NYS Department of Labor claim pending for 2 weeks - when will my unemployment be approved?
Filed my UI claim two weeks ago and it's still showing as pending on my.ny.gov. I lost my job at a restaurant in Brooklyn when they cut staff last month. I've been certifying weekly but haven't received any payments yet. The status just says 'claim under review' with no other details. I really need to know when this will get approved because I have rent due next week. Has anyone else experienced delays like this? What's the typical timeframe for NYS Department of Labor to approve a new claim?

The standard processing time for new unemployment claims is usually 2-3 weeks, but it can take longer if there are any issues that need verification. Since you're at the 2-week mark, you're still within normal timeframes. Make sure you keep certifying your weekly claims even while it's pending - those payments will be backdated once approved.

•Thanks, that's reassuring. I was worried I did something wrong on the application. Should I be concerned that it says 'under review' instead of something more specific?

mine took almost 4 weeks to get approved back in october, just keep filing your weekly claims and eventually it will all come through at once

•Four weeks?? That seems really long. Did they ever tell you why it took so long?

If you're having trouble getting through to check on your claim status, I had good luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach NYS Department of Labor agents directly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call and getting busy signals.

•Is that legit? I'm skeptical of paying for something like that when it should be free to contact them directly.

•I was skeptical too but when you can't get through for days it becomes worth it. They actually connect you to real NYS Department of Labor staff, not some third party.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 3 WEEKS for mine to be approved and every time I call I get hung up on. They owe me over $1200 in back payments and I'm about to lose my apartment. This is ridiculous that they can just hold our money hostage like this.

•I feel you, it's so stressful when you're counting on that money. Hang in there.

Same boat here, filed 10 days ago and still nothing. At least we're not alone in this I guess.
