ID.me email change nightmare - can't verify EDD identity after 2 weeks

I'm totally desperate trying to change my email address on my ID.me account so I can verify for EDD! My old email provider shut down unexpectedly, so I had to create a completely new email address. Now I can't log into ID.me at all to complete my identity verification for unemployment benefits. I submitted a support ticket to ID.me TWO WEEKS AGO and haven't heard a single thing back! My claim is just sitting there unprocessed because I can't complete this verification step. Has anyone successfully changed their email with ID.me? Did you have to wait forever too? I'm worried my claim will be disqualified if I don't get this fixed soon.

3 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! My rent is due next week. Did you try calling them instead of just waiting for the ticket response?

Unfortunately, ID.me and EDD are separate systems that don't communicate well. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call ID.me support directly at 866-775-4363. Their ticket system is backlogged but phone support can help faster. 2. Explain that you need to change your email for EDD verification purposes specifically. 3. If they can't help immediately, ask them to expedite your ticket and note that it's affecting your unemployment benefits. 4. While waiting, contact EDD to explain the situation. They might be able to note your account or provide an alternative verification method. The email change must be done through ID.me directly - EDD can't fix this for you.

Thank you SO much for the detailed steps! I didn't realize they had a phone number - it's not obvious on their website at all. I'll call them first thing tomorrow morning.

I've been through this exact nightmare with ID.me! After struggling for days trying to reach someone through their ticket system, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an actual EDD agent who documented my ID.me issues and put a note on my claim while I waited for ID.me to respond. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD agent was able to place my claim on hold rather than disqualifying me while I sorted out the ID.me email change. Saved my sanity!

Yes, it's legit. They basically navigate EDD's phone system for you and call you back when they have an agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration.

ID.me is complete garbage!!!! They let me change my PHONE number in 5 minutes but changing email takes WEEKS?? Makes NO sense. I ended up having to create a whole new account and redo everything. Took pics of my license EIGHT TIMES before their stupid system accepted it. Then had to do video verification with a "trusted referee" which took 3 HOURS waiting in queue. EDD needs to find a better verification system!!!!

While ID.me does have frustrating aspects, it's important to clarify that creating a new account can sometimes cause more problems. Since your biometric data and documents are already associated with your old account, a new account might trigger a fraud alert in their system. This could potentially delay your verification even further. The official recommendation is to work through their support channels for email changes rather than creating duplicate accounts.

have u tried using the "forgot password" option but with ur new email? sometimes that works to change the login email if u still remember ur password. worth a try before waiting for support tickets

I tried that immediately, but it sends the reset link to the original email that I can't access anymore. It's a catch-22 situation.

To properly resolve your issue with changing your email in ID.me: 1. Call ID.me support at 866-775-4363 during their business hours (8am-8pm EST Monday-Friday) 2. Select the option for account recovery assistance 3. Explain that you need an email change for EDD verification purposes 4. Be prepared to verify your identity through alternative means: - They may ask for your driver's license number - The last 4 digits of your SSN - Other personal information to confirm your identity Also, while you're working through this, I recommend contacting EDD directly to explain the situation. They can sometimes place a temporary hold on identity verification requirements while you resolve technical issues with ID.me. This prevents your claim from being automatically disqualified for verification timeout.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! Do you know if there's a specific department at EDD I should ask for when explaining this situation? I've heard horror stories about being transferred between departments.

Ask specifically for the Identity Verification department or a Tier 2 specialist. Regular claim representatives may not have the authority to place holds for ID.me issues. Be sure to get a confirmation number for any call where they promise to note your account.

I actually went through this exact situation last month after switching email providers! What worked for me was: 1. I called ID.me directly (866-775-4363) 2. Had to wait about 45 minutes to speak with someone 3. They verified my identity using my driver's license and last 4 of SSN 4. They manually updated my email address within the call 5. I received confirmation to my new email immediately 6. Was able to log in and complete my EDD verification within minutes Don't rely on tickets - phone is definitely the way to go! And make sure to explain it's holding up your unemployment benefits so they understand the urgency.

Thank you! This gives me hope! I'm calling first thing tomorrow morning. Did you have to do the whole verification process again after they changed your email?

Nope! Once they changed my email, I just logged in with the new email (and my existing password) and everything was still there - all my previous verifications were intact. It was surprisingly easy once I actually got someone on the phone.

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! After calling ID.me this morning (waited on hold for 53 minutes!), they were able to verify my identity over the phone and change my email address right away. I immediately got access to my account, finished the EDD verification, and my claim status changed from pending to paid within hours! For anyone else with this problem - definitely CALL don't rely on support tickets. And make sure to tell them it's for EDD unemployment verification so they understand it's urgent. Thank you all for your help!
