ESD ID verification stuck in pending for 2 weeks - what else can I do?

I'm at my wits end with this identity verification issue! I submitted my driver's license photo and Social Security card copy through the secure portal exactly 2 weeks ago, but my account is STILL showing 'pending ID verification.' I've been trying to call ESD every morning but can never get through - just endless busy signals or the automatic disconnect after waiting. My bills are starting to pile up, and I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or if this is normal processing time. Has anyone else had their ID verification stuck in pending for this long? What else can I try to speed this up? I'm worried my claim will be disqualified if this drags on too long.

totally normal unfortunately... mine was stuck for like 3.5 weeks before it finally cleared. the system is broken, they're probably dealing with a backlog of fraud cases

3.5 weeks?! I can't wait that long! Did you do anything special to get it unstuck, or did it just randomly clear one day?

Identity verification can sometimes take 2-4 weeks, especially if there's any discrepancy between your documents and their records. A couple things you should try: 1. Make sure your documents are clearly legible - sometimes poor image quality can cause delays 2. Check if your address on your ID matches what's in the ESD system 3. Try uploading the documents again through the secure message system (not the portal) 4. Call the Identity Verification specific number: 800-318-6022 (different from the main ESD line) Also, keep filing your weekly claims even while this is getting sorted out! You'll get backpaid once your identity is verified.

Thank you for the detailed response! I didn't realize there was a separate number for ID verification issues. I'll try that tomorrow morning. And yes, I'm still filing my weekly claims just in case.

I went through this exact nightmare back in January. The trick is getting an actual human on the phone who can manually review your documents and clear the hold. After weeks of calling the main number with no luck, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected with an ESD agent in about 25 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got an agent on the line, they were able to review my ID verification on the spot and clear it that same day. My payments started processing the next business day.

is that service legit? sounds like something that could be a scam tbh

It's definitely legit - they don't ask for any sensitive info like SSN or anything. They just help you bypass the phone queue. Worked for me and saved my sanity after two weeks of constant busy signals.

ESD'S IDENTITY VERIFICATION IS TOTAL GARBAGE!!!! I had to wait 6 WEEKS last year because they claimed my REAL ID license wasn't valid identification!!! Then they demanded a birth certificate which I sent immediately and they STILL took another 2 weeks to clear it!!! The whole system is designed to deny people benefits by making it impossible to communicate with them!!! YOU NEED TO CALL THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY UNTIL SOMEONE ANSWERS!!! It's the ONLY way to get anything done!!!

Six weeks?? That's absolutely ridiculous! I'm already struggling after just two weeks of no income. I'm definitely calling daily now.

Are you sure you sent in exactly what they asked for? Sometimes they need specific documents for identity verification vs. identity resolution. Identity verification usually just needs your photo ID, but identity resolution requires additional proof like utility bills or birth certificates. Maybe check your secure messages to see if they specifically requested something else?

That's a good point - I just checked again and the notice specifically asked for "government-issued photo ID and proof of Social Security number." I sent my driver's license and SS card, so I think I provided exactly what they asked for. No additional messages since then.

my freind had this same problem but it was becuase his name on ss card dint match his drivers license exactly (he had a middle initial on one but full middle name on other) might wanna check if theres any tiny discrepancy like that?

I checked and my name is exactly the same on both documents. I did recently move though - I wonder if that's causing an issue since my current address doesn't match what's on my license.

That could definitely be it! Address mismatches often trigger additional verification. You might want to submit a change of address form along with proof of your current address (utility bill, lease, etc.) through the secure message portal.

I went thru a similar situation with my ID verification last year. It was so stressful! What helped me was actually contacting my state representative's office. They have liaisons who can reach out to ESD directly on your behalf and often get things resolved much faster than you can on your own. Just Google "[your county] state representative" and you should find their contact info. Most have forms specifically for helping with unemployment issues.

I hadn't thought of that approach! I'll definitely look into contacting my representative if I can't get through by phone this week. Thanks for the suggestion!

when i had this problem i just kept uploading my documents every few days and eventually it cleared. i think sometimes they just miss seeing them the first time because of how many they're processing

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME TOO!!! Their system randomly "loses" documents and they NEVER tell you!!! So frustrating!!!

Just checking in - any updates? Were you able to get your ID verification cleared?

Yes, finally! I used the Claimyr service that someone recommended above to get through to ESD yesterday. The agent I spoke with said my documents were fine, but there was a system flag because I recently moved. She cleared it manually while I was on the phone, and this morning my account shows as verified! Payments are being processed now. Such a relief!
