ID.me account showing wrong email during EDD claim filing - can't proceed!

I've hit a major roadblock with ID.me while helping my nephew file for unemployment. When he tries to verify his identity for his EDD claim, ID.me is showing an email address he's NEVER used before! It's something like j***@outlook.com, but his real email is completely different. He can't login because he never created that account, so his entire claim is stuck. We submitted a support request through ID.me's help form yesterday and got an automated reply, but no actual help yet. This is beyond frustrating because he can't move forward with his EDD application at all. Does anyone know if there's a direct phone number to reach ID.me support? Or any workaround to fix this email mismatch issue? His rent is due next week and we're getting desperate. Has anyone else experienced this weird email problem?

I had a similar issue last month! The problem is probably that someone else might have used his SSN or other identifying info to create an ID.me account previously. You need to call ID.me directly at 866-775-4363. Their phone support actually exists (unlike EDD), and they helped me resolve my email mismatch in about 20 minutes. Make sure your nephew has his driver's license and social security card ready when he calls. They'll need to verify some info to sort this out. Good luck!

Thank you SO MUCH for this number! We've been going in circles trying to find direct contact info. Will have him call first thing tomorrow morning with his documents ready. Did you have to wait long to speak with someone?

omg this happend to my roomate!!! he had to create totaly new id.me with different email cause the old 1 was linked to sum random acct he never made. EDD is messed up always makin things harder than it needs 2 be!!

Did creating a new ID.me account actually work? I thought you could only have one account tied to your SSN. Did he have any issues when he submitted the new account to EDD?

ya thats what he did! had to call id.me first tho to explain the weird email thing. they deleted the wrong account after he proved it wasnt his. took like 3 days total but it worked

This is a really common issue lately. ID.me has been experiencing database problems where old accounts (sometimes years old from other government services) are getting mixed up with new EDD verification attempts. Their contact info: - Phone: 866-775-4363 (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm EST) - Email: help@id.me - Support form: https://help.id.me/hc/en-us/requests/new Be prepared for LONG wait times on the phone. My sister waited 47 minutes last week.

Thanks for the detailed info! We actually tried the support form already but haven't heard back other than the automated email. Will definitely try calling the number tomorrow morning based on all the feedback here. Those wait times sound painful but still better than not getting the claim processed at all.

Happened to me too last yr!!! The email address was totally random and I NEVER made an account b4. Turns out someone in the VA system made one for me when I applied for benefits years ago and I had NO idea!! Try calling early morning when they first open, waaaaay shorter wait times.

If you're having trouble getting through to ID.me (which is common right now due to high call volumes), I'd recommend using Claimyr to help reach an EDD representative directly. They can often connect you with someone who can manually override the ID.me verification or provide alternate verification methods. I used them last month when I had verification issues and they connected me to EDD in about 12 minutes instead of the hours I was spending trying on my own. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Just mentioning it as another option since the ID.me issues can sometimes take days to resolve, and it sounds like your nephew is in a time crunch with rent.

Thanks for suggesting this. I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. If we don't make progress with ID.me directly, this might be our backup plan. Can EDD reps actually help with ID.me issues? I thought they were separate systems.

0 coins

They are separate systems, but EDD reps have ways to note accounts with ID.me issues. They can sometimes provide a temporary verification bypass or direct you to an alternate verification method. They can't fix the ID.me account itself, but they can sometimes help your claim proceed while the ID.me issue gets sorted out separately.

Former EDD employee here. This is unfortunately becoming more common as ID.me has expanded to work with multiple government agencies. Here's what's likely happening: 1. Your nephew's personal information (name, DOB, SSN) is already connected to an ID.me account, possibly created through another government service (VA, IRS, etc.) 2. Either someone else incorrectly entered his info, or in rare cases, there could be identity theft involved 3. ID.me is seeing his information matches an existing account and is trying to direct him there The good news is ID.me can resolve this by: - Verifying his actual identity - Disconnecting his personal info from the incorrect account - Creating a new account with his correct email Call early in the morning as others suggested. While waiting for resolution, have your nephew continue certifying (if possible) using the paper form option described in his initial claim materials. This prevents payment gaps once the ID issue is resolved.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! This makes a lot of sense. He hasn't been able to submit the initial claim at all because it stops at ID.me verification, so there's nothing to certify for yet. But it's really helpful to understand what's happening. We'll definitely call ID.me first thing in the morning.

wait you used to work at EDD? i have a totally different question thats been driving me crazy - why did they switch from the BOA cards to the stupid money network cards?? the new ones are SO MUCH HARDER to use!!

