How long does it take for a unemployment claim to process through NYS Department of Labor?

I submitted my unemployment application on my.ny.gov about 10 days ago and I'm still waiting to hear anything back from NYS Department of Labor. My account just shows 'claim filed' but no updates on when I might get approved or if there are any issues. I lost my job at a warehouse in Rochester and really need to know what's normal for processing times. Should I be worried that it's taking this long? I've been checking every day but nothing changes.

Normal processing time for initial unemployment claims is typically 2-3 weeks if there are no complications. Since you're at 10 days, you're still within the normal window. NYS Department of Labor has to verify your employment history and wages, which takes time. If your claim goes into adjudication for any reason, it can take 4-6 weeks or longer.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. How will I know if it goes into adjudication? Will they send me something?

I filed my claim 3 weeks ago and it's STILL pending. NYS Department of Labor is completely overwhelmed and their processing times are all over the place. Some people get approved in a week, others wait 2 months. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Same here, been waiting 5 weeks now. Every time I call I get hung up on after waiting an hour.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting disconnected.

the processing time depends on alot of factors like if you quit or got fired, if theres any issues with your wages, stuff like that. mine took 2 weeks but my friend's took over a month because they had to verify something with her employer

I was laid off due to company downsizing so hopefully that helps speed things up. No issues on my end that I know of.

Just be patient and keep checking your my.ny.gov account daily. The system will update when there's news. In the meantime, make sure you're doing your job search activities because you'll need to start filing weekly claims once approved.
