I had issues reaching NYS Department of Labor when my employer contested my claim and I needed to check the status. Regular phone lines were always busy. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful when I could actually talk to someone about my adjudication.
The whole system is designed to make it hard for workers! Employers know they can slow down the process by contesting legitimate claims. Even if you eventually win, they've made you suffer for weeks without income. It's disgusting how they protect businesses over people who just lost their jobs.
just look at the bureau of labor statistics website they have all this stuff broken down by state and demographics
I actually had to research this for my thesis last year and what I found was really eye-opening. The NYS Department of Labor data shows persistent gaps, but you also need to consider underemployment and labor force participation rates, not just unemployment. Some groups might have lower unemployment but also lower overall participation in the workforce. Also make sure you're comparing apples to apples - age-adjusted rates give you a clearer picture.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A MESS! They make us jump through hoops every week and then can't even pay us on time. I've been waiting since Monday for my payment and getting different answers every time I call. This is people's RENT money we're talking about!
Same boat here, certified Sunday and still waiting. At least yours shows payment processed - mine just says 'claim under review' which is making me really nervous.
The NYS Department of Labor phone system is absolutely terrible if you need to talk to someone about your claim. I spent WEEKS trying to get through when my claim got stuck in adjudication. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me so much frustration.

The system is so frustrating!! I'm dealing with something similar and every time I call NYS Department of Labor I get a different answer. One person told me I couldn't get both, another said I could but with deductions, and a third person said it depends on when I filed... I don't know what to believe anymore!

•I understand the frustration, but the rules are actually pretty clear once you understand them. The confusion often comes from the different types of retirement income - pensions, 401k withdrawals, Social Security, etc. all have different rules for how they affect unemployment benefits.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you do take early retirement, make sure you understand all the implications beyond just unemployment. Early retirement can affect your Social Security benefits later, your health insurance coverage, and other things. It might be worth talking to a financial advisor before making any big decisions.
