How long after applying for unemployment NYS Department of Labor do you get approved - timeline questions

Filed my UI claim with NYS Department of Labor about 10 days ago and still haven't heard anything back about approval. My claim status just says 'under review' when I check my.ny.gov. I lost my job at a manufacturing plant in Rochester and need to know what's normal for approval times. I've been doing the weekly claims like they told me but getting anxious about when the benefits will actually start. Has anyone else had to wait this long? Should I be worried something's wrong with my application?

The typical approval timeline for NYS Department of Labor is usually 2-3 weeks from when you first file, but it can vary depending on your specific situation. Since you're still within that window, I wouldn't panic yet. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for approval - that's really important. If there were any issues with your application they would have contacted you by now or shown pending issues in your online account.

Thanks that's reassuring. I was worried because my friend got approved in like 5 days but sounds like that was just lucky timing.

took me almost 4 weeks to get approved last year and that was considered normal. just keep filing those weekly claims or you'll lose those weeks

If you're getting really anxious about the status and can't get through on the phone, I had good luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made it way easier than trying to call during peak hours and getting busy signals.

Never heard of that before but anything's better than spending hours on hold. NYS Department of Labor phone system is absolutely terrible.

The 'under review' status is completely normal and doesn't mean there's a problem. NYS Department of Labor has to verify your employment history and earnings before they can approve benefits. Manufacturing jobs usually have straightforward verification so yours should process smoothly. Just be patient and keep doing your weekly certifications.
