How long do unemployment benefits take to process with NYS Department of Labor?
I submitted my initial unemployment claim through my.ny.gov about 10 days ago and I'm still waiting to hear anything back from NYS Department of Labor. My status just says 'claim filed' but nothing else. I lost my job at a retail store when they downsized and I really need to know when I can expect my first payment. Does anyone know the typical processing time for new claims? I've been doing my weekly certifications but I'm getting nervous about how long this is taking.

mine took almost 3 weeks last year but that was because they had to verify my employment history with my previous employer

Just want to add that you should definitely keep doing your weekly certifications even while waiting! I made the mistake of stopping when my claim was taking forever and it created a gap in my benefits that was a nightmare to fix.
