Identity verification holding up ESD payments for 7+ weeks - anyone know processing timeframes?
I'm at my wits end with this identity verification situation! My husband filed a new unemployment claim back in January and ESD immediately flagged it for ID verification. He uploaded his driver's license, SSN card, and a utility bill through their secure portal the same day they requested it. It's now been SEVEN weeks and his claim is still showing as "pending" with no payments issued. We've called probably 40+ times but can't get through to anyone who can help. Has anyone else dealt with this identity verification delay recently? How long did it take before your payments started coming through? We're burning through savings and getting really concerned about paying our mortgage next month. Does contacting our state representative help speed things up?

Identity verification is taking FOREVER right now. My claim was flagged in December and it took 9 weeks to resolve. One thing I learned - make sure all the documents he uploaded are clear and legible. If even one is blurry or cut off, they won't tell you, they'll just leave it pending. Try uploading them again through the secure message portal with a note saying "resending for clarity." Also check that his name appears exactly the same on all documents (middle initial, Jr./Sr., etc).

•Thank you! I'll have him reupload everything tonight just to be safe. Did you eventually get backpay for all those weeks you were waiting? We're really worried about the bills piling up.

OMG ID verification is the WORST!! like why does it take them so long?? my boyfriend had the same problem last year and we were about ready to live in our car before they finally approved him. try sending messages through eServices every few days, thats what we did and i think it helped bump his claim up in the queue

•We've sent probably 5-6 messages through eServices but haven't gotten any real response, just automated confirmations. How many weeks did it take for your boyfriend's claim to go through?

•it took like 8 weeks total, which is ridiculous!! but keep sending messages, we sent one like every 3 days

The ID verification process is taking 6-10 weeks for most claims right now due to the new fraud prevention measures ESD implemented. Make sure your husband continues filing his weekly claims during this waiting period - he'll receive backpay for all weeks claimed once the ID verification is complete. If you need to escalate, I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent quickly. I was in the same boat and wasted hours on hold, but Claimyr got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I spoke with was able to expedite my ID verification after I explained our financial hardship.

•Thank you so much for this suggestion! Yes, he's been religiously filing every week even though nothing is happening. I'm going to look into Claimyr right now - at this point I'd try anything to get this resolved faster.

•is claimyr legit? sounds kinda sketch to me. has anyone else used it successfully?

•Yes, it's legitimate. It basically keeps dialing ESD for you and notifies you when it gets through. I was skeptical too, but it worked for me when I needed to speak to someone about my adjudication issue.

The ESD system is DELIBERATELY DESIGNED to be frustrating!!! They make the process as difficult as possible hoping people will just give up and not collect benefits they're entitled to. I waited TEN WEEKS for ID verification last year, and only got movement when I contacted my state representative. Their office has direct contacts at ESD that can push claims through faster. Don't just sit around waiting - EMAIL YOUR STATE REP TODAY with your claim ID number and situation!!!

•That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of contacting our state rep. Did you just email through their website? How quickly did they respond to you?

•I called my rep's office AND emailed them. Got a response in 2 days and my claim was approved 5 days after that. They have special channels to escalate with ESD that regular people don't have access to. The whole system is corrupt but at least the reps can help.

•We check his account daily and there are no new alerts or messages. He definitely sent his driver's license, social security card, and a utility bill with our address on it. I'm hoping that's enough?

I went through the exact same situation a few months ago, and what finally worked was a combination of approaches: 1. Continue filing weekly claims (sounds like you're doing this) 2. Upload documents again through eServices with a clear subject line 3. Contact my state representative (took about a week for response) 4. Call ESD directly (I used Claimyr to get through after trying for weeks) The ID verification took 8 weeks total for me, but I eventually received all backpay. Make sure your husband answers "yes" to being available for work each week, and is documenting his three job search activities weekly. Some people miss out on benefits because they stop doing the required job search activities during the waiting period.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! Yes, he's definitely keeping up with his job search activities and documenting everything. We'll try all of these approaches. It's just so stressful not knowing when this will be resolved.

•I completely understand the stress. One more thing - when you do get through to ESD (either directly or via your state rep), emphasize any financial hardship you're experiencing. In my case, I mentioned we were behind on utilities and rent, and they flagged my case for expedited review.

My cousin had identity verification and his took like 3 weeks so I think there must be something else going on with your husbands claim maybe? Did he work in multiple states or something that would make it more complicated?

•Interesting - was that recently? He's only worked in Washington, but he did change jobs about 6 months before filing. Maybe that's causing some verification issues?

•Oh yeah that was last year so maybe things are worse now idk. My cousin only had one job so maybe that's why his was faster

Just an update to my earlier comment - I checked with a friend who works at WorkSource, and she said the current average for ID verification is 8-10 weeks. However, if you're experiencing severe financial hardship (potential eviction, utilities being shut off, inability to afford medication), you can request an expedited review. You'll need to call and specifically use the phrase "financial hardship expedite request" and be prepared to provide details about your situation. Keep detailed records of every interaction (date, time, agent name if possible).

•This is extremely helpful information, thank you! We're definitely approaching hardship territory as we're about to miss some bill payments. I'll try to get through on the phone and specifically request the expedited review.
