Need help navigating ID.me for ny unemployment verification - no email received!
I'm confused about this whole ID.me process for my unemployment claim. About three weeks ago, I called NY unemployment because my payments suddenly stopped. Finally got through after trying for days, and the agent told me I need to verify my identity through ID.me even though I never received any email about it. When I asked for more information, he basically just repeated himself and said "just do the ID.me verification" without explaining how or giving me any specific steps. I found the ID.me website on my own and created an account, but when I log in, it just takes me to some shopping page with discounts. There's nothing about verifying my identity for unemployment benefits anywhere! I've clicked through every menu option and can't find anything related to NY unemployment verification. Has anyone else dealt with this? How do I actually complete the identity verification if I didn't get an email with instructions? My benefits have been on hold for almost a month now and I'm getting desperate. Rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out.

Happened to my cousin last month! You need to go to ID.me and specifically look for the "verify your identity for government services" option. It's not obvious at all on their site. Once you find that section, you'll need to select New York and then unemployment benefits. Then you'll upload docs, do a selfie thing, and possibly video chat with someone if the system flags anything. The shopping page is just their default homepage - dig deeper!

After spending 3 weeks trying to reach a human at unemployment, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback with an actual agent within an hour! It was the best money I've ever spent considering I was able to resolve my ID verification issue and got my payments released immediately. They also have a helpful video explaining the process: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Does this actually work? Sounds too good to be true after everything I've been through with ny unemployment.

•Totally worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after weeks of trying. The callback came in about 40 minutes and the agent fixed my issue right away.

•hold up, is this some kind of scam? why would we pay for something that should be free?

•Not a scam at all. They just automate the calling process so you don't have to sit on hold for hours. The unemployment office is still handling your case - Claimyr just gets you connected to them faster.

•I used it too. When you're about to lose your apartment because you can't get through to unemployment, suddenly it makes perfect sense to pay for a service that actually gets results.

I've been through this exact nightmare. You need to go directly to this URL: id.me/nysdol (I think that's it, double check me). That will take you to the right verification portal. The regular ID.me site is useless for unemployment stuff.

The entire system is designed to be confusing so people give up. Call again and keep asking for a supervisor until someone gives you the EXACT link you need. That's what I had to do. Took 4 calls but finally got someone who knew what they were talking about.

Here's what you need to do for NY unemployment ID.me verification: 1. Go directly to https://hosted-pages.id.me/nysdol (not just the regular ID.me site) 2. Create an account if you haven't already (it sounds like you did that part) 3. You'll need to verify with your driver's license or another government ID, plus take a selfie video 4. Be prepared for a possible video chat verification if their system flags anything 5. After completion, it can take 2-3 business days to process If you're still stuck in the shopping portal, try clearing your browser cache or using incognito mode. Also, if you need to speak with someone at unemployment quickly (which I highly recommend), use Claimyr.com - it's a service that navigates the phone system and gets you a callback when an agent is available. I was skeptical but it saved me WEEKS of frustration when I had a similar issue. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but once you get through the verification, your payments should resume with backpay.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this detailed response! I'll try the direct link right now. Did you have to wait long after verification for your payments to start again?

•Mine took about 3 business days after verification before the payments resumed. Everything came through including backpay for the missed weeks. Good luck!

I went through this exact hell in February. If id.me isn't working try reaching out on Twitter to both NY unemployment and ID.me support. Surprisingly they responded faster there than anywhere else!

The NY unemployment system is a complete joke 🤡 They randomly flag accounts for verification without even notifying people. I was in your same position last year - no email, nothing. Just payments stopped. Then they act like YOU did something wrong. Absolute garbage.

•FACTS!!! The system is designed to be broken. They don't want to pay us.

•yep they make us jump through all these hoops hoping we'll just give up and go away

•the whole thing is ridiculous. they need to fix the actual system instead of adding more obstacles.

ID.me is the worst. I spent 6 hours trying to verify last month only to get stuck in their "trusted referee" queue for another 4 hours. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready before you start and use a good phone camera for the pics or they'll reject everything.

•Omg 6 hours?? What documents should I have ready? They didn't tell me anything!

•have your drivers license, social security card, and maybe a utility bill or bank statement with your address. Also they might need you to do a video selfie so make sure your camera works and you're in good lighting!

honestly this is why I ended up using claimyr.com when I needed to talk to unemployment. Tried for 2 weeks to get answers about id.me and got nowhere. Paid for the service and got connected to an agent who walked me through everything. Sometimes u gotta spend money to get money I guess.

Hot tip: call your state assembly person's office!!! I had the same ID.me issue and was getting nowhere. Called my assemblyman, and their office has direct contacts at unemployment. Got resolved in 48 hours after weeks of nothing.

•Wow really? I never thought of that. How do I find my assembly person?

Ellie Simpson
•Just google "NY state assembly person [your zip code]" and it should show you. Their websites usually have a "constituent services" section.

I went through this EXACT same situation last month - no email, payments stopped, and that confusing ID.me website that just shows shopping deals! Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Go directly to https://hosted-pages.id.me/nysdol-unemployment (NOT the regular ID.me site) 2. If you already created an account on the regular site, you can use the same login 3. You'll need your driver's license, social security card, and phone for selfie verification 4. The whole process took me about 30 minutes, but then I had to wait for a video chat with a "trusted referee" which added another hour 5. After completion, it took exactly 4 business days for my payments to resume with full backpay Pro tip: Do it during weekday mornings if possible - the video chat wait times are much shorter then. And make sure you're in good lighting with a solid internet connection or they'll make you start over (learned that the hard way). The system is absolutely terrible at communicating what you need to do, but once you get through the verification, everything goes back to normal. Hang in there!
