Where is the nearest unemployment office near me in NY - need help finding local NYS Department of Labor location
I need to find the closest NYS Department of Labor unemployment office to where I live but I'm having trouble figuring out which location would be best. I filed my claim online last week but now I'm getting some kind of verification issue that says I need to bring documents in person. The my.ny.gov website has a list of offices but it doesn't really tell me which one handles my ZIP code area. Does anyone know how to find out which unemployment office I'm supposed to go to? I live in the Albany area but there seem to be multiple locations and I don't want to waste time going to the wrong one.

You can call the main NYS Department of Labor number and they'll tell you which office serves your area based on your address. Each office has specific ZIP codes they handle for in-person appointments. For Albany area you're probably looking at either the Albany Career Center on Central Avenue or the Troy office depending on exactly where you are. Make sure to call ahead because some offices require appointments for document verification.

•Thanks! Do you know if they're open on Saturdays? I work during the week and it would be really hard to get time off.

Most NYS Department of Labor offices are only open Monday through Friday during regular business hours unfortunately. You might be able to handle some verification issues online though - have you tried uploading documents through your my.ny.gov account instead of going in person?

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to find your local office, I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me connect with an actual agent when I was having similar issues. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of busy signals and waiting on hold just to get basic information about which office I needed to visit.

•Never heard of that but might be worth trying if I keep getting disconnected when I call.

honestly the whole system is such a mess, half the time the local offices don't even know what the online system is doing anyway

You can also try looking up 'NYS Department of Labor career centers' on Google Maps and it should show you the ones closest to your location with hours and contact info. That's how I found mine when I had to go in for an appeal hearing last year.