Just wanted to update everyone - I had the EXACT same problem about 3 weeks ago. ID.me was showing an email I'd never seen before. I called the 866-775-4363 number three different times before I finally got someone helpful. The first two reps gave me conflicting information and didn't solve anything!! The third rep explained that my identity had somehow been linked to an account created by a tax preparer I used in 2023!!! They were able to unlink my SSN from that account and help me create a new one on the spot. My EDD claim was processed within 48 hours after that. SO FRUSTRATING that they don't make this clearer. The whole system is designed to confuse people and make them give up. DON'T GIVE UP!!

Thank you for sharing your experience! This gives me hope. Did you have to provide any specific documentation when they helped create the new account? We'll make sure to have all possible documents ready.

Yes! Have ready: - Driver's license - Social security card - A utility bill or bank statement showing current address - Birth certificate if available (I didn't need this but they said sometimes they ask) Good luck!!! 🍀

This is such a nightmare situation and unfortunately way too common with ID.me lately! I went through something similar with my brother-in-law a few months ago. Here's what worked for us: 1. Call ID.me at 866-775-4363 RIGHT when they open (8am EST) - we called at exactly 8:02am and only waited about 15 minutes vs the hour+ waits later in the day 2. Have your nephew ready with ALL his documents - driver's license, social security card, birth certificate, and any recent utility bills or bank statements 3. Be prepared to explain that he NEVER created an ID.me account and ask them to search for any accounts linked to his SSN from OTHER government services (VA, IRS, state benefits, etc.) 4. If the first rep can't help, politely ask to be transferred to a supervisor or specialist who handles "identity verification conflicts" The whole process took us about 3 calls over 2 days, but once we got the right person, they fixed it in 20 minutes. Don't let them brush you off - this is a known issue on their end and they CAN resolve it. Your nephew's financial situation depends on it! Hang in there and keep us posted on how it goes tomorrow! 💪

This is such a frustrating situation but you're definitely not alone! I just went through this exact same thing with my cousin about 6 weeks ago. The mysterious email address showing up is usually because ID.me creates accounts automatically when you use certain government services, and sometimes the email gets entered incorrectly or defaults to something random. Here's what worked for us: - Call 866-775-4363 at exactly 8:00 AM EST (set an alarm!) - Have your nephew's SSN, driver's license, and birth certificate ready - When you get through, specifically ask them to "search for duplicate accounts under this SSN" - If they say there's nothing they can do, ask to speak to the "identity resolution team" The key is being persistent but polite. It took us 3 calls but the third rep was amazing and fixed everything in under 30 minutes. She explained that tax preparers, previous employers, and even some state agencies create these accounts without people knowing. Also pro tip: while you're waiting for ID.me to get sorted, have your nephew gather ALL his employment documents (W-2s, pay stubs, etc.) so he can file his claim immediately once the ID issue is resolved. The whole process moves much faster when you have everything ready to go! Really hoping this gets resolved quickly for you both! 🤞

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'm writing down all these tips. The 8:00 AM call strategy seems to be the consistent advice from everyone who's had success. I had no idea about tax preparers and employers potentially creating these accounts - that could definitely explain what happened here. We'll have all his documents organized tonight and call first thing tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed steps! 🙏

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! My ID.me is showing some random Gmail address that I've never seen before. It's been 4 days since I submitted a support request and still nothing but automated responses. Reading through all these comments is giving me so much hope though - I had no idea there was actually a phone number that works! I've been trying to figure this out through their useless chat bot for weeks. Quick question for everyone who got this resolved - when you called, did they ask you to verify any information about the mystery email account? Like I'm worried they might ask me questions about an account I literally never created and then think I'm lying when I don't know the answers. Also @Zainab Ibrahim please update us after your nephew calls tomorrow! I'm going to try the 8 AM strategy too based on all the advice here. This whole system is so broken but at least we have each other to figure it out! 😤

@Malik Davis I had the same worry when I called! But they actually DON T'ask you about the mystery account at all - they just verify YOUR identity with documents you actually have. When I explained I never created the account showing that random email, the rep said okay, "let s'verify who you really are and" asked for my SSN, DOB, and driver s'license info. Once they confirmed my identity, they could see the conflict in their system and fixed it without me needing to know anything about the fake account. You re'totally right that this system is broken! But the phone support is actually pretty good once you get through. Definitely try the 8 AM call strategy - it really works! Good luck! 🙏

