How long does it take NYS Department of Labor unemployment to process my claim?
Filed my unemployment claim about 8 days ago and still haven't heard anything back from NYS Department of Labor. My account just says 'claim pending review' but doesn't give me any timeline. I'm starting to stress because I need to know if I'm approved so I can plan my finances. Has anyone else experienced delays like this? What's the normal processing time for new claims?

Standard processing time for NYS Department of Labor is typically 2-3 weeks for straightforward claims, but it can take longer if your claim needs adjudication. Since you're at 8 days, you're still within normal timeframes. Check your my.ny.gov account regularly for any requests for additional information.

•Thanks! Should I be worried that it says 'pending review' instead of something else? I don't see any outstanding items in my account.

If your claim needs verification of employment history or wages, it can take 4-6 weeks. NYS Department of Labor has to contact your previous employers to confirm information. The 'pending review' status usually means they're still processing your initial eligibility determination.

•Wait, they contact employers? I thought they just used the wage records they already have. What if my last employer doesn't respond quickly?

•They use both existing wage records and may contact employers directly for verification. If an employer doesn't respond within the timeframe, NYS Department of Labor will make a determination based on available information.

The whole system is a joke honestly. Been waiting 6 weeks for them to fix an error THEY made on my claim. Every time I call I get a different answer about processing times. Don't hold your breath for any consistency.

•I feel you on the phone calls. Spent hours on hold just to get disconnected. Someone told me about claimyr.com that helps you actually reach an agent - watched their demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI and it seems legit. Might be worth trying if you need to check on your specific delay.

OMG same situation here! Filed 10 days ago and just sitting here refreshing my account every few hours like it's going to magically update. The waiting is the worst part because you don't know if you did something wrong or if it's just normal processing time.

•The waiting is definitely stressful, but checking constantly won't speed it up. NYS Department of Labor typically updates accounts once daily, usually in the evening. Focus on completing your weekly claims if those become available.
