NY unemployment identity verification nightmare - ID.me completely ghosting me for weeks

I got laid off from my warehouse job back in February and applied for unemployment right away. Everything was going fine until mid-March when I got a message saying I needed to verify my identity through ID.me before payments could continue. I took all the pictures they wanted - my license, selfie videos, everything. The website said it was processing but never gave me a confirmation. My payments suddenly stopped and when I check my account it just says 'pending identity verification.' I've emailed ID.me support SEVEN times over the past 3 weeks and haven't gotten a single response back. I tried calling NY unemployment directly but after waiting for 2+ hours they just told me I had to deal with ID.me directly. I can't get through to anyone! My rent is due next week and I'm seriously starting to panic. Has anyone actually managed to get ID.me to respond to emails? Is there a secret phone number or something? This is getting ridiculous!

omg I thought I was the only one going through this nightmare! I've been waiting for almost a month with no response from ID.me. my account just says "verification pending" and my benefits are completely frozen. tried emailing them like 5 times already. 🤬

I had the exact same problem last month! After trying to email for weeks with zero response, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get a callback from an actual human at unemployment. Once I talked to a real person, they were able to manually push through my identity verification and get my payments flowing again. It was the only way I could actually talk to a live agent instead of waiting on hold forever. Totally worth it to finally get my benefits moving again! Check out this video too - shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

is this for real? sounds too good to be true...how did they help with ID.me specifically?

0 coins

Yeah it actually worked. The unemployment agent I talked to was able to see in their system that my identity verification was stuck. They manually noted that I'd provided all the docs and pushed it through on their end.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just another empty promise? i've tried everything already 😩

I was skeptical too but talking to an actual agent was what made the difference. They have access to see what's happening with your claim that the website doesn't show you.

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? just curious

0 coins

The difference is they don't try to solve your problem themselves - they just get you through to an actual unemployment agent who CAN solve it. That's what worked for me.

Here's what worked for me with ID.me - instead of email, try reaching out to them on Twitter. Their social media team seems more responsive than their email support. I DMed them my issue (without sharing any personal info) and they actually got back to me within a day and helped escalate my case.

I'll try this! did u include ur claim number or anything in the DM?

Emma Taylor

•

No! Don't share any personal info in DMs. I just told them I was having trouble with identity verification for NY unemployment and they sent me a link to submit a support ticket through their system that actually got attention.

Thanks for this suggestion. I'll definitely try reaching out on Twitter today. Did you use their main account or is there a specific support handle?

Just their main @IDme account. Good luck!

So the actual problem is that ID.me is completely overwhelmed with verification requests from dozens of state unemployment systems. They prioritize video calls over emails - I waited on their video verification queue for 3 hours but FINALLY got through to a person who verified me instantly. Emails are basically going into a black hole right now. Try the video verification option on their site.

OMG 3 HOURS?!? This system is so broken 😭

0 coins

Yeah it's terrible but at least it eventually worked. Put your phone on speaker and do something else while waiting.

where do you even find the video verification option? i can't find it anywhere on their site

0 coins

It's under "Verify your identity" then click "video call" instead of the standard verification. It's weirdly hidden in their interface.

I had this EXACT issue and after 5 weeks of trying everything, I finally drove to my local NY Dept of Labor office in person. Brought all my documents and they helped me right there. Some problems you just can't solve online or by phone. If you're desperate enough, consider making the trip.

Which office did u go to? worth the drive if it actually works

I went to the one in Albany, but there are offices throughout the state. Check the NYSDOL website for locations. Just bring EVERY document you possibly can.

Listen everybody who's dealing with this ID.me disaster - I've been through the entire NY unemployment system and know every trick in the book after fighting for my benefits for months. Here's what you need to know: First, ID.me is completely backed up and emails are almost never answered. You have three real options: 1. Video verification through ID.me - yes, the wait is 2-4 hours but it DOES work eventually. Have all your documents ready. 2. Contact your state representative's office. Their constituent services can sometimes escalate unemployment issues, including identity verification problems. 3. Get a live agent on the phone from unemployment. They can sometimes override or push through verification issues. The problem is getting someone on the phone. For #3, I highly recommend claimyr.com - it's the only service I've found that consistently gets you a callback from a real unemployment agent. After weeks of failed attempts to reach someone, they got me a callback in under 2 hours. The agent was able to see the notes on my account and push my identity verification through. The system is designed to be frustrating - keep documenting everything, stay persistent, and use every available channel. Don't give up!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice. I'm going to try the video verification first and if that doesn't work I'll check out Claimyr. I'm desperate at this point.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol... but might give it a shot, nothing else is working

yeah I get the skepticism. I felt the same way. But after trying literally everything else, getting an actual agent on the phone was what finally fixed my issue. just sharing what worked for me

the whole system is designed to make us give up. they make it impossible to contact anyone and hope we'll just stop trying to get our benefits. stay strong and keep fighting!!

Am i the only one that got an email back from id.me in like 2 days? Maybe they're prioritizing certain types of issues 🤔

when was this? recently or months ago?

•

Last week actually. But my issue was with password reset, not identity verification, so maybe that's easier for them to handle

ur the chosen one clearly LOL

ny unemployment is sooooo broken. they make us jump through a million hoops just to get what we're entitled to. ID.me is just another barrier they put up hoping people will give up.

Have you tried calling at exactly 8:00am when they open? That's how I finally got through after weeks of trying. Be ready to redial repeatedly but I eventually got a human.

I tried this for TWO WEEKS - calling exactly at 8:00am and never got through 😤

Same. I set alarms and everything. Either busy signal or the automated system just hangs up on you.

Damn that sucks...guess I got lucky then. The system is so broken.

Just a heads up that my cousin had the same issue and we discovered his verification was failing because the address on his ID didn't match the address he used when applying for benefits. Make sure all your info matches EXACTLY.

Paolo Rizzo

•

That's interesting, I did move recently but I updated my address with DMV. I wonder if that's causing the problem? How did your cousin resolve it?

0 coins

Carmen Ruiz

•

He had to speak with someone at unemployment directly who helped him update all the information and resubmit the verification. Once everything matched it went through in a couple days.

i actually got through to id.me by emailing support@id.me AND privacy@id.me AND security@id.me all in the same email. hit em from all angles lol. got a response within 24 hrs.

Going through this exact nightmare right now too! Been stuck in "pending identity verification" for 3 weeks with zero response from ID.me. The fact that they outsourced this critical step to a third party that completely ignores people is insane. I've tried emailing, calling, everything - it's like they don't exist. My benefits are completely frozen and I'm behind on everything. This whole system is designed to wear us down until we give up. Thanks for posting this - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess. Going to try some of these suggestions people shared.
