ID.me contact number needed - can't update info to access EDD account
Has anyone had luck contacting ID.me directly? My phone number changed since I last verified with them and now I can't get into my EDD account at all. The system keeps sending verification codes to my old number. I've been trying to find a contact number or email for ID.me support but their website is so confusing! My rent is due next week and I really need to certify for benefits. Any help would be appreciated!

Dealing with ID.me is THE WORST!! I had similar issues and spent 3 days trying to get it fixed. Try 866-775-4363. It's their customer support line but prepare to wait foreverrrr.

•Thank you!!! I'll try calling them right now. Did you actually get through to someone who could help?

I had this exact problem in February. You need to go to help.id.me and submit a support ticket. In the dropdown menu, select 'Account Recovery.' Make sure to explain your situation clearly and include your EDD Customer Account Number (not your SSN). They usually respond within 48 hours via email. Alternatively, you can try their video chat verification option, which bypasses the phone verification in some cases. Look for the 'Verify with an agent' option when you're trying to log in.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try the support ticket route first since I'm not comfortable doing video verification. Do you remember if they asked for any specific documents to prove identity?

•They'll ask for a government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport works best) and might have you take a selfie for comparison. If you go the support ticket route, they might ask you to verify some information about your old phone number as well.

•Thanks! I just called that number but they said they can't help with ID.me issues. They told me I have to go through ID.me directly. So frustrating!

Just went through this nightmare last month! The ID.me phone support is basically useless - I waited 2+ hours and got disconnected twice. What finally worked was creating a brand new ID.me account with my current phone number, then contacting EDD to link it to my claim. It's a mess but it worked.

•THIS IS INCORRECT INFORMATION! You CANNOT create multiple ID.me accounts - it will flag you for fraud and make your problems 10x worse! DO NOT DO THIS! I work with EDD claims all day long and this is the worst advice I've seen. You need to recover your existing account, not create a new one.

•Um ok sorry? It worked for me but whatever. Just trying to help.

•Thanks for the warning. I definitely don't want to get flagged for fraud. I'll stick with trying to recover my account.

If you're having trouble reaching ID.me support through conventional methods, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They can connect you with EDD agents quickly who can then help coordinate with ID.me to resolve your verification issues. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km I was stuck in a similar situation and couldn't get through to anyone. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes who was able to escalate my ID.me issue and get it resolved within days instead of weeks.

•Thanks for this suggestion! I'll check out that video. Did the EDD agent help you bypass the ID.me verification entirely or did they just help escalate your case?

•They couldn't bypass ID.me (that's required for security reasons), but they put a note in my account and contacted ID.me directly through their internal channels. It fast-tracked the whole process.

ID.me is the WORST THING EVER added to the unemployment system!! 😡😡 I got locked out for 3 MONTHS last year because of their stupid verification process! The government needs to stop using these terrible third-party services that don't even have proper customer support!!!! I ended up having to drive TWO HOURS to an actual EDD office to get someone to help me!

•Wait, you can go to an EDD office in person? I thought they were all closed to the public? Where did you find an open office?

•Some offices reopened in 2024 but with limited services. There's one in Sacramento and another in San Bernardino that I know of. But you need an appointment which can take WEEKS to get!

did u try resetting ur password? sometimes that works 2

•I tried that already but it still wants to send a verification code to my old phone number. That's the whole problem - I can't get past that step because I don't have access to that number anymore. 😩

UPDATE: Just checked the ID.me website and they've changed their support process. The current recommended contact method is through their help portal at help.id.me/hc/en-us/requests/new They no longer prominently list their phone number because they're prioritizing online support tickets. Make sure to select 'Account Recovery' as your issue type, and be sure to mention it's for EDD unemployment access. Hope this helps!

•Yes! They finally fixed it! It took 3 days but I got an email from ID.me support with a special link to verify my identity without needing my old phone. I had to upload my driver's license and do a video call, but it's working now. Definitely use the support ticket method that was suggested above.
