Identity verification stuck in pending for a month with ESD despite multiple submissions
I'm seriously getting worried about my unemployment benefits. I've been waiting for almost a MONTH with my identity verification showing as 'pending' in the ESD system. I've already verified my identity once before (back in December) and when they asked again in February, I immediately submitted all the documents again through their secure portal. The status just stays stuck on pending with no movement whatsoever! My weekly claims are piling up as 'pending' too because of this verification issue, and I'm starting to burn through my savings. Has anyone else had their verification get stuck in limbo like this recently? Did you do anything special to get ESD to finally process it? I've tried calling but can never get through to an actual person.

•6 WEEKS??? I can't wait that long! Did your cousin ever get through to anyone on the phone? I've tried calling 15+ times and either get disconnected or told to call back later.

This is unfortunately a common issue with ESD right now. Their verification department is taking 4-7 weeks to process documents, even for people who've verified before. Make sure you've uploaded the correct document types (government ID, Social Security card, etc.). If you've submitted everything correctly, you mostly need to wait, but there are a few things you can try: 1. Send a secure message through your eServices account specifically mentioning how long you've been waiting 2. Contact your state representative - they can sometimes help expedite 3. Check if any alerts or action items appear in your account that might be causing additional delays One important thing - keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for verification to process. You'll get paid retroactively once verified.

•Thank you for the detailed response! I've submitted my passport, SS card, and a utility bill - all clear scans. I'll definitely try sending another secure message. Do you know if there's a specific subject line I should use to get attention? And I have been keeping up with my weekly claims thankfully.

the same thing happened to me!!! it took them 5 weeks to verify my identity even though I'd been on unemployment before with the same documents. so frustrating. i couldn't pay rent on time because of their delay.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about - rent is due next week and I don't know how I'll manage if this keeps dragging on. Did they eventually approve you without you doing anything special?

I had this exact issue in January. After weeks of not getting through on the phone, I finally used Claimyr to connect with an ESD agent (claimyr.com). They have this service that basically waits on hold for you and calls when an agent is available. The video demo shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I actually got to speak with someone, they found that my verification documents were sitting in their system but hadn't been assigned to a reviewer. The agent was able to expedite the review, and my verification was processed within 48 hours after that call. Definitely worth trying since you've already been waiting a month.

•does this actually work? i've heard about it but seems sketchy to pay for something that should be free

•Yes, it definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too, but after weeks of not getting through, I was desperate. They don't handle your claim or anything - they just connect you directly with an actual ESD agent so you can explain your situation.

NOBODY at ESD knows what they're doing anymore! I'm so TIRED of this broken system. I had my verification rejected TWICE even though I sent exactly what they asked for!!! Had to go through an entire appeal process just to get someone with a brain to look at my documents. The whole department is completely dysfunctional and they don't care that we can't pay our bills while they take their sweet time with these "verifications." The worst part is you can't even get a straight answer about how long it should take!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! Did you eventually get approved? I'm starting to think I might be in for a fight even though my documents are perfectly legitimate.

I was stuck in verification limbo for about 5 weeks last month. What finally worked for me was contacting my state representative's office. I explained my situation, and their constituent services person reached out to their ESD liaison. My verification was processed within 3 days after that contact. Google "[your county] state representative" to find contact info for yours. They really can help move things along when the system is stuck.

•That's a great suggestion I hadn't thought of! I'll look up my representative right away. Did you contact them by email or phone?

•I initially sent an email explaining the situation with my claim ID number and contact info, then they called me back the next day to get more details. Make sure to clearly explain how long you've been waiting and any financial hardship it's causing.

Have you checked if there are any other pending issues on your claim besides the identity verification? Sometimes there can be multiple issues causing delays. Log into eServices and look at the "Notices/Letters" section and also check for any alerts showing in red at the top of your dashboard. I found out I had an able & available issue that was holding up my claim in addition to the verification problem.

•Just double-checked and there's nothing else showing up in my notices or alerts. Just the verification pending status. That's partly why it's so frustrating - there doesn't seem to be any other issue they're investigating.

One more thing I should mention - ESD sometimes has different levels of verification. The basic ID verification and then a more thorough verification if they have specific concerns about your claim. If you're in the second category, it typically takes longer. Did you receive any specific notices about why they needed verification again after you'd already done it before?

•No, that's the weird part. I got a general notice saying "verification required" but no explanation of why they needed it again. The message just said to submit ID documents through their secure portal, which I did right away. No indication of any specific concerns.

UPDATE: I took several of the suggestions here and finally got movement on my claim! I contacted my state representative yesterday morning, and by this afternoon I got an email from ESD saying my identity verification was complete. All my pending weekly claims now show as processing for payment! Thanks everyone for the advice - especially about contacting my representative, that really seemed to make the difference.