@Malik Davis I ll'definitely update everyone once my nephew calls tomorrow! I m'feeling so much more confident about this now after reading everyone s'experiences. It sounds like the phone reps are actually helpful once you get through to them, which is such a relief compared to dealing with EDD directly. The 8 AM call strategy seems to be the magic trick that everyone swears by, so we ll'be setting multiple alarms to make sure we don t'miss it. I m'also going to have him write down all the key phrases people mentioned like search "for duplicate accounts under this SSN and" identity "resolution team just" in case the first rep doesn t'know what to do. Thanks for asking me to update - I know how stressful this is when you re'going through it! Hopefully we ll'both have good news to share soon. The fact that so many people here have gotten this resolved gives me hope that it s'actually a pretty standard fix once you reach the right person. 🤞

I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now! My ID.me is showing some random @yahoo.com email that I've never even heard of, and I can't get past the verification step to file my unemployment claim. It's been 5 days since I submitted their online help form and all I got was that useless automated response. Reading through all these comments is such a lifesaver - I had no clue there was actually a working phone number! I've been banging my head against the wall trying to use their terrible chat system. Definitely going to try the 8 AM calling strategy that everyone keeps mentioning. It sounds like persistence is key and you might need to call multiple times to get someone who actually knows how to fix this. This whole ID.me integration with EDD is such a disaster. Like why can't they just verify identity the old way instead of forcing us through this broken third-party system? People are trying to pay rent and buy food, not play detective with mystery email accounts! 😡 Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - gives me hope that this is actually fixable once you reach the right person at ID.me!

@Rajiv Kumar I totally feel your frustration! This whole ID.me mess is affecting so many of us right now. I m'new here but have been following this thread closely because I m'helping my elderly father with the same exact issue - he s'got some random email showing up that he definitely never created. What really struck me from reading everyone s'experiences is how the 8 AM call strategy seems to be the golden ticket. Multiple people here have confirmed it works way better than calling later in the day. I m'also writing down those key phrases like search "for duplicate accounts under this SSN and" identity "resolution team that" @Giovanni Marino and others mentioned. The thing that gives me the most hope is how @Sofia Perez explained that they don t actually quiz'you about the mystery account - they just verify YOUR real identity with documents you actually have. That was my biggest worry too! Really hoping @Zainab Ibrahim posts an update tomorrow after her nephew calls. And good luck with your 8 AM call attempt! Let s all keep each'other posted on how these calls go. This community support is honestly the only thing keeping me sane through this bureaucratic nightmare! 🙏

Just went through this nightmare myself 2 weeks ago! The mystery email thing is SO common right now - mine was showing some random @hotmail.com address I'd never seen in my life. Here's exactly what worked for me: Called 866-775-4363 at 8:01 AM EST (literally had my phone ready at 8:00 AM sharp). Got through in about 12 minutes vs the 2+ hour waits I had trying to call later in the day. The rep was actually super helpful once I explained the situation. She said this happens ALL the time because ID.me accounts get auto-created when you use other government services, and sometimes the emails get entered wrong or default to something random. Key things that helped: - Had my driver's license, SSN card, and a recent utility bill ready - Specifically asked her to "check for any existing accounts linked to my SSN from other government services" - She found an old account that was created when I filed taxes through FreeTaxUSA in 2022! I had NO idea they even used ID.me back then. The whole fix took maybe 20 minutes once I got the right person. She deleted the old account, helped me create a new one with my real email, and I was able to complete my EDD claim the same day. Don't give up! This is 100% fixable, you just need to get through to someone who knows what they're doing. The early morning calls are definitely the way to go! 🙌

This is exactly the kind of success story we needed to hear! Thank you for sharing such specific details about your experience. The FreeTaxUSA connection is really eye-opening - I never would have thought to look there. It makes me wonder how many other services are quietly creating ID.me accounts without people realizing it. Your timeline gives me so much hope too - going from mystery email to completed EDD claim in the same day sounds almost too good to be true after all this stress! The fact that the rep was able to find and delete the problematic account so quickly shows they definitely have the tools to fix this, it's just a matter of reaching someone who knows how to use them. I'm definitely adding "check for accounts from tax filing services" to my list of things to mention when I call. This whole thread has been such a lifesaver for understanding what to expect and how to approach the call strategically. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your success! 🙏

I'm a newcomer here but this thread is incredibly helpful! I've been dealing with this exact same ID.me email issue for my sister who's trying to file her unemployment claim. Seeing so many people share their success stories with the 8 AM calling strategy gives me real hope. What I'm finding most valuable is how everyone is sharing the specific phrases to use like "search for duplicate accounts under this SSN" and "identity resolution team." I had no idea these mystery accounts could come from tax services, previous employers, or other government agencies creating them without our knowledge. For anyone else following this thread - it seems like the key takeaways are: - Call 866-775-4363 at exactly 8 AM EST for shortest wait times - Have all documents ready (license, SSN card, utility bill, birth certificate if available) - Be prepared to call multiple times if the first rep can't help - Ask specifically about accounts linked from other government services Really hoping @Zainab Ibrahim posts an update after her nephew's call tomorrow! This community support is making such a stressful situation feel much more manageable. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences! 🙏

