Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. totally agree. the system acts like everyone who loses their job is perfectly healthy and can immediately jump into any work. medical situations are way more common than they want to admit

You should definitely start keeping that log immediately. NYS Department of Labor can request your job search records at any time, and not having them could result in an overpayment determination. Better late than never!

The unemployment system is such BS. They make it so complicated to figure out if you qualify and then take forever to make decisions. Even if you have good reasons they'll probably find some way to deny you initially just to save money.

File your claim ASAP regardless. Even if there's a misconduct issue, you can appeal if denied. The worst thing is waiting and missing out on potential benefits while you're looking for work.
