignore the fact that the government is forcing us to use a private company to verify our identity and then we cant even reach them? this whole system is broken af

Have you tried the ID.me video chat verification option? That's what finally worked for me after the selfie thing failed repeatedly. You have to wait in a queue but at least you'll get a live person eventually.

I didn't see that option! Where do you find it?

After you fail the automated verification a few times, there should be a "verify through video chat" button that appears. It's buried in there but its definitely an option.

The video chat wait time was 5 HOURS when I tried it last month fyi. Have something to keep you busy while you wait lol

I feel ur pain man. The ny unemployment system is an absolute joke 🤡 I literally had to use claimyr.com after 2 months of getting nowhere with ID.me and the regular phone lines. Within 2 days of using that service I had an agent sort my claim and money hit my account 3 days later.