@Emily Sanjay Welcome to the thread! You ve'summarized the key strategies perfectly - it s'so helpful to see all the successful approaches laid out like that. I m'also new to this community but have been following this discussion closely because I m'dealing with a similar ID.me nightmare myself. What really stands out to me is how consistent everyone s'advice is about that 8 AM calling window. It seems like that s'genuinely the secret to getting through without waiting hours. I m'also blown away by how many different sources these mystery accounts can come from - tax services, employers, VA benefits, other state agencies. It s'like ID.me is creating accounts everywhere without people knowing! I m'planning to try calling tomorrow morning too setting (three alarms just to be safe 😅 .)Really hoping we get some good news from @Zainab Ibrahim about how her nephew s call'goes. This thread has turned what felt like an impossible situation into something that actually seems solvable with the right approach. Thank you for organizing all those key points - I m screenshot-ing'your comment to reference during my call! This community support is incredible. 💪

I'm new to this community but dealing with the exact same ID.me nightmare! My account is showing some random @gmail.com address that I've never used, and I've been stuck on the EDD verification step for over a week now. This entire thread has been such a lifesaver - I had no idea there was actually a working phone number for ID.me support! I've been trying to get help through their useless chat system and online forms with zero success. Based on everyone's advice here, I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM sharp calling strategy tomorrow. I'm setting multiple alarms and preparing all my documents tonight (driver's license, SSN card, utility bills, birth certificate). I'm also writing down those key phrases about "duplicate accounts under SSN" and "identity resolution team" that several people mentioned. The most encouraging thing is hearing from people like @QuantumQuasar and @Oliver Weber who got their issues resolved so quickly once they reached the right rep. It's incredible how these mystery accounts can come from tax services, employers, or other government agencies without us even knowing! Really hoping @Zainab Ibrahim posts an update about her nephew's call. This community support is honestly the only thing keeping me hopeful that this mess is actually fixable. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences - it makes such a stressful situation feel much less overwhelming! 🙏

@Ezra Collins Welcome to the thread and I m'so sorry you re'going through this too! It s'honestly mind-blowing how widespread this ID.me issue has become. I m'also new here but have been following everyone s'advice closely since I m'helping my mom with the exact same problem. What gives me the most confidence is seeing how many people have actually gotten this resolved once they reached the right person at ID.me. The consistency of the 8 AM calling strategy across multiple success stories really seems to be the key. I love that you re'preparing everything tonight - that seems to be what separates the successful calls from the frustrating ones. The thing that really opened my eyes was learning about all these stealth "ID.me" accounts getting created by tax services, employers, and other agencies. Who knew FreeTaxUSA was creating ID.me accounts back in 2022?! It makes me want to audit every government service I ve'ever used. I m'planning to call tomorrow morning too, so hopefully we ll'both have good news to share. Really hoping @Zainab Ibrahim updates us on how her nephew s call'goes - this thread has become like a support group for all of us dealing with this bureaucratic mess! 😅 Good luck with your 8 AM call tomorrow! Let s keep'each other posted on how it goes! 🤞

I'm new here but this thread has been absolutely incredible to find! I've been struggling with this exact ID.me issue for the past two weeks - my account is showing some mysterious @outlook.com email that I've never seen before, and I can't get past the identity verification to file my unemployment claim. Reading through everyone's experiences has given me so much hope and practical advice. I had no idea there was actually a working phone number for ID.me! I've been going in circles with their chat bot and online support forms getting nowhere. I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM calling strategy that so many people have had success with. Already setting my alarm and gathering all my documents (driver's license, SSN card, recent bank statement, birth certificate). I'm also writing down those key phrases like "search for duplicate accounts under this SSN" and "identity resolution team" that multiple people mentioned. What's really eye-opening is learning how these mystery accounts can come from tax preparation services, previous employers, or other government agencies creating ID.me accounts without us knowing. I used TurboTax a few years ago and now I'm wondering if that's where this phantom account came from! Thank you everyone for sharing such detailed experiences and advice. This community support is honestly keeping me sane through this frustrating process. Really hoping to join the success stories soon! 🤞 @Zainab Ibrahim please keep us posted on how your nephew's call goes tomorrow - we're all rooting for you both!
